Chapter Two: Consequences
Akito sang softly to the seemingly lifeless girl that lay beneath him on his bed. She had come to him to confess her disobedience, and once again his mind had swept to the frightening side that he wishes he could tear from his own body. He had punished her, hit her, and then taken advantage of her. Even though she hadn't protested as he took her over and over, he knew she hadn't wanted it. He could see it in her eyes. When he was finished, he had floated back to his naturally gentle state and shook in horror at what he had done. He truly was a monster, nothing could change that. The only one that accepted him was Hatori.
Hatori entered the room cautiously, bag in hand. He knew it would be bad, Akito was playing music he never normally let anyone know he listened to. More to the point, he was singing. He quickly crossed the room and pulled the crying Akito off of Kagura. He wrapped the shaking leader of the Sohma clan in a blanket and turned his attention to the girl. Her pulse was normal, but her breathing was shallow. Her eyes stared lifelessly at the wall, drawn within herself to avoid the outside world. Her injuries were few and slight, thankfully. Akito had gone easy on her, and Hatori sighed an inaudible prayer of thanks. He dressed Kagura in the robe that Akito had kept in his closet, saved especially for her. When it had seemed that Kagura had fallen asleep, Hatori once more turned his attention to Akito. He was almost whimpering, that wasn't a good sign. Akito always tried to hide his feelings, he must seriously be beating himself up inside. Hatori pulled Akito into his arms, holding him close and whispering reassuringly to him. He assured Akito that she would be fine, even if he wasn't sure that she would mentally recover. He urged Akito to calm down before he strained himself too much, and Akito began weeping openly, curling his arms around Hatori's neck for support. Hatori laid him down on the bed beside Kagura, softly kissing him in hopes it would calm him. It did, and Akito relaxed onto the bed beneath him. His head turned to look at Kagura, wondering what would happen next. It was then that Kyou burst into the bedroom, practically kicking the door down.
"WHAT DID YOU DO? YOU FUCKING MONSTER, WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER?" He crossed the bedroom and was stopped immediately by Hatori. After some struggle, Hatori wrestled Kyou to the floor, assuring him that Kagura was alive and unharmed. Rustling was heard and Hatori let Kyou go as he stared in awe at the sight on the bed. Akito, who had practically no strength when he was in his calm stage, had pulled Kagura to him and was holding her tightly, crying his appologies into her neck. Kyou clenched his fists in rage, fully knowing why it was Akito was appologizing. He was going to reach forward to beat the hell out of him, when Kagura's arm slid around Akito's waist and held him close. Akito gasped in surprise as Kagura whispered she forgave him. She nuzzled into him for a few more moments before asking if she could spend the night at Shigure's house. Akito nodded and allowed Kagura to pull away from him, watching her as she stood and adjusted the beautiful kimono he had spent countless hours making for her the year before. She turned to Akito and bowed, stepping forward and kissing him gently, thanking him for her beautiful gift. She stepped back and turned, walking slowly out of the room. Hatori resumed his place at Akito's side, knowing he would need bedrest for a few days after the events of this night. Kyou simply stormed after Kagura, standing in front of her to bar her path and holding her shoulders. "Why? Why did you forgive him?! Look what he did to you!" A small bruise was visible on Kagura's cheek from where Akito had hit her earlier for her disobedience. She stared at Kyou deeply and replied, "I broke the rules. I earned it. At least Akito loves me. You hurt people and leave them to rot." Kagura walked past a shocked Kyou, seeing herself out of the main house and down the steps towards the main gate. Kyou shook in his shoes with what someone could mistake for rage. Instead, Kyou began to cry. She was right, Akito had hurt her but he loved her and showed it. Kyou had hurt her in a much worse way. He ignored her love and flagrantly displayed his affections for other people in front of her. And he deserved her contempt. He slowly left the building, following a few feet behind Kagura. Neither of them said a single word, all the way back to Shigure's house.

