A/N- obviously none of these characters are mine, not even a little bit of them. So no sue-age.
Thoru sighed as she picked up the uneaten pot of soup from the table. The phone had rang only a few moments earlier. It had been Guire,Kyo, and Yuki. They were all too busy to make it back home for dinner. Thoru attempted to speak to them about when they would be back, but it was obviously they were too wrapped up in bickering amongst themselves. Unfortunately Throru had gotten this message just after finishing the meal. Above the table the clock ticked slowly, and Thoru couldn't help but feel a little bit irritated.
`I hate it.' She murmured to herself.
`Thoru-san hates something? No way..' remarked a smooth voice behind her. Thoru jumped and nearly dropped the bowl from her hand. She steadied herself and placed the bowl down.
`How long have you been lurking there, Haru-san?' asked Thoru as she turned to face the boy. He met her shocked face with a crooked smile.
`Long enough' He headed into the kitchen following the flustered Thoru. He noted the obvious absence of the other Shoma members.
`They're all out this evening' Thoru replied to Haru's unasked question.
Haru remained silent, as was his nature. For the lonely Thoru this was both a blessing and a curse. In her current mood, which was very different from her usually cheery disposition, she couldn't care less about conversing. This was the third time this week alone the Shomas had left her alone, and she was starting to feel a little angry and irritated. However, on the other hand it would be nice to have someone to talk to , but since Haru wasn't a very big talker she'd have to settle for his presence alone.
`Soup?' Thoru asked quietly, no reason to let it all go to rest.
`I just ate,' Haru watched Thoru's face carefully, scrutinizing over the look of hurt she had in place of her normal bright smile and wide eyes of naivety. `but I always am in the mood for your cooking' he added kindly feeling a bit piteous at her current state. He assumed it was the loneliness of the normally busy house. Indeed without the three males, the echoing silence was almost deafening and made the room seem eerie.
Thoru bustled around preparing for two to eat. Haru walked in and turned off the dripping water from the sink and watched as Thoru's lips moved. She was singing. Haru smirked and tried to hear what she was saying, `I want to sing to you…a tear drop isn't impressive..so don't bother turning around.' Thoru straightened up from her stoop of searching for a spoon in the cupboard.
`Haru! Stop sneaking around like that!' Thoru exclaimed. Haru just shrugged and sat down at the table. Silence covered the two like a thick blanket, it was nearly suffocating.
However, for once Thoru had no desire to fight the quiet and stayed inside her mind, as she assumed Haru did. It seemed strange for it to be just her and Haru, and then she realized, why was Haru here?
`Haru, why are you here?'
`I needed to fight the kitten and talk to Yuki.' Haru inclined his head in a questioning motion. `What's wrong with you?'
`Nothing. It's odd around here lately is all'
`Might get stranger, I want Yuki to move in to an apartment in the city with me and Momji' Haru added almost hurriedly, he didn't want to hurt Thoru, but felt like he should say something anything to her. She sat silently, her wide eyes downcast. Haru inhaled sharply his own breath cutting the back of his throat. It was strange, but this girl who had come so strangely into all their lives, made him hurt more than any injury he had ever felt. It didn't help when he felt he hurt her back.
Thoru reeled back from Haru's words. Yuki leaving? That's ..she couldn't think straight. She wasn't sure if it was just the stifling awkwardness of this evening or a combination of hurtful news, unwanted ness and Haru's unusual closeness. She sat there remembering the first time she had met this strange boy. He had tripped Kyo during a run at school and Yuki had toppled as well. While Haru had shown up to fight Kyo, he was cut short but seeing Yuki sickly and hurt. He had informed Thoru that Yuki was his first love. Strange as she had thought it at the time, it made sense to her. In some ways she thought Yuki was her first love as well, but she guessed not. After all, that fluttery feeling she had once gotten just seeing his silver hair near her, his bright eyes smiling, and his lips tugging at the corner with a grin had vanished soon after she had moved in and became a permanent `guest' at the Shoma's residence. She caught Haru's eye from over the table and he to was sitting there thinking over something.
`Of course, I'm thinking it's a foolish idea now. He is so well adjusted and …'
`I'm fine Haru.' Thoru added smiling. He didn't need to worry about her she tried to reason but inside her mind was reeling. `why do I care if he's here. I don't love Yuki, and I don't love Haru…wait…maybe I do like him a lot. And it is irritating with him just sitting there smirking at me, like he knows a secret'
`I agree..' Haru added and grinned at Thoru's face. `Whatever you're thinking about so intently, it must be important or wise at least, so I agree.' Thoru sat back and shivered, he never said so much at once and she was a little nervous.
