Sohma Hatori sighed as he put down his pen and rubbed his temples, closing his eyes and sighing at the same time. He had written about his fiftieth prescription in that day, and was tired as hell. He leaned back in his chair, trying to relax and get the words “times a day for as long as needed” out of his head. His mind drifted, as it often did after a hard day's work. And when it did, he could be sure it would lead to one of a few things.
Some days he pondered the fates of the “lusty youths”, as Ayame called them, in his family. And Kami-sama knows there was enough to worry about there to keep him occupied until old age set in. Both of the teenage boys living with Shigure (which, in itself, was something to worry about, seeing as how he had probably already begun to corrupt their minds with perverted ideas) were loud, confident bakas who constantly stirred up trouble with one another. To make matters even more troublesome, it was blatantly obvious to Hatori - and anyone with half a brain cell - that they were both in love with Tohru Honda, the mysterious stranger who had suddenly appeared in their lives - and apparently had had a huge effect on them. As if this weren't enough, Hatori could plainly see that she was in love Kyou and Kyou alone. How many fistfights and verbal sparring matches between the two boys this would lead to, he could not predict. But he knew the number wouldn't be nearly as low as he would like it to be.
And some days he simply wondered about his and his family's futures. When and if the curse would finally be broken, when Akito would release his death-grip on the members of his family, and what the younger generation of Sohmas would end up doing with their lives constantly perturbed him. Perhaps it was just his nature to do so, but he found he could not sit and simply be idle. Though he rarely talked, he was constantly thinking. He even had trouble sleeping because of so many extraneous thoughts clouding his mind. He figured he was just a worrier, and was plagued with that trait, unlike Ayame and Shigure, who took a more carefree outlook on life.
The majority of the time, though, he wasn't worrying about the destinies of his family. Deep down, he knew they were going to be all right in the end - a faith which, unfortunately, he did not have in his own well-being. Yes, the majority of his thinking time was devoted to something else: something that he, as hard as he tried to, could not erase from his memory.