Everyone gathered on the porch when Momiji had yelled that he saw them coming. Kagura was wearing a beautiful white and pink kimono, and Kyou seemed to be unharmed. Shigure whispered that it was a miracle they were both fine, and he greeted Kagura with his normal sense of humor. "Ahhh Kagura, someone's looking VERY lovely this late evening!!" Kagura smiled as best she could, the bruise on her cheek stung with every move her mouth made. "Arigato, it was a present from Akito." She watched their mixed reactions as she removed her shoes and entered the house. Kyou reached out for her, but missed by inches and was left standing on the porch with the others. His arm fell sadly to his side as his eyes welled up once again with the tears he would hate to shed in front of anyone but himself. Tohru and Momiji followed eagerly after Kagura, commenting on how pretty she looked and hugging her, glad she was okay. Yuki and Haru maintained their silence, only Shigure spoke. "I think you were the one that needed a lesson to learn, Kyou. Have you?" Kyou slowly nodded and wiped his face as if trying to rid it of sweat, not tears. He kicked off his shoes and looked around for Kagura. Hearing a commotion from upstairs, he headed straight up to Tohru's room and knocked softly. He entered slowly after being given permission to do so, and his eyes met Kagura's. They stared at each other for what seemed like eternity. Momiji piped up, "Kyou-kun, doesn't she look pretty? I wish I had something as pretty as this to wear!" Kyou nodded, not breaking contact with Kagura's eyes. "Hai, more beautiful than I've ever seen before." Kagura's face remained emotionless as Kyou crossed the room and slid his arms around her waist. He held himself against her, waiting for her to respond. When she hadn't lifted her arms to hold him in return, he whispered an appology and held her tighter. "I had a lesson to learn, Kagura. Thank you for teaching me that you shouldn't take advantage of someone's love, it might not be there one day." His mind flooded with sadness as he slowly pulled away from her. Her eyes were red, she was crying once again and it was his fault. He cursed under his breath and stammered another appology, but she silenced it with a kiss so forceful it knocked Kyou back a few inches. He held her tightly, returning the kiss eagerly and for the first time he felt something beneath the surface he had only felt for Yuki before. He loved her, and he made a promise to himself to show her from now on.
When their kiss had broken, he smiled down at her, and she trembled in his arms. Suddenly her eyes flared and she began pummeling him. "KYOU YOU STUPID JERK I'VE BEEN WAITING FOREVER TO HEAR YOU SAY THAT, BAKA BAKA BAKA BAKA." Kyou screamed and ran through the house, Kagura hot on his heels. Shigure, hearing the commotion, simply shook his head and smiled, asking loudly if anyone else was up for left-overs. Everyone once again sat around the table as Tohru brought in the warmed up food from earlier, finishing where they had all left off. Kyou sat next to Kagura, wrapping an arm around her contently, smirking at Momiji who had bounded to the seat on the other side of her. He beamed happily, dragging Tohru to the seat closest to him, which placed her directly across from the head of the table where Shigure sat. Shigure winked at her and laughed as he began to stuff his face. On the other side of the table, Yuki was being poked and teased by a very eager Haru who had once again regained his black mode and had more on his mind than food. Everyone ate their dinner in contentment, each deciding to go to bed afterwards. Momiji bounded into Tohru's room, saying he would be her protector from the perverts of the household. An extremely frustrated Haru was dragging Yuki to his room, covering his mouth to keep him from protesting. "I've waited long enough, love." Their door closed and locked quickly behind them. Hand in hand, Kagura and Kyou walked the distance to Kyou's room and curled up together in bed, happy doing nothing more than holding each other for the night. Alone in his study, Shigure was once again dialing Ayame's number, when the tired sounding man answered the phone, Shigure growled, "You're coming over tonight, or I'm going to go there and fetch you myself." A moment of laughter passed and Ayame whispered he'd be right over. Thus another eventful day was concluded in the anything-but-normal house of Shigure Sohma.
