Lift Me Up

The eyes

They stare at me

From high places.

 

Eyes of people

Who look down upon

Those scum of lower stations

Scum like me.

 

I can always feel them

Jeering

Laughing

In their silent smug way.

 

We were born

Into the lower end

To reach the higher end

Would take a lifetime

Or so I thought.

 

Then you came along

You lift me up

To higher places

I can breathe the air.

 

You show me ways

I never knew of

Ways to be kind

Ways to help

Ways to live.

 

Now I am up

In higher places

But I do not

Join those born here

In mocking those lower

For I was born lower

In there is my kin.

 

I will swear

To help my people

Reach the higher places

Not be taunted

But be respected.

 

I will help them

For deep down

I am one of them.

 

The only difference is

I was lifted up.

 

A/N: Is Kyou growing up? Slight AU, I know, but when I wrote this I didn't really have Kyou and Shishou in mind. I just realized later that it fit. Shishou really is great, and I just needed to recognize how much he helped Kyou.
