Fruits Basket Fan Fiction ❯ East Side, West Side ❯ Stubborn as a Sister ( Chapter 1 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Hi all. Well, here it is. It was bound to happen sometime. My first Fruits Basket fanfic. Seen the episodes, read a few of the books online and whatnot, bought a Shigure plushie (Okay, my brother bought it for me), not that it really has anything to do with it, but yeah. So here goes nothing...
-------------------------------------------
8220;Hellooooo!”
Kyou opened his eyes as he heard a girl’s voice from below. He was up on the roof of Shigure’s house again, almost falling asleep this time. He sat up and looked down, seeing a girl that looked strangely familiar.
She looked no taller than five feet. Her long brown hair was tied back into a high ponytail. She was wearing sunglasses over her eyes, a red top with a pinkish colored net top underneath and a horse pendant necklace. Blue jeans and blue converse-looking shoes completed her outfit. She had a suitcase in her left hand, switching it to her right as she looked around.
Who the-? Kyou thought. “Can I help you?” He asked lazily.
The girl looked up and spotted Kyou. A small smile spread across her face. “Aw, and I was hoping to surprise you.” She reached up and removed her sunglasses, mirroring Kyou’s eyes with crimson eyes of her own.
Kyou’s eyes widened as he suddenly realized who the girl was.
Make her a few feet shorter, split her ponytail into two on opposite sides of her head, put her in a childish outfit, put a horse plush in one hand, a small suitcase in the other, and subtract six or seven years and Kyou could clearly see, as if it were in neon lights, that very girl was...
“K-Kasumi?” Kyou uttered his little sister’s name.
“Hi Kitty kitty!” Kasumi smiled and waved, tucking her sunglasses behind her ears.
Kyou jumped down from the roof and stared at Kasumi. “What the hell are you doing here?”
“Why, visiting you of course.” Kasumi said innocently. “I haven’t seen you since I was, what? Eight? I’m already fifteen!”
“Kyou, what’s all the noise out there?” Shigure asked as he came out of the house. Upon seeing Kasumi, he smiled. “Well, Kasumi. I was wondering when you’d arrive.”
“Hi Shigure.” Kasumi smiled and waved to Shigure.
“Wait, you knew she was coming?” Kyou looked to Shigure.
“Of course. Did I forget to tell you? She’ll be staying with us for a few weeks.” Shigure said.
“Weeks!” Kyou yelled.
“Maybe a month.” Kasumi said.
“A month!” Kyou looked back at Kasumi.
“Or two.” Kasumi smiled sweetly.
Kyou could’ve fainted. He couldn’t stand Kasumi for a few weeks, let alone a month...or two. This is gonna be hell. He instantly thought.
“Come inside, Kasumi. If I’m correct, you’ve been dying to see Yuki also. And you just have to meet Tohru. You’ll like her.” Shigure smiled at Kasumi.
“Tohru? The one you said over the phone who knows the Sohma family secret?” Kasumi blinked.
“Yes, that one.” Shigure nodded.
“Alrighty then!” Kasumi smiled.
“Come on in. Bring your things.” Shigure walked inside.
“Right behind ya!” Kasumi followed.
Kyou stood still, thinking about how he was going to survive his sister for what was possibly two months. Last time she only stayed for one, but she was more tolerable back when she was eight. Now she was fifteen and who knew what kind of stuff she would do.
“Oh really? You’re a member of the zodiac too?” Tohru smiled as Kasumi introduced herself.
“That’s right.” Kasumi smiled. “Born November 24, 1990. A Sagittarius born under the Year of the Horse. I’m, of course, the horse. Or a horse. If memory serves, there’s another horse among the cursed members.” Kasumi turned to Shigure.
“That would be Rin.” Shigure nodded. “You’re right. She is also a horse. You two are the only known members to share the same zodiac sign.”
“That makes us special.” Kasumi kidded. She turned her attention back to Tohru. “So what year were you born in?”
“I was born in the Year of the Dog.” Tohru smiled.
“You’re a dog too? Like Shigure!” Kasumi smiled.
“You may or may not find this interesting, Tohru, but Kasumi is quite obsessed with her animal.” Shigure laughed lightly.
“I’m not obsessed. I just happen to like horses a lot.” Kasumi playfully stuck out her tongue at Shigure. She once again turned back to Tohru. “It’s true. See, I got this horse pendant,” She showed Tohru her necklace. “And my friends back in America, Dawn and Anita, their parents own a horse ranch. I got this funny story to tell you about when I was little and how I didn’t like how the kept the horses locked up, but I’ll tell you later.”
“And I see you grew out of your stuffed animal.” Shigure smiled.
“Oh, she became anorexic.” Kasumi joked. “I’m serious. You could feel your fingers through her stomach. She lost a lot of her stuffing. I never knew how though. She retired to my headboard on my bed.”
“Well, if it isn’t Kasumi.” Yuki smiled as he walked downstairs.
