I do not own fruits basket. You are stupid if you think I do. Go ahead and sue me, the nameless writer of this story.

I exited the schoolyard gate with Him and four of his family members. I set my stuff down on the sidewalk and noticed that my purse had gone missing. Turning around to face the other five, I confronted them.
“Where's my purse?!” I demanded, glaring at each one of them in turn. Every face I looked at gave me a we-don't-know-what-you're-talking-about look.
“Guys, seriously, I want my purse!” I looked at Him. He smiled one of his rare, genuine smiles and ran off down the sidewalk. I took off after him, catching up easily, completely pissed off. I glared at him as we walked back to where the others were.
“Ya' know, this was slightly funny a moment ago but now, I'm just pissed.” His only response was to smile knowingly at me and continue walking. I glanced back up at Him quickly when I noticed that my purse was sitting with the rest of my belongings and walked over to check that everything was there. My eyes lit on the foreign piece of folded paper that sat with the rest of my personally valuable things. I unfolded it carefully so as not to rip it. My curiosity was caught when I saw His neat handwriting.
The writing said:
He looked down at the gloved hand covering his own. Him and his bride-to-be stood before the altar while a good 200 people sat witness to their joining. He sighed, not looking forward to the feast and greetings afterwards.
“I do.” He said, smiling inwardly as he remembered how, in the beginning, him and his future wife had wanted nothing to do with each other. But both their fathers had insisted. His family needed the money, her family needed the prestige. He had been outraged. But as they had gotten to know each other in the time between the agreement and the wedding, the rage had diminished to acceptance.
He watched her beautiful face as she pledged her heart and body to him, remembering his awe when he had first seen her coming down the aisle in her simple elegance. He knew he didn't love her, no this was just a physical attraction, something that would make tonight's duties all the more easier.
But as he bent to kiss her at the closing of the ceremony, he felt a difference in the attraction. And when his heart jumped as their lips met, he knew that those first seeds of love had been planted in both their hearts.
I refolded the paper and put it back in my purse. As I got up from where I had been kneeling on the ground I looked at Him. And as I started to ask him what the paper was about…..
The sound of an alarm blaring through the night cut off those last words. And, almost inaudibly, one word was mumbled as the still half-asleep girl made the noise end and rolled back over.

We exited the schoolyard, my four other family members talking incessantly. I watched as She set her things on the ground and turned to look at us.
“Where is my purse?!” She demanded glaring around the semi-circle of us. We each gave her blank looks, each one of us feigning innocence.
“Guys, give me my purse!” She demanded her face showing the growing anger that she felt. I smiled at her, genuinely and pelted down the sidewalk, away from the rest of our group. I was to be the diversion so that she couldn't direct her anger at any one of us. She caught up to me quickly, my health not being as great as other boys my age.
“Ya know, this was slightly funny a moment ago, but now its just pissing me off.” She said as the two of us walked back towards where the others were waiting. She saw her purse and ran right to it, checking for every one of her belongings.
I felt my heart skip a beat when she saw the paper. I was terrified that she would reject my feelings toward her or that she wouldn't understand what was written on the paper. I watched her face as she read, disappointed that it betrayed nothing to me.
She got up to face me, putting the paper away and I released the breath that I hadn't know I'd been holding when I was, yes confusion, but acceptance as well on her face….
The first rays of light hit the face of the man, only waking him enough for him to turn over in the bed and block out the light, falling back into a peaceful sleep. And as the darkness of sleep overtook him he incoherently muttered, reverently, one word.
“Amy.”
