IMPORTANT AUTHOR’S NOTE: *Cringes*I just know you all are going to hate me for the pairings that my friend wanted...But she is my close friend and she is moving. She asked me to continue this story with a certain pairing...So I’m sorry for those who wanted a Kurama/Tohru...I wanted it too...*pouts*...But my friends moving and well...internet is cheaper then phone so...I will do her request...But perhaps in the future I will do a Kurama/Tohru. I’m sorry for those of you who wanted that pairing but she either told me to kill Tohru or pair her with...Hiei, Older Shippo or Kyo. You see she doesn’t really like Tohru (mumbles: that’s an understatement) As for Kagome she wants me to pair her in a three way, Hatori/Kagome/ and either one of her ‘servants’ or the Reikai Tantei she has a preference for Kurama or Yusuke. But there will be great affection between Kagome and Bankotsu, Jakotsu, Sango, Miroku, Jigoku, Kita, Shinya, and Riko. So you can only vote for either one of Kagome’s servants with her as the third of the pairing and for Tohru one of the three listed I’m very sorry about this. But...It was at her request...I couldn’t refuse the puppy dog eyes...there deadly.

Chapter 8: Comfort

Everyone was silent. There were no words for the things they had witnessed, heard. She described it with as little detail as possible so that they could understand it. Kagome had kept some other things out of it that were to horrible for words. That couldn’t possibly be expressed. The people in the room had no idea what to say or how to comfort her. Riko stood quietly and left the room. He followed Kagome’s scent to the gardens and found her standing there silently. ‘She’s waiting for rejection.’ Riko thought in silence.

He didn’t reject her. He understood, now, why she never told any of them her past. She didn’t want them to pity her, to reject her. He wrapped his slender, muscled arms around her. Kagome relaxed instantly in the tender embrace. His purring helped soothe her rattled nerves. He gently nuzzled behind her ear, growling his acceptance. Kagome turned in his arms blue meeting amber and she kissed the side of his mouth licking at his cheek as his eyes closed in bliss.

Back in the meeting room the rest of Kagome’s ‘servants’ left the room to find their leader, the one person that accepted them, that saved them. Kurama turned his sharp emerald eyes on Koenma once they were gone. The other’s in the room could clearly hear the distinct anger in his voice as he spoke.

“Did you know about this Koenma?” Kurama practically hissed, trading his normally calm, collected for the angry one he was now displaying. Kitsune’s were naturally protective of each other and it didn’t help that Youko and Shuichi were attracted to the young woman.

“No...If I’d known, If I’d known I would’ve never demanded she tell us.” Koenma said regretting what he had made Kagome do.

“Why did you make her do that....Why did you make her relive her past? It was painful enough not knowing everything or even the full view of it but I know that wasn’t all that happened to her. She was censoring it even then. Why did you make her hurt even more?” Tohru asked tears forming in her big brown eyes as she stared at Koenma who averted his eyes in shame.

Before Koenma could even think about defending himself a shadow loomed over him. He cowered in fear in front of one of the most powerful demons in Makai. There in back or rather now in front of Koenma stood a tall young man with bright orange hair in a low ponytail, with sharp green eyes and a snarl on his face. His tail flicked in aggravation.

“I told you to leave Kagome’s past alone! I warned you not to cross me.” The young fox demon snarled, very overprotective of the younger vixen. Shizen grabbed his brother’s arms before he could attack the very much terrified Koenma.

“Calm down, Shippo...You knew didn’t you?” Shizen soothed and asked.

Shippo looked up warily at his older brother before nodding his consent. “I knew...I was there. I saw, I watched Shizen as they tortured her, as the did things to her that I can’t even put into words. And I was helpless to do anything. I saw as she suffered and not once did she cry out for them to stop, not once did she beg for mercy she took it all in stride. Not once did she cry. “ Shippo said his eyes glittering with supressed tears. “She’s kept it all locked inside. She was so careful not to show anyone what she was really feeling and no one noticed. Not one.” Shippo said before shooting the ruler or Reikai a very threatening glare.

“Don’t you dare come near her again you sonovabitch, don’t you dare.” were his last threatening words as he raced out of the room towards the gardens where he knew she would be. She saved him from those people, traded herself in his place. To keep him safe. He respected her, adored her...and some part of him loved her. She was after all the sister he never had.

When he got there he was not too surprised at the sight that greeted him. Sango sat in Miroku’s lap parallel to Kagome who lay across Riko, Jigoku and Shinya’s lap wit h Jakotsu resting his head in her lap and Bankotsu running his fingers through Kagome’s loose hair. Kagome drew much comfort in touch and affection like many Kitsunes did. She took after Kitsune’s more then anything else, not that she didn’t have the abilities and characteristics of the other species in which she was.

“Kagome...” the word escaped his mouth softly. Kagome raised her head at her name. She looked up into Shippo’s forest green eyes and gave him her traditional smirk. It was the smirk she had on her face when she had a particularly good fight and kill, or when she was especially amused. He kneeled in front of her and kissed her forehead as she growled soothingly to him.

Kagome sighed knowing the others would arrive soon. She really did not want to have to deal with them at the moment and transported them all to her room except Sango and Miroku who wanted to have some private time. She rolled her eyes and the rest of them stretched out on Kagome’s bed snuggling around her, touching her in some way. Kagome snuggled into Jigoku’s body with Riko behind her and the others piled upon her legs forming a blanket of human bodies. She fell asleep almost instantly in the safety of their bodies. For once in her life time she was able to sleep.