`I don't think so…'
`Well let me in on the secret' Haru stated moving closer to Thoru, now feeling that they were successfully `bonding.'
`Where's my hat?!' Thoru said blushing and standing up to look for it.
`What hat' Haru played along. He had missed neither her obvious lie nor the blush from him being so near her. His heart skipped a beat, `This is ridiculous her and Yuki or Kyo or hell even both are going to waltz off into the sunset, or get killed….together. She's pretty and nice and….but the point is we're not the one's who have the feelings for each other…at least on her side. I'm not the fiery prince or prince charming…I'm the punk with no ability to find my way around. Besides the bad boy never gets the girl'
Haru stood and began to look around for the `hat' in question and laughed. Only for Thoru would he play this game, at least while he was in white mode. Of course had he been black he wouldn't have spent all this time questioning what he wanted. Had he been in his black mode he would have seen the empty house and taken her on the table. He was beginning to be a little sad about not being in black mode. He caught a glimpse of Thoru looking outside at the doors the sun had disappeared and the stars were out, Thoru stood captivated. `No surprise to me there, she seems like the type to get lost in some other world'
`Thoru?' He slipped up behind her and looked down. He gently placed his hands on her waist and followed her gaze to the sky. He heard Thoru catch her breath in her throat, but she didn't move, and neither did he.
`I love the stars, its so beautiful' Thoru's eyes were wide, and her fading smile had come back brighter than ever. Haru decided to let the hat lie drop. They we're both startled apart at the sound of the three Shoma's crashing through the house..
`Yeah well I could kick your ass ..' Kyo yelled.
`I assure you couldn't.' Yuki murmured rolling his eyes.
A string of inaudible threats emanated from Kyo's mouth as Yuki brushed them off reverting to the true old form of `Stupid Cat.'
`Thoru, Hatori said that Haru was coming over here… did he get here, cause otherwise he could be…..COULD YOU TWO CUT IT OUT!'
Thoru turned to go into the house and Haru followed regretfully. He had been closer than he ever had been to her, they had shared a moment, and he officially hated his cousins at the moment.
`Shiguire-san, Haru is here. Welcome home.'
The bickering stopped long enough for them to all say their welcomes. Shiguire noticed that Thoru was smiling brighter than usual and checked Haru's color. White ,definitely, he was languid and unimpressed by the anger in the room. He let out a breath of relief it wouldn't due for the rat and cat over there to think Haru had pulled a move on Thoru. He had noticed over the few weeks the shy glances and blushes the two exchanged with each other, but it seemed he was the only one until tonight.
Thoru cleaned the kitchen and Shiguire pulled Haru to the living room ignoring the yelling from upstairs.
`Big fight for being at home?' Haru questioned Siguire's curious eyes.
Shiguire waved his hand as if to brush away the subject casually' I've seen bigger.'
`hmm' Haru's eyes wandered over to the kitchen where he saw Thoru finishing off and heading back over to her outside post, entranced by the glittering night above them all.
`Haru what happened?' Shiguire murmured quietly.
`Nothing. I think I love Thoru.' Haru said it casually, matter-of-factly, and almost shocked himself as Shiguire jumped away quickly.
`Well that's sudden'
`I agree' His casual tone not faltering. Whatever passion he felt for Thoru was going to either stay inside of him or be told to Thoru, not to the curious bystanders.
Shiguire followed Haru's gaze and nodded in an almost under `Be careful, not just for the obvious reasons' Shiguire noted in a hushed voice of worry. Shiguire walked away and looked back to see Haru already crossed over to the porch where Thoru stood.
`Haru?' Thoru asked, hoping inside of her it was that boy with the black and white hair who made her heat beat faster and her breathe stop mid way in her throat.
`…' Haru stood beside her and felt her slip her hand inside his. He looked over with her eyes now glued onto him instead of the stars. `You're going to miss your falling star'
She smiled and let her eye wandered aimlessly above her, Haru didn't. Now you'll miss it,'
`I don't need it.'
`…'
Haru leaned over and gently pressed his lips against Thorus. It was quick and precious and Haru pulled away to stare at Thorus shocked face.
`I love you'
Thoru's eyes widened. Do I have love him? Do I just like him…I like his lips a lot right now…he drives me crazy though he's either silent or bouncing off the walls…
Haru's confidence shattered.
Besides bad boys don't get the girl
He was shocked by the comfort of a gentle kiss and with his face cradled in her hands Thoru slowly and purposely replied, `I love you to Haru..'
The world could fall with the stars now and the two in each others arms wouldn't notice.