“Yuki!” Kasumi smiled and ran over. She hugged Yuki semi-tightly. “It’s been forever since I’ve seen you!”
“Seven years?” Yuki asked, recalling Kasumi’s last visit.
“Yup. Oh, Yuki, you should’ve seen Kyou’s face when Shigure told him that I’d be staying here for a while.” Kasumi giggled.
“I can imagine.” Yuki smiled lightly. “How long are you staying?”
“Maybe a month or two.” Kasumi smiled.
“...A month or two?” Yuki blinked. He was taken a bit by surprise as well. A week or two was his guess, but a month? It wasn’t that he really minded, but Kasumi had never stayed in Japan that long. Though, Kasumi had only stayed that one time. Then again, she hadn’t seen any of her family since then, so maybe a month or two was understandable in her case.
“Yeah.” Kasumi nodded. “One of the school counselors suggested it. Said I deserved a break from the school.”
That’s right...Yuki thought. Kasumi goes to an all girls’ school in another country.
“So you live in America?” Tohru asked.
“Oh yeah.” Kasumi smiled. “It’s pretty fun over there. Especially at the ranch. I love it there.”
“Then why don’t you go back.” Kyou slightly growled as he walked in.
Kasumi blinked, confused as to why Kyou seemed angry about her arrival. “What is it, Kitty kitty? You don’t want me here?”
“What was your first clue?” Kyou yelled.
Kasumi blinked once more, then smiled. It wasn’t her usual innocent smile. It was more of an evil smile that tried to look innocent. “Well guess what. I ain’t going anywhere, so you’re just gonna have to put up with me until I leave.” Her smile went innocent as she turned to Shigure. “So where will I be staying?”
“I’ll show you to your room.” Shigure offered, leading Kasumi out of the room.
Kasumi quickly followed.
“Um, Kyou...why don’t you want Kasumi here? She is your sister after all.” Tohru asked, looking to Kyou.
“I was barely able to stand her when she was eight. I can’t imagine how I’m gonna live now that she’s older.” Kyou grumbled.
“Well, now that she’s grown up, maybe she’s more mature.” Tohru suggested.
“Doubt it.” Kyou replied.
“It’s not that Kasumi’s annoying, Miss Honda,” Yuki started. “It’s just, she has a way of showing her affection for Kyou a little similar to Kagura. Only she’s not as violent. It’s only because Kasumi’s only seen Kyou once before and this is the only other time she’s been allowed to visit.”
“Why does she live in another country?” Tohru asked.
“Nobody really knows.” Yuki said. “She’s been attending the same all girls’ school since she first started school. Nobody’s really questioned who sent her there or why.”
“I see.” Tohru nodded.
“So Kasumi tries to cram all the time she’s spent away from Kyou into the one visit she gets every chance she gets. And because of that, she sometimes goes overboard with showing how much she loves and adores him. I don’t see how she could adore him though.” Yuki glanced at Kyou.
“I heard that, you damn rat!” Kyou shouted.
“Here’s your room.” Shigure opened the door to the room Kasumi would be staying in.
“Thanks, Shigure.” Kasumi smiled, putting her suitcase down.
“Tell me if you need anything.” Shigure smiled, beginning to walk out.
“Um, Shigure?” Kasumi called after him.
“Well, that was quick.” Shigure kidded, turning back around. “What is it, Kasumi?”
“I have to tell you something. I’m not sure if it’s important, but it kinda freaked me out.” Kasumi said.
“I’m listening.” Shigure leaned against the doorframe.
“Well...while I was at the airport, I had to go get something and there were a lot of people around so I was being as careful as I could not to bump into any guys. Well, there was this boy coming from the opposite direction and we were both kinda in a rush so we kinda...bumped into each other.” Kasumi admitted.
“Uh oh. Don’t tell me you transformed in front of all those people.” Shigure frowned lightly.
“No, and that’s the weird part. I didn’t. But what was sorta freakier was...the boy. After I bumped into him, I swear I looked like I was gonna drop dead from transforming in front of everyone, but after I didn’t transform, I looked at him and he looked like he was thinking the same thing as me.” Kasumi said.
“I see.” Shigure nodded.
“And I don’t think he was a Sohma either. After our little encounter, he rushed over to this group of people, probably his family. I heard their last name was Okurimono. But I don’t know if they were coming or going.”
Shigure nodded once more. “Well if they were coming, we might have to find them. If they were going, I don’t think we can do much about it. As long as our secret wasn’t exposed, I suppose we don’t have to really worry. But I’m glad you told me, Kasumi.”
“Mm-hm.” Kasumi nodded.
“Well, Tohru should be starting to make dinner anytime soon.” Shigure smiled. “Her cooking is delicious.”
“I can’t wait to try some.” Kasumi smiled.
“I’ll come check on you to see how you’re doing in a while.” Shigure walked out.

And there you have it! My first Fruits Basket fanfic! Well, the first chapter anyway. Tell me what you think!
