Frozen In The Snow
Chapter Seven: Fight Against Fate
By: Demon Priestess Saturn
“Damn it!” Kyo slammed the receiver back down on its holder. It had been two weeks since Kagura told him goodbye and she was still hanging up the phone on him. He sighed heavily and flopped onto the couch. As he stared up at the ceiling he let a frown slip onto his face. He had a strange feeling about today. He felt that something was about to happen. Something bad. He glanced over at the clock and sighed realizing how late it was. Tohru was at work, and for some reason Yuki hadn't come home yet. That and Shigure seemed to have disappear off the face of the earth. Kyo rolled over onto his side his frown deepening. “This is so stupid.” He said to himself as he heard the door open. He jumped up from the couch and looked over at the door. Yuki came slowly into the house limping all the way. “Hey. You okay?”
“Huh?” Yuki looked over at him. “Yeah I'm fine.”
“You scared me. Why did you stay out so late?” Kyo looked at him curiously as Yuki limped over.
“I didn't stay out late.” Yuki sat on the floor next to the table and leaned onto it. “I just walked a little too much today so I took my time getting home.”
“You look like you're in pain.” Kyo jumped out of his spot and disappeared in the kitchen for a moment. He came back a few minutes later with a glass of water and painkillers.
“Yeah I guess that would be a safe guess.” Yuki said sarcastically.
“You're snapping at me. That proves it.” Kyo handed him the painkillers and the glass of water.
“Thanks Kyo.” Yuki sat up and took them from Kyo. He tossed the bills into his mouth and took a drink of water. “Where's Tohru?”
“She's at work remember?” Kyo said calmly.
“Oh…” Yuki felt a little silly. How could he forget that Tohru went to work?
“Do you know where Shigure is?” Kyo asked.
“He left the hospital with Hatori earlier.” Yuki looked at Kyo.
“Oh so he's with Hatori.” Kyo looked at the table. “I wish he would have said something.”
“Did you get a hold of Kagura?” Yuki sat up straight.
“No. She's still hanging up the damn phone on me.” Kyo glared.
“I'm sorry.” Yuki sighed.
“You know I didn't think I could make her that mad. She's avoiding me like the plague and I hate it.” Kyo grumbled. Yuki laid back a crossed the table and closed his eyes halfway. Kyo glanced at him and kneeled down next to him. “You look terrible.”
“I should probably go to bed.” Yuki said but stayed where he was. “But I just don't want to move.”
“Good evening!” Shigure came singing though the door wearing a neatly pressed black suit and tie. “I have good news.”
“What now?” Kyo looked annoyed. Yuki managed to push himself up and looked at his older cousin.
“Akito has agreed to meet with the two of you at the main house.” Shigure smiled.
“What?” Kyo frowned.
“Did he? Good.” Yuki said calmly. Kyo looked over at Yuki and then to Shigure.
“What's going on?” Kyo asked. “Why does Akito want to see me?”
“I told Hatori that you and me needed to talk with Akito so he got us a meeting.” Yuki looked at Kyo.
“Why?” Kyo narrowed his eyes.
“Because… I was trying to help.” Yuki looked down. Kyo blink blankly for a few minutes and wondered.
“Okay.” Kyo didn't know what else to say. “Help me with what?”
“Your situation.” Yuki looked at him.
“Either way he wants to see you both early tomorrow morning so you two better get to bed.” Shigure danced happily out of the room.
“I am so confused.” Kyo shook his head. “Wait you didn't say anything about me and Tohru did you?”
“Do you think I'm insane?” Yuki stood up and looked at him. “I would never get Tohru in trouble like that. I will not stand for Akito abusing her.”
“Then what did you mean about my situation?” Kyo tilted his head to the side.
“It will all get explained tomorrow.” Yuki limped over to the stairs cringing all the way.
“Do you want me to help?” Kyo asked but Yuki shook his head.
“No I'm fine.” Yuki said as he slowly went up the stairs.
“Maybe you should have Hatori look at your back again.” Kyo suggested.
