“Release me this instant!” Akito shrieked.
“Why would I want to do something so ridiculous as that considering I'm the one who put you there,” she said, smiling slightly.
“This is kidnapping! I'm the head of the Sohma family, the police will be looking for me.”
“What do I have to fear from human law enforcement? And before you scream that your family will be on the hunt of you, allow me to make a few things clear to even your stunted and twisted little mind. The only ones who have even made the slightest attempt to find you are the dog and dragon. Though I think the dragon's inclinations are simply from obligation,” she said, stepping around the cage and pressing the button to lower it. “Melee, be a dear and make sure the brat is cleaned and dressed for the occasion.”
“It shall be as you will it, my Lady,” Melee said, bowing deeply to her. “Are there any special instructions?”
“You can't do this to me!”
“A ball gag would be a nice addition.”
“She'd just chew through it in an hour so why bother.”
“Ah, correct as usual.”
Hatori put his head in his hands and leaned his elbows heavily on the desk. Nothing. He had come up with nothing in the last week. He and Shigure had checked into every hospital, clinic, medicine shop, and quack in the area. He had even put in calls to colleagues from school to look for Akito. He worried that when, he refused to think if, she was found she would be dead. Real fear was beginning to creep along his nerves along with the shuddering chill of helplessness.
“Anything?” was the question from the doorway.
“Nothing,” he said, looking up at Shigure. The dog's eyes seemed larger than ever and the dark circles beneath them spoke of just how little sleep he'd had recently.
“We have to find her,” Shigure said, his body language far more tense than his usual relaxed state.
“I know. But for the life of me, I can't figure out how.”
Akito had to admit that she felt oddly good. Better than she had in several years, in fact. She sat where she'd been placed in mild confusion. She had been bathed, fed and dressed, all under protest but it had occurred all the same. The light pink cheongsam brought out rosy tones in her skin, she had to admit, not that she was happy being dressed as a girl. She had fought, kicked, clawed and tried to punch only to be gently restrained and put into the clothing anyway and eventually placed back into the cage.
“What are you planning to do with me?” she demanded.
Melee smiled. “That is for my Lady to know. I have no access to that information. I do know that she has been extremely lenient with you considering your crimes.”
“What crimes?”
Melee blinked and looked at her as though the answer was the most obvious thing in the world. “Why, your crimes against your family.”
