Fruits Basket Fan Fiction ❯ Enough ❯ Enough ( One-Shot )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

A/N: It's pretty sad. This one was random too. I don't know why I'm writing all these fan fictions where people die. Maybe I'm going through a phase. Anyway please enjoy.

It was too much.

Too much, every part of his body felt it. He couldn't shake it off. Everywhere-To the tips of his fingers and toes. His head felt like it was spinning so fast that everything was blurry. It was like he was on fire. He couldn't get rid of it. It was too much- too overwhelming; he couldn't take it.

So he ran.

`I can't solve everything like this- running.' He thought to himself as he whipped past trees and bushes, trying to avoid the occasional root that would stick up from the ground.

He looked behind himself, stumbling slightly from the action.
`Good. No one's coming.' He thought, pushing himself to run faster.

It had been so long since he had run from something, but this was too much.

Yuki, Kyo, Haru, Ayame, Momiji, and Tohru would all be looking for him soon. It didn't matter anymore.

It started to rain. His steps became weaker- he kept slipping on the muddy ground. But he had to keep going, he had to get away from it all.

He didn't see the upturned root and his foot hit it causing him to plummet to the ground. He landed in a puddle of rain and mud, though he tired to keep moving. He tried to crawl- in the slimy muck he pushed himself with both feet, hands desperately trying to cling onto something to pull himself up.
`I have…to keep…moving.'

But that was it- he was too tired. His exhaustion took its toll and the tears finally came. They came in crashing waves, his whole body sobbing and shaking from the force of his misery and grief.

“Why?” he yelled aloud, knowing he wouldn't get an answer but dreadfully needing to say it out loud.
“Why?” he yelled again, fists banging into the unresponsive dirt. “Why did he have to-”

No he couldn't say it that aloud, because that would make it true. That would mean that it really did happen. That would mean that he would never see him again. That would mean that he could never see his face, or his half-smile, or hear his sarcastic comments or ever get to complain about him. That would mean that he had truly lost him.

“Why!?!?” He yelled one last time at the sky in agony. The tears were slowly stopping now- he had dried himself up. Everything was going black.

“Why did you have to go? Why did it have to be this way? Why…couldn't…I do something…. why” he mumbled to himself as he passed out from fatigue.

The others found Shigure later. He was truly a mess. His hair and clothes were matted with mud; leaves and twigs, while his face had dried tear marks and dirt on it.

They couldn't really blame him much though. No one had taken the death of Hatori well.
