“Tohru!”
She turned her head slightly and looked back at Kyo running towards her.
“What happened? You don't have to leave you know.”
“But… Akito said… and besides, Yuki-kun doesn't want me around either.” Kyo glanced at the silver haired boy who did not look happy by the notion.
“Tohru, don't leave. Please, I'm begging you. We can take care of Akito and THAT DAMN RAT IS ALWAYS DOING STUPID THINGS.”
“Well, at least I'm not a stupid cat.” Yuki said quietly from where he sat.
“WHAT DID YOU CALL ME YOU DAMN RAT?” Kyo yelled and started to approach Yuki.
“Well, you are a stupid cat. Are you that willing to let Tohru get hurt?” Yuki's eyes flashed in the light and he waited for Kyo's response.
“No, but we can protect her. Are you that willing to let her go?”
“We should just let her leave. Akito struck her this time. I'd rather her be gone then getting hurt on our behalf. You selfish cat.” Yuki's voice was loud enough so that only Kyo could hear him. The orange haired boy turned then on his heels and walked back into the house.
“Tohru, where are you going to go?”
“I'll… I'll probably go back to my grandfather's house…” She sounded doubtful.
“Be careful. I'm sorry Tohru, under normal circumstances…” Yuki's words paused.
“I'm… I'm sorry too.” Tears fell down and hit Yuki's hand. He let her go and she ran as soon as possible.
“You stupid cat! Why didn't you just let her go? You made such a big deal about her leaving” Yuki slammed the doors and started searching for Kyo. As normal, Kyo was sitting on the roof. Kyo turned his head slightly and to Yuki it seemed all the light had gone from his eyes.
“I'm sorry. I was trying to protect her. I… I wanted to stay with her. At least until we had to go back. I'm sorry Yuki.” He placed his head in his hands. “Why did you let her go?”

A few hours earlier
“Tohru!”
“Uo-chan, I brought you a present.”
“Tohru, how was your trip?”
“It was fine. Ah here it is!” Tohru pulls out a giant shell and hands it to her friend.
“TOHRU! WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR FACE?” Uo-chan grabs the other girls chin and turns her face until the bandaged side is facing her.
“Oh. You know me… I uh.. tripped is all.. don't worry.” Tohru placed her hands between her and the other girl and tries to get her friend to relax.
***
“KYON! What happened to Tohru?” Uotani yelled.
“Why do you think it was my fault? WHY DO YOU THINK EVERYTHING IS MY FAULT?” Kyo started to rise from his chair
“Because WE left our precious Tohru in your hands for a vacation and she comes back with her face bandaged.”
“That wasn't me ok?!?!”
“Uo-chan… I just fell… It wasn't anyone's fault…” Tohru said quietly trying to break up the fight.
Both of them looked at her, Kyo's eyes focused on the bandage while Uotani's checked her friend for other forms of mistreatment.
“Ok, Kyon, if Tohru is hurt again, I'm holding you responsible. Got it?”
Kyo refused to say anything and continued to think of Uotani's words and Tohru's injury.
All throughout their argument Yuki sat and listened quietly. “It was my fault. I'm the only one to blame” he thought.

“Tohru?”
“Yes?”
“I think… it might be better if you no longer stayed with us.” Yuki said as he turned his face away.
“You don't want me to stay anymore?”
“Well…”
“I get it. I can leave. I'll pack my things at once. Besides this was temporary right?” She tried to give a reassuring smile but Yuki could see through it.
“Tohru, its not like that, but you would be better off living somewhere else.”
“I understand. I know I get in the way and I cause trouble for you, and everyone else.” She tried to hide the tears but Yuki still saw them. Yet, he did not know what he could do for them after he asked such an odd request. But I can't let Tohru be hurt anymore.
“I'm sorry. I hope we can still be friends…” His eyes slid away from her as even those words sounded hollow to him.
***
“So, that's what happened?” Kyo asked as Yuki settled beside him on the roof.
“Ya, pretty much.” Yuki replied melancholy
“Don't you think this is hurting Tohru just as much as us? I'm sure its worse than any wound Akito can deliver.” Kyo waited. “What hurt even more was that she took your opinion over mine. I asked her to stay.”
“You know what, you stupid cat, I don't ever remember getting along with you before Tohru came into our lives.”
“We still don't get along, you damn rat, but we make due for her. Its all due to her.” Kyo gazed at the stars and waited to hear the rat's reply.
Yuki's eyes stayed fixed ahead. “I'm sorry, Tohru…”

“Tohru, is everything ok? Your waves feel different today.”
“Ya, like Hana said, you seem different today.”
“Everything is ok. I swear!” Tohru insisted.
“Um.. Tohru, can we talk to you?” asked Kyo with Yuki standing behind him.
Tohru was about to ignore them when she caught a look at both of their faces. Neither one looked to have slept very much and they both looked really upset. “Ok”
Yuki nodded his head towards the door, while Kyo lead the way and Tohru followed.
“Hey, Tohru, I wanted to say, I'm sorry. I… I just didn't want to see Akito hurt you again. I didn't mean that we.. I didn't want you to stay. Please Tohru, don't leave. Kyo here was crying all night!” Yuki said.
“I WAS NOT CRYING YOU DAMN RAT! But please Tohru, stay. Ignore the idiot rat here.”
“Are you guys sure I don't cause trouble?” she looked from one face to the other.
“You cause more trouble by not being around.”
“hmm… Ok. If you are sure…” She looked at them waiting to see if they changed their minds.
“Yes. Don't leave me again.” Kyo grabbed her hand slightly and started to drag her back into to the classroom “Don't listen to the stupid things that rat says either.” He smiled slightly while Yuki grabbed her other hand.
