When she was four years old, her kiss was sweet. Simple. Laughing, she tilted her head back and puckered her lips, begging for a kiss that he was more than happy to give. A brief touch of soft dampness, childishly wet and sloppy, and they resumed their walk through the garden, she trying gracefully to keep up with his longer strides while he grasped her tiny hand protectively.

When he was released from the curse of the Bird, her kiss was different. Vulnerable. He tasted saline pain on her lips, which were still damp from the endless flow of wanton tears that made his heart twist painfully in his chest. The soft flesh trembled underneath his mouth, barely returning the tender pressure of his endless devotion, his pledge of servitude. He drank in her love, her agony, her weakness, all in the space of one breath, one kiss.

When she was fifteen, her kiss was seductive. Intoxicating. Lips, soft and full, satiny like the petals of a rose, whispering against his mouth like the breath of a succubus. The hot, liquid slide of her tongue spoke of her desire, her need for him. He couldn't deny her, not when she bared herself to him, not when her small breasts were tender and soft beneath his hands, not when he could feel the heat between her legs, aching for him to savor the ripeness of her body. Outside, the garden sighed with the bliss of a warm, summer night while in her bedroom, he made love to her for the first time, treating her with the same tenderness he always had, pleasuring the delicate parts that she hid from everyone but him.

When she kissed him afterwards, it was ardent and loving, full of a deep, unspoken gratitude he thought the madness had stolen from her, a gratitude that made his heart swell with emotion. He returned her kiss, and wept.

Simple. Vulnerable. Intoxicating.
