Kyo woke first. Amber had rolled away and was now wedged in a corner curled up in a ball. She was giving off a slight purring noise. He looked at her for a moment longer. Something was different about her, but he couldn't quite place his finger on it. He went into the kitchen. Kyo pulled some rice and cod out of the fridge along with two plates. He set the table as the food was cooking. A scream broke the silence. He ran into the other room. Amber was rolling around the floor, sweat covering her face. She was still a sleep though. Another scream burst from her. This time though, it sounded more like an animal scream. Kyo ran over and held her still by her shoulders. Her eyes shot open. Lunging out of his grasp to the other side of the room, she looked around panicked. Her chest heaved with the deep breaths she took to calm herself. Amber pulled her knees up to her chest. She pushed her head into her knees and started to shutter. Kyo came over.

"Amber, are you okay?"

Amber didn't respond. Kyo was lost, he didn't know what to do. Tentatively, he reached his hand out toward her. She jerked slightly when he put his hand on her shoulder. Kyo pulled back. Though it was out of his character, he decided to console her. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders gentally.

"Amber its okay. No one here is going to hurt you. Tell me whats wrong."

Amber looked up at him. She hugged him. No poof was heard though. Kyo was a little puzzled about not transforming but let her keep hugging him. She was still shuttering.

"I'm changing back." She whispered.

"Changing back? Into what?"

She looked up at him. Her eyes, they were slits. She had cat eyes. Something waved behind her. A pure black tail.

"Maybe not completely, but my blood has woken."

"Blood? Whats going on?"

"I'm a panther demon."

"Demon! Demons aren't real!"

"Yeah, just like the zodiac curse?"

She pulled away from him. Amber did have a point. If zodiac animals were real, why couldn't demons be? He followed her into the kitchen. Amber had taken over cooking. The pan that held the cod was in her hand. With a swift motion, she flipped the fish out of the pan and onto the table without looking. Next was the rice, she carried that over to the table. Kyo took a seat as Amber served him some rice and put a piece of fish on his plate. she fixed her plate and dug in. The meal was quiet, not even the birds were chirping. Amber picked up the sound of the door unlocking. She looked at the doorway. Kyo watched for what she was looking for. Hatori came around the corner. He looked at Amber, immediatly seeing the difference. He put a bag on the table.

"Groceries will be delivered every two weeks, make the food last."

He left. She followed him to the door.

"When am I getting out?"

"I don't know, probably never."

"If I get Kyo out, will you not help find him?"

"I can't make promises."

Amber nodded solemnly and turned back to the kitchen. I need to find a way out of here. She sat back in the chair. That's when she noticed the bracelet on Kyo's wrist.

"What's this for?" She pointed toward the bracelet.

"Keeping things hidden." He spoke quietly.

"I told you what I was. Why are you hiding something from me? Fear I'll hate you?"

He looked a little surprised that she had guessed it so easily.

"You know, Nira thought the same thing before I found out he was a demon. I stayed with him till he died."

"I'm not a demon."

"No but you are still hiding something. Tell me."

"I'm a monster." He whispered.

He stared down at his plate hard, waiting for laughing or a scream. Nothing came. Amber was still sitting there. Taking every word seriously. Why would she have reason to doubt him? He had never lied to her before, so why would he start now? She went into her own thoughts.

"I've got it!" She said snapping her fingers. "I can't touch the walls, windows, or door that leads outside. But if you break down the door or wall, we can both get out of here and exact revenge on that sadistic bastard Akito."

Amber had her arms crossed, her head held high, and a look of triumph plastered on her face.

"No. I can't change into that thing."

"That thing is a part of who you are. You have to cope with it, and use it whenever the time may arise. I told you I'd help you, but now I need your help." She thought for a little bit. "I'll let you take the first swing at Akito."

She locked eyes with him seriously.

"I will let you think it over. You can take as much time as you want. I'll give you till I'm completely done changing back. If the answer is 'no' then I think of another plan. Right now I'm going to take a shower though."

Amber skipped off into the bathroom. He heard the bath water running. Can I do it. What if she hates me? Did she mean what she said that she wouldn't hate me? How can I be sure? I want to help but I don't want that monster to show itself. He finished his food and threw his plate in the sink. He flipped on the TV though his mind was not on the show. The bathroom door slid open and Amber walked out in a bath towl.

"Forgot my clothes." She smiled.

She dug into the dresser and pulled out a crimson T-shirt and black jeans. She turned to Kyo.

"Do you think I should wear a thong or reagular underware."

"What the hell kind of question is that!" He yelled.

"A kinky one. Don't worry I was just joking."

She skipped off into the bathroom again. He just stared. She poked her head out the door.

"Or did you really have a preference?" She questioned.

"Damn it! Go take your shower!"

Fifteen minutes later she walked out of the bathroom with her hair in a towl. She yawned and stretched out on the floor. Her tail flicked back and forth. Kyo was zoning out in a daze. Her tail stiffened and the fur spiked as she smelled some one coming. Akito came into the house. She jumped to her feet and glared at him. Kyo also stood.

"Don't look at me you filthly monster!" Akito hissed.

"Then don't just barge in here, jackass!" Amber spat.

"Amber. I'm glad to see your up." Sarcasm dripping from his voice.

She hissed at him. Akito noticed the tail twitching violently behind her.

"What do we have here?" He asked approaching.

He reached his hand out. His grip went around her tail. She growled and he pulled harder. Amber snapped. She lashed out at him. Her nails ripped through his kimono and opened wounds on his stomach. Gasping he let go of her tail and held the bloody wounds. Akito tried fleaing but to no avail. She lashed out again. His legs gave out on him. Kureno and Hatori burst into the room. Hatori held a syringe in his hand. Kureno jumped at Amber pushing her to the floor. She kicked him off. Hatori taking thiis opprotunity jumped Amber from behind. He plunged the needle into her side. She flung him away like and insect. Her vision started shifting and blurring. She started swaying. Then she fell to the floor.

"Kill her!"

"Akito we can't"

"No one even knows she exists. Kill her!"

"Yes, Akito." Kureno replied getting up.

Kureno picked up her body and carried her out. Akito was helped up by Hatori. Kyo just stood there. Everything that happened sinking in. It hit him like a ton of bricks.

"There gonna kill her! What am I going to do?"

HIs mind went back to the conversation they had earlier. She had told him that he had to let the beast in him out if he ever wanted to get out. And right now, he wanted to get out. He looked down at his bracelet. I swore to myself that I would protect her and I will.
