His Dying Wish
Chapter 1: A Haunting Nightmare

***

A pained whisper swept across the dark room, carried by the small breeze that entered through the open window. Allowing her head to drop, Tohru decided against listening. She heard the shaky voice that spoke to her from afar but she refused to decipher what it was saying. Tears seeped from her shut eyes and trickled down her cheeks. She didn't want to hear... his dying words.

Suddenly the world shifted and Tohru found herself laying peacefully in her bed. Her eyes shot open and she immediately brought her hands up in front of her face. No blood; nothing. She released a short breath of relief but still she was shaking all over. The sun peeked into her room from behind the curtains, eager to spread it's radiant beams.

Tohru, however, wasn't ready to start her day just yet. Her dreams, no her nightmares, were getting worse by the night. They always featured the same person... but she could never remember who he was when she woke. His face was always a blur. His voice became nothing but a distant murmur when she thought back. He was a mere silhouette who dwelled in her subconcious.

"Hey!" A loud bang on the door startled Tohru from her stupor, "You up yet? I'm starving! Aren't you gonna make breakfast?"

"Oh." Tohru jumped out of bed and hurried to her window. She tied the curtains back and allowed the sunlight to flood her bedroom. She then turned and called out, "Yes, coming!"

She heard Kyo's indecipherable mumbling and his departing footsteps. Releasing a sigh, Tohru found her clothes and changed quickly. She had gotten out of bed a bit later then usual. She would have to hurry and make breakfast for the guys. She was hoping to go to Hana's house that afternoon and of course that meant she would need to bring some snacks.

When she finally got downstairs she found that Shigure and Kyo were waiting hungrily at the table. She figured Yuki was still in bed... he was always a bit late to rise. She entered the kitchen and began her quick meal.

When she came back into the dining room she found that Yuki was just coming down the stairs somnambulantly, his eyes half-lidded.

"Good morning." Tohru greeted in a singsong, "How was your sleep?"

Yuki responded with the usual nod and Kyo just shrugged, his face cradled in his palms.

With a smile, Tohru served breakfast and proudly watched as the three men before her devoured it. She, herself, had a good portion before hurrying back upstairs to get ready. She had asked Shigure before if it would be alright that she take the day off. She hadn't visited with Hana in a long time and Uo would be there too.

But suddenly there was a knock on the door. Tohru heard even from her bedroom as she was just slipping into her shoes. She stood up, intent on answering, but gathered through the sounds from downstairs that Shigure had already done so. When her name was called, Tohru grabbed her things and hurried downstairs to see what was needed of her. To her surprise she found Hatori, not accompanied by Momiji, standing in the doorway. Shigure stood at the foot of the stairs with a sheepish grin on his face.

"Tohru, turns out Hatori wants to talk to you." Shigure stated.

"Oh!' Tohru said with a smile, "Hello. How are you? Please come in."

"No, that's quite alright." Hatori began, "I'm fine right where I am. It will only be a second."

"Oh." Tohru glanced at Shigure, unsure of what Hatori's sudden arrival might be regarding. He seemed to be very serious about whatever it was that brought him here. Reluctantly Tohru approached the front door and stepped outside.

"It seems that Akito would like to have a word with you." Hatori finally explained, "He asked that I come by here and tell you."

"I see." Tohru said, drinking in this information. She was in utter shock. She hadn't seen Akito for over a month; not since that time...

"I'm not quite sure why he feels the need to speak with you." Hatori admitted, "If you come with me, I'll take you down there now."

"Oh, but..." Tohru glanced down at the basket of goodies she was holding at her hip.

"Tohru had plans for today." Shigure intervened, "Can't Akito wait?"

"Well..." Hatori sighed, "I'm sure he wouldn't mind if Tohru came another day but... I don't think he has much time these days."

A knowing look was exchanged between Hatori and Shigure and Tohru felt a sharp pain in her chest. Had Hatori been indicating...?

"If it doesn't take too long then..." Tohru began softly, "I'll go, I guess."

Hatori's concerned eyes met her own, "Thank you."