“It's probably just sore.” Yuki replied and continued up the stairs. As soon as he was out of sight Kyo dove for the phone and dialed Kagura's number.
“Hello is Kagura there… This is Kyo…” Kyo glared. “Damn it!” Kyo hung up the phone again and leaned his head back on the couch.
………………….
The next morning Kyo, Tohru, Yuki, and Shigure came walking through the gates to the main house. Yuki was still limping pretty badly and wasn't moving very fast. Tohru was standing next to him fretting about his injury and asking if there was anything she could do to help. Kyo stood on the other side of her smiling at the scene. He thought it was cute when Tohru fretted over the two of them. Shigure who stood in the back started sing-songing his way over to Hatori's house with that stupid smile on his face. As Shigure disappeared over at Hatori's house Yuki, Kyo, and Tohru stood just in front of the main house doors waiting for the two older men to return.
“You sure you can do this Yuki?” Kyo looked over at him.
“Stop worrying about me.” Yuki said as he cringed slightly. “You know Miss Honda you didn't need to come with us.”
“No! I couldn't have you come by yourself. Your back is hurt and you're in pain.” Tohru shook her head. “I couldn't just let you come here like that.”
“Really Tohru I'm just sore.” Yuki smiled slightly at her. Tohru blushed and looked away.
“I still think you should let Hatori look at your back.” Kyo frowned.
“Okay. If it will shut you up I will have Hatori check it.” Yuki sighed and looked back over to Hatori's house.
“Yuki.” A voice came from behind them. The three turned around to see a young woman who was a little shorter than the boys standing there. She stared at them with big cold brown eyes.
“Isuzu? What are you doing here?” Kyo looked confused.
“I live here idiot.” She glared at Kyo and tossed her long black hair over her shoulder. She walked up to Yuki and stared harshly back at him.
“Yes Rin?” Yuki said calmly. Kyo's mouth dropped slightly. Yuki almost never called anyone by a pet name.
“I need to talk to you.” She glared resting her hand on her hip. She wore one of her typical black outfits which consisted of knee high black boots, really short skirts, and a low cut mini t-shirt.
“Now?” Yuki looked surprised. “I can't right now. Akito has requested my presence.”
“Typical for you.” Isuzu glared. “Akito's pet.”
“Knock it off.” Yuki glared suddenly. “I don't have time to argue with you.” Yuki turned away from her. “So if you don't mind Isuzu would you let me get back to saving some of my friends?” Isuzu took a step back. She stared at the rat with a strange look on her face.
“Yuki… I need to know. What happened to Haru?” Isuzu asked calmly. Yuki looked back at her. “I need to talk to you about this alone.”
“Meet me some where later and I will be glad to discuss this with you.” Yuki said calmly.
“What do you mean what happened to Haru?” Kyo raised a brow. “He was hit by a truck what more do you need to know?”
“Rin… I don't know what happened yet. I hope to find the answer to that today. But there are something's I want to talk with you about.” Yuki said as he kept his eyes on her. Isuzu glanced over to see Shigure and Hatori walking up.
“Then don't get hurt while you're in there.” Isuzu said as she turned and started to walk away. “Meet me in the park later this afternoon.”
“Okay.” Yuki said calmly.
“Are you sure you want to do that?” Kyo looked over at him.
“She's really not that bad.” Yuki said calmly. “She just acts like that on purpose.”
“Are we all ready?” Hatori asked as he walked up.
“Yep.” Kyo said as he started to head up the stairs. Tohru followed behind him and helped Yuki up while Hatori and Shigure followed.
“Yuki wait a second.” Hatori said. “Let me looked at your stitches.”
“Okay.” Yuki sighed then stopped to let Hatori look at him.
“I see you have some bad bruising on your back.” Hatori commented as he finished looking at the stitches.
