"I've had enough of you Yuki!" Kyou shouted, drew his fist and hit Yuki, though he had expected it to hit him square on the face it was blocked by the other's hand. His instincts made him move away but it was already late to evade the oncoming punch from his silver haired cousin.

Yuki put down his defenses and wiped the blood off of his face. He threw the cat an annoyed look befor leaving for his secret base. He didn't have to put up with this kind of treatment, having done nothing wrong.

The other residents of the house hadn't really expected the fight, as always. Yuki had been minding his own business as did Kyou, but the latter had found the rat's presence annoying. He asked Yuki to leave the room since he needed to do an important task, one thing led to another, starting from verbal taunts and then bickering until they had ended up exchanging blows in the backyard.

Tohru and Shigure had been watching the whole thing and kept their silence, sitting side by side just out of sight from the two a while a go. In the beginnings of the events this day, Tohru had still found it in herself to play arbiter but all was lost as her pleas fell on deaf ears and Shigure had to drag her away to make her realize it was of no use.

They both faced one another, then the wrecked state of the house. The elder of the two sighed. "Tohru-kun, be a dear and buy some materials needed to fix this up. Just call me when you're back, ne, so I can help." Shigure said, standing from his position beside the addressed and picked up a rather large piece of wood lying down on the floor that came from the newly repaired door. He offered a wan smile to his companion as a sweat drop formed at the back of his head.

Tohru returned the gesture to the man, understanding the others feelings about the additional payments and was glad that she could help someway. She patted Shigure on the shoulder before she left on her assigned task humming to herself. She passed by the kitchen and got the stash of emergency money only to be used for occasions such as this and exited the Sohma household, off to get supplies.

Shigure sighed again, went inside in hopes of getting back at one of the culprits for making his house go in ruins. He saw Kyou lounging about in the living area, switching from channel to channel then back to the original show he had been viewing. It was rather obvious that he was pretty pissed. Shigure became pleased that he would have his revenge sooner than he perceived he would.

"Naa, Kyou, you failed to beat Yuki again. What will you do now?" He walked in small steps and made an act as if saying that he was really thinking about what the fate of the other should be. "You should just run away, don't show your face to him anymore or something bad might happen, he might beat you up more until the point where you'd have to beg him to stop." Shigure said, finally arriving at the minor's side. He sat down when he received no response began poking Kyou on the ribs. When he realized that all his prodding and taunting was futile he stopped and settled beside the boy.

"I hate him." Kyou said not bothering to expound on who exactly 'he' was. They both knew it was Yuki. What shocked the man was the fact it was real spite he had heard from the fiery boy.

Looking back, Shigure remembered the possible turning point for Kyou. The boy had actually swallowed his pride one time after a particular brawl to go to Yuki's garden to say an apology. The rat being had said nothing but nodded and let the cat inside his territory. Kyou then picked that time to tell him everything that he had held secret before, especially the one concerning his feelings that had been long harbored inside of him but Yuki cut him off apparently not wanting to hear the rest.

"I hate you. I can't believe you feel that way. I'm disgusted by you." The silver haired boy had said turning his back to the cursed one in his family.

The red eyed boy then felt a pain inside of him spread slowly and suddenly starting from his heart, like the prick of a thousand tiny needles on a single spot, and that pain had made him want to cry then and there but he didn't. He would * not* give Yuki the pleasure of seeing him grovel and finally admit defeat after what he said, so he turned around, faking a laugh and told the other boy, "Now here's something to tell, Shigure! I made Prince Yuki believe in my joke. I never knew I was such a good actor!" He ran back to the house after that not caring if the rat saw the gleam in his eyes from the tears welling up in him.

Shigure now remembered Kyou telling him of this particular incident from before, having walked into a crying cat in his room. He understood the boy's feelings perfectly and stopped his 'uncontrollable' chatter, deciding to lend the boy his shoulder, become a listening ear for him at that moment in time.

He had done so before and did the same for the present and Kyou poured out a thousand and one reasons why he hated the boy named Souma Yuki. When Kyou finally finished bawling over the thousands of reasons why his hate should be directed at his 'perfect' cousin he withdrew from his anger, looked at Shigure in the eye and said, "But I still love him."

Unknown to Kyou and Shigure, Yuki stood right outside of the door to the living area, having come back from his earlier trip. After assuring himself that he wouldn't need to hear anymore from the conversation he went up with careful and quiet steps to his quarters, shut the door as softly as he could and locked it. He slumped to the floor as soon as he was enclosed in the confines of his room, hugging his knees. He hung his head low, murmuring words of apology so softly that one would miss it if ever they were in the same room as him. Tears came down unstoppable and thoughts rushed in as to how to solve this relationship that was doomed from the beginning.

The cat will always chase after the rat but will never get along with the rat. The rat all the same will never get a long with the cat, as he will always runaway not letting the other catch him. This is as he said and no one could go against orders from above, no one could go against Akito.
