Different life
He sat on the roof thinking of how things happened. Everything has changed. He thought of the little boy who couldn't wait to defeat that rat, and he looked at himself now, finding most of his free time with him. He shook his head. He was still going to defeat him one of these days… but for now he'd bide his time for her.
He had to smile when he remembered why he spent so much time with the rat. If he was told someone like her existed and he'd feel this way about her when he was a little boy, he would have laughed in that person's face. No one who knew what he really was, his true form, had ever really cared for him. Yet, she knew, and she still treated him like a human. He never wanted to hurt her. Not again, not ever. He turned his head slightly when he heard feet on the roof.
“Kyo?” her voice came softly. She smiled when he sat up and offered her a seat. “What are you doing out here? Did you get into another fight with Yuki?”
He smiled to himself. No, he didn't fight with that damn rat. “No, I just needed some space to think.”
“Oh.” She looked at him. “What were you thinking about?”
“I was thinking of nothing really, just how things have changed. It feels like a whole different life since I've moved in here.” He had to smile at her and his mind was concentrating on how close they were.
“It's amazing isn't it? If I knew I'd be living with you and Yuki I don't think I'd believe it.” She smiled up at him.
“If I was told I'd be living with that damn rat… I would think whoever told me was insane.” He laughed and she kept on smiling. Damn her smile, he thought.
“I'm happy you and Yuki have gotten along better.” She looked up at the stars and he kept his eyes on her.
“We get along?” he asked.
She nodded, “You don't fight nearly as much as you used to.”
He laughed to himself. It was her fault, he thought. But he knew it wasn't important. He wanted to spend as much time with her as possible. He needed these memories.
She stood up and reached out her hand, “So, are you coming?”
He couldn't help but smile a bit when he took her hand and they walked down together.

He sat on the roof the next night too. He liked sitting in high places. It let him think easier, it was his space. He couldn't explain it. She wandered up there again that night too.
This time, she sat without saying a word. Her eyes were again on the stars. “They are so pretty.”
This time, she sat without saying a word. Her eyes were again on the stars. “They are so pretty.”
He smiled. Her presence was never an intrusion. It was like they belonged up there together. “They are.” There was no idle chattering this time. He had no words for her and she didn't mind the silence between them.
He blinked and leaned his head onto her shoulder. “I hope you don't mind…” he commented.
She seemed to get tense, but relaxed relatively soon. Her fingers brushed his orange hair from where it tickled her neck. He smiled.
“I love you.” He murmured.
He didn't see her eyes get wide, but he felt her tense again. She pulled away from him and looked him in the eyes. “What did you say?” she whispered.
He swallowed. He was afraid to lose her, but the words were already out. “I love you.” He said softly.
She nodded. She wasn't about to leave he realized. He smiled at her and shrugged. “I needed to say it.”
She smiled at him and leaned close to him. “I care for you a lot.” She whispered.
Well, it wasn't love, but it was close, he thought. He pulled her closer and kissed her softly but his mind started to wander. “Do you love Yuki?” he held his breath.
“No, I care for him, but I don't love him.” She looked at him while she said this. His eyes seemed guarded to her. She smiled slightly and kissed him. “I don't care for him as much as you.” She leaned back and turned her attention back to the stars. “They really are amazing tonight.”
He smiled and joined her in star watching. “Yes.” He murmured.
