Fruits Basket Fan Fiction ❯ Ambivalence ❯ Chapter 1

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Disclaimer: I do not own fruits basket or any of the character from fruits basket no matter how much I wish I did…I want Gure! Pairing: YukixKyo Don’t like shonen ai (aka guyxguy romance)? In that case don’t read this. (please actual guys, don’t read this. I’m already embarrassed enough that I actually wrote it.)   It was obvious. Kyo was in love with his greatest enemy, Yuki, the rat. Kyo was cursed with the cat of the Zodiac and of course his greatest rival was the rat. But lately, Kyo had been acting differently towards Yuki. He wasn’t exactly nice but he wasn’t mean either. They got in less fights but nobody could tell whose part that was on. Yuki was the only one who couldn’t tell that the ct absolutely adored him. Everyone else noticed, though they ignored it. A relationship between Yuki and Kyo was far too disturbing to imagine and most people just thought that it wouldn’t last. How wrong they were. That first day was when Yuki had finally noticed that something funny was going on with the cat. Kyo was being a little too nice. Yuki knew that Kyo was making an effort to get along with him but when Kyo had hugged him it was obvious that something was up. Yuki was upset because he had gotten a low grade on a test and he knew he could have done better. He had been sulking in his room when Kyo walked in. “You okay?” he asked. “Why do you care, you stupid cat?” “Hey! I was just trying to be nice, you damn rat!” That was what Yuki had expected to hear but different words reached his ears. “I’m just a little worried about you. I know that this grade has got you down but you have so much to live for. You have a great life ahead of you and you shouldn’t be wasting it in your room, sulking.” Yuki had never heard Kyo speak like that before. So gentle and calm. It wasn’t like the cursed boy. By the time Kyo’s kind words had registered in Yuki’s mind, he was being embraced by his worst enemy. “What is wrong with you, you stupid cat?!” Yuki was scared out of his wits. This was the strangest thing to happen to him since he found Tohru living in a tent and that was pretty strange. “I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking.” Kyo walked away with a dejected look on his face, his vibe saying all but “kill me”. I guess he wanted to hug me. But that’s so unlike Kyo. Yuki was puzzled. “Wait!” he yelled, “Please wait!” Kyo slowly turned around, devastation emanating from him. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have yelled. It’s just out of character for you.” the prince truly was sorry. He didn’t know why. Normally, a hug from Kyo meant a beating for Kyo. “It’s all right.” Kyo was still upset but he wouldn’t let the topic be discussed any further. Eventually, both of the teens went their separate ways and Yuki went back to mourning over his grade while Kyo began mourning over his rash actions. ---------------------------

Yuki soon forgot about the incident with Kyo but in the two weeks after, it would rear its ugly head every once in a while. The most complicated part for Yuki to comprehend was why Kyo was being so nice. The first thing that came to mind was to make poor Tohru happy. She always worried so much when the two rivals fought. Yuki immediately discarded this idea reminding himself that Kyo no longer seemed to care for tohru considering she was now dating that stupid cow. Kyo and Haru were fighting before but once Kyo realized he would never get Tohru from him, he gave up. Kyo was not the kind of person to give up, you see. Which only added to Yuki’s fear that something was wrong. And that he had something to do with it.