“Well what do you expect when I hit a tree?” Yuki said sarcastically as they entered the main room. As they past the large thin white doors Yuki felt a chill go up his spine. He hugged himself slightly and tried his hardest to forget all the bad things that happened in this place. It was almost hard to believe that it used to be his home. As Yuki glanced around he noticed that the place hadn't changed much in three years. And for some reason it didn't feel like it wasn't his home even though he had long established Shigure's home to be his home. At the corner of his eyes he caught a glimpse of red. He turned his head and looked down the hall to see a tall man staring back at him with small red eyes. He looked at Yuki with a distant sad stare. Yuki stopped in his place and stared him in the eyes. The man smiled back and him and tilted his head to the side letting his short red hair fall to the side. He smiled slightly back at Yuki and his eyes softened. Yuki blinked several times and felt a pang of guilt as he raised his hand and slowly waved at the man. The man returned the wave and turned to walk down the hall. His attire was the same as always with his loose button down t-shirt and black pants with leather shoes. Yuki hadn't spoken much with him since almost four years ago.
“Hey!” Kyo shouted back at Yuki.
“Huh?” Yuki looked over at him.
“We don't want to keep Akito waiting. You know how he gets. Come on.” Kyo folded his arms.
“I'm coming.” Yuki said as he glanced back down the hall one last time before following the others through another set of large white doors. Yuki was almost hesitant to walk through those doors this room never had good memories around it. As they walked in Hatori closed the door behind them Yuki knew there was no turning back, but why was he suddenly afraid? He wasn't afraid when they were in Shigure's house. Why was this place different? Kyo glanced at Yuki suddenly trying to figure out what to do he had never had a formal meeting with Akito in the main house before. Yuki stepped up beside him and had him follow his lead as they sat on their knees on the tan hard wood floor. Tohru sat right behind them while Shigure and Hatori took their place in the back. Yuki looked forward and said nothing as he kept a stern look on his face. Kyo noted this movement and also noted that Tohru, Shigure, and Hatori had done the same. Kyo looked forward and stared at the wall in front of him trying not to look at Akito, who was laying on the floor off to the side with his back to them. Akito was staring out at the grounds from his spot through another set of open paper doors. For the longest time it was silent in the room, which made Kyo very uneasy. Finally Akito pushed himself up and turned to them. He walked in front of both Kyo and Yuki and sat down in front of them.
“So tell me cat. Why have you requested my attention?” Akito glared harshly at Kyo. Kyo glanced over at Yuki who was still staring in front of him with a determined look on his face. As he glanced back at Akito's cold stare he found himself pressed to answer the question he didn't have an answer for.
“I…” Kyo began to speak but soon found he could not come up with an answer.
“If I may Akito allow me to answer the question. I was after all the one who requested this meeting.” Yuki spoke suddenly.
“You requested this meeting?” Akito looked curiously at over at the rat and was surprised as Yuki met his stare without a hint of fear. “Then why did Hatori say that it was both you an Kyo?”
“Because this concerns Kyo and I asked Hatori to make sure that he was included.” Yuki answered. Akito narrowed his black eyes and a hint of anger flashed in the back of his black orbs.
“Then why was this meeting requested? Yuki?” Akito said coldly.
“Kyo has beaten me in a one on one fight. Fair and square.” Yuki eyes Akito. Kyo gasped and looked back at Akito. Akito eyes met Kyo's shocked eyes and he glared.
“Is this true?” Akito stared at Kyo.
“Yes. I beat Yuki.” Kyo looked determined. He now knew what he needed to do. “Tohru, Shigure, and Hatori can vouch for that.”
“Is that so.” Akito looked at Tohru who nodded slowly. He glanced at both Shigure and Hatori who both nodded as well. “So why did you feel the need to tell me?”
“Because you said once I beat Yuki that I could have my life back and become part of the family. Well I beat Yuki.” Kyo said firmly. Akito laughed and stood up slowly. He turned his back to them and reached up to let his little white bird land on his long fingers.
“You took me seriously Kyo?” Akito said coldly. Kyo frowned and felt and pain in his heart. He shouldn't have gotten his hopes up. Kyo looked at the floor and almost wanted to cry.
“W…What?” Kyo heard Yuki's pained voice. Kyo quickly looked over at the rat. Yuki had one hand on his chest and looked like he had been stabbed in the chest. Akito turned slowly and look at him with an expressionless face. “You can't mean that? He beat me! You said he would be freed.”