When the other’s found her in her room 5 hours later thanks to Shizen finally telling them where she was. He couldn’t stand there annoying pleading. It irritated him. He knew that she’d probably want privacy. However when the entered the room no one expected what they came upon. Jakotsu, Bankotsu, Riko, Shinya, Jigoku and Kita all lay in a puppy pile or something like one. There was no Kagome however.

“Damnit! Where is she?” Yusuke growled.

“May one inquire as to why your in my chambers?” Kagome asked stepping out of the shadows, eyes and face not betraying anything. The other’s looked down guiltily.

“I’m sorry I made you do that.” Koenma said softly.

“Do not pity me Koenma. I do not need nor want your pity.” She said softly.

“I know.” Kagome’s eyes narrowed.

“Then what are you sorry for?”

“I’m sorry for making you relive it.” He said his voice surprisingly soft towards the young women.

Kagome quirked a brow and glanced at Riko who was awake and growling standing next to her. “Hm...It was nothing.” Kagome said.

“If you don’t mind...I’d like some privacy.” Kagome said before turning away to talk to Riko. They spoke so softly that not even the demons in the room could hear. Riko nuzzled her and she gently nipped at his chin before glaring at the people still in her doorway. They left. Immediately. No one dared risk her wrath.

Tohru was almost in tears out in the hallway, it wasn’t fair. It just wasn’t fair, she felt horrible now for feeling even the least bit jealous of her sister, after all she’d been through so much, sacrificed so much. Yuki laid a gentle caring hand on her shoulder. She looked up at him through teary brown eyes, understanding violet eyes soothed her, after all he was a friend. She cried softly, for her sisters tortured soul, for her own selfishness.

Kagome watched from the shadow’s as she cried. Kagome winced, sad that she was the cause of her sister’s distress. ‘Perhaps, it would have been better to have just stayed away, watched from afar.’ Kagome thought. ‘I seem to only bring pain to her.’ The only person that seemed to notice her presence in the shadow was the apparition. Kagome appeared suddenly in her gardens, she couldn’t stand to see Tohru cry anymore, because of her. It pained her greatly.

Tohru was so consumed with sorrow and sadness for what her sister had to suffer she didn’t notice the handsome fox approach her cautiously. His long somewhat unkempt orange hair was held back in a ponytail, his green-teal eyes cautious as they looked into her own brown eyes. Shippo was trying to figure out why his powerful Kagome was so keen on protecting this pretty, innocent human girl. The girl, as pretty as she was did not seem to have any power, or strength.

“Why does Kagome protect you so?” He questioned.

“Because, she is Kagome’s sister.” Shizen said.

“Tell Kagome we had to go little brother.” Shizen said before he Sesshoumaru, Kashaku, Saito, Hitaru, Kazero, Kiro and Rihatsu left. They did after all have a duty to their lands in Makai. Shippo growled, he still had questions that needed to be answered.

“I didn’t know Kagome had a sister.” He muttered.

“How come you weren’t taken?” He asked.

“Because Kagome protected me. When I was a little girl, my father was about to start beating me. You see I lived with my mother, Kagome with our father. Kagome told our mother to take me and go. We visited every other week and that week father had happened to be home or conscious. He was coming forward to hit me, when Kagome stabbed him. She wouldn’t let him hurt me, she kept stabbing him, over and over until he was dead. Mother took me and left Kagome there, alone.” Tohru said eyes glazed over as if in memory.

Shippo laid a gentle hand on her arm, a voiceless form, a physical form of comfort. He knew what it was like to watch as your father died, though this was completely different. He liked his father. He couldn’t even begin to imagine the years of pain Kagome suffered to protect what was hers even at such a young age. None the less to kill her own father.

Hiei who had seen quite enough left towards the garden’s where he felt the young cross-breed’s aura. He wouldn’t wish the torture she’s been through on his worse enemy. He walked up silently to stand by her side, Kagome said nothing to the hybrid as they both took comfort in the presence of someone who understood them. They didn’t need comfort in words, they were the solitary type.

“Tell me.” Kagome said.

“I’ll do better, I’ll show you.” Hiei replied. Kagome cocked a brow but left him to his own devices. Kagome was suddenly shoved into Hiei’s memories. She watched as kids and even adults tortured the young hybrid, she watched as a Koorime threw him out of Koorime Island. She watched as he suffered, as he endured, as he grew stronger, colder. She watched as the Jagan was implanted. She watched it all and not once did her facial expression change, not once did she feel pity for him, for that Hiei was thankful.

“Most people would pity the person that went through the things I’ve been thorough, why don’t you?” Hiei asked.

“I do not pity someone who is strong, powerful, smart. You and I are more alike then we believed. We are on some degree kin, both forbidden, and both strong.” Kagome replied her voice quiet so as not to disturb the peaceful silence that her land’s offer.

“Hn.”

“I too feel an odd sense of kinship with you.” Hiei said watching as the sunset in the sky.

“It’s odd.” Kagome said.

Hiei turned to look at her curiously. “What’s odd?”

“How comfortable I am with you.”

“Yes, it is.”

And with those words two lost souls, Kagome and Hiei stood together, watching as the sun set in the west. After all what more could they do but wait, they could not make the first move if they did not know where Naraku was. It was only a matter of time before he became bored and made the first strike. And the first mistake.

A/n: Yes...Short, I know, but hey it’s a chapter right? Better then nothing. I can’t think of where to go with the story. I originally intended to do no pairings but, my friends requested that I put up a poll and then Tanya’s moving to Canada. Hopefully my muse will come back soon.