“Well…” Akito smiled. “I lied. You of all people should know that I never keep my word. I always change my mind about everything.”
“Yes only when it suits you.” Yuki snapped and was now on one foot. Akito glared harshly at him.
“Don't back talk to me. Or perhaps I need to teach you your place.” Akito tried to stare Yuki down.
“How can you take back your word? Then everything I did was for nothing…” Yuki stood up. Kyo stared strangely back at Yuki and tried to figure out what was going on.
“Because I'm god.” Akito snapped. Yuki fought with himself to control his emotions but he soon found out that all his feelings were going to come out whether he liked it or not. “Besides… I know you. You are a much better fighter than Kyo could ever be. I've seen both of your skills. The only way that cat could have won is if you threw the fight.”
“So what if I did.” Yuki snapped and glared coldly at Akito. “It apparently wouldn't have mattered just like everyone else's lives.”
“Yuki calm down.” Kyo stood up.
“No! Akito you know why I came here today? I came here because I have so many unanswered questions running around in my head. So tell me. What happened to Haru the day of his accident? Why does Rin have a large scar on her back? Why did Hiro avoid Kisa even though he knew she couldn't stand up for herself yet? Why was Kisa's arm broken? Why did Hatori lose his eye? Where is the girl he used to be with? Why is Kureno still locked up in this house like a caged bird? Why does Kyo have to spend the rest of his life in isolation? Why did you do what you did to me?” Yuki stared at Akito. “Why?”
“You are out of place rat.” Akito said coldly.
“It was all because of you wasn't it? Me and Kureno weren't the only ones you were abusing were we?” Yuki stared at Akito. Tohru gasped and covered her mouth. “Why don't you say anything?”
“Abusing? You call my ruling abuse.” Akito said angrily.
“So then it's true? You were involved?” Yuki snapped.
“You are out of line.” Akito stepped forward.
“Why are you avoiding my question?” Yuki eyed him. Akito stopped in front of him and had the look of a madman on his face.
“How dare you!” Akito backhanded him. Yuki fell onto his side and screamed out slightly.
“Yuki!” Kyo ran to his side and cradled him in his arms.
“Don't you dare disobey me like Haru!” Akito yelled. “Or I will have to punish you as I did him!”
“Akito.” Shigure grabbed his arm.
“I will not tolerate disobedience. And you!” Akito glared at Tohru. “It must be your fault.”
“No!” Yuki yelled and tried to push himself up but Kyo didn't let him move. “Tohru had nothing to do with this. I'm the one who standing up to you. Don't take it out on her.”
“I don't believe this… It's always the girls that turn you all against me.” Akito glared at Shigure and Hatori.
“Akito.” Shigure glared at him. Akito looked furiously at Shigure and then he seemed to calm himself. He pulled his arm forcefully away from Shigure's grip and stared at Yuki and Kyo.
“My word is rule. When you turn eighteen Kyo you shall take you place in life as the other cats did before you. You will be locked in isolation because that is how things are done. And no one shall disagree with me or they will face a severe punishment.” Akito glared at both Kyo and Yuki. “That is my rule. This meeting is dismissed.” Akito turned and stalked out of the room.
“Then it was for nothing.” Yuki whispered to himself and stared at the ground. He cringed slightly and Kyo grabbed him before he fell over.
“You okay?” Kyo looked at him. Yuki only shook his head and said nothing. Hatori quickly walked over and checked his stitches. Shaking his head he looked back at Kyo.
“Help me take him over to my house. Akito ripped open his stitches.” Hatori said calmly.
“Kyo… I'm so sorry… I tried but I screwed it up.” Yuki whispered but wouldn't look at the cat.
“Yuki.” Tohru kneeled down beside them and looked at Yuki with a tearful expression.
“Let's not worry about that right now. You're bleeding.” Kyo helped Yuki up and started to head to the door. Tohru followed behind both Yuki and Kyo and remained quiet. Hatori glanced sadly over to Shigure who nodded solemnly as they both headed out the door themselves.
