Something was array. Shigure knew it before he arrived home, and his suspicions were confirmed the second he walked up to the porch. Every light was burning in the house and the front door was left open. Scanning the air he quickly deduced no one was home. He turned and headed into the woods.
`Where is he? Oh, please be O.K.' Tohru thought. Worry streamed across her face, matching her tears and the rain. She coughed.
“That damn rat will be fine.”
Tohru nodded. “I was so sure he'd be here.' She sat down in front of the base, picking nervously at the mud. She coughed again.
“You need to get back to the house,” Kyo commented, “you're going to get a nasty fever.” Kyo slumped into the mud, placing his hand on her back.
“No you go back, I know how you get on rainy days. I'll keep looking.”
“Don't be ridiculous, I'm not leaving you by yourself.”
They heard footsteps in the mud.
“Yuki?” Tohru called, her voice filled with hope.
A dark figure stepped into the clearing. “What's going on?” Asked Shigure.
Through her tears, Tohru recounted the story, leaving out one important detail.
“Why would Yuki go out in the rain?” He asked.
Tohru cried harder.
Kyo filled in. :”I don't know, he's been acting weird all day. Stupid Rat.” He hoped his lie would ease Tohru's guilt. How dare he make her cry!
“Go back home.” Shigure ordered.
“I want to help you look.” Tohru sputtered.
“Go home, now!” He barked.
His eyes were not jovially twinkling. Tohru knew something was terribly wrong.
Kyo supported her, and walked her back to the house. Once in the door they both collapsed, Tohru into puddles of tears.
The last week had been marvelous. She knew he would find out sooner or later, she just wished she could have told him instead of him finding out like that. Kyo had been taking a sunbath on the roof, napping sweetly.
“Dinner, Kyo. . . Kyo?'
He rolled over, their eyes locking. Tohru had never seen Kyo through those eyes before. It was like suddenly her heart went into overdrive. Kyo smiled at her. She knew that beautifully awkward smile, but when did it start making her want to faint? The air was electrified as they stared into the other's eyes. She had been standing so far away from him. Never had she been so aware of the distance between them. She wanted it gone. She had felt this way with Yuki before, but it always went unrequited. She never saw desire staring back at her. She never wanted anything more than Kyo. Suddenly there wasn't a distance between them. Suddenly, she found herself melting into Kyo's arms. Locked into a deep gaze they shared their first kiss. His eyes darted from her lips to her eyes before he kissed her. Slowly, softly. She parted her lips. His tongue shyly grazed hers. Heat began to emanate from her core. She ached for Kyo's touch. He pulled away.
She blushed. “Dinner's ready.”
She had been so uncomfortable at dinner. She kept wanting to glance Kyo's way, but was afraid to trip off Shigure's romance sensors. The whole night was awkward. It was as if no one spoke all evening. They went to bed without speaking of their encounter on the roof. Tohru thought she was going to explode. She couldn't sleep.
She paced back and forth across the living room floor. Finally, she flopped exhausted onto the couch. No sooner had she settled down than someone crept down the stairs. The light clicked on in the kitchen. Tohru could see Kyo fumbling around in the refrigerator. Her stomach did a flip. She swore he could hear her heart beating from the other room. Kyo walked out of the kitchen with a glass of milk. He was suddenly aware that someone was in the room. He jumped.
“GAH!” He screamed.
Tohru giggled as Kyo's hair stood on end.
“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING DOWN HERE!?!”
“Kyo, shhhh! People are trying to sleep!” She pleaded.
“Oh right.” He sat next to her on the couch.
He was so close to her. His scent wafted across her. She sighed.
“What's wrong?” He asked.
“Nothing, nothing, I'm um. . . tired.”
“Go to bed!”
“I guess I will.” She blushed. `Well obviously the little episode on the roof was either in my imagination, or we just got too caught up in the moment.'
As she stood to leave, Kyo wrapped his arms around her waist. Her stomach fluttered. He pulled her onto his lap. He showered her neck in kisses, tracing her collarbone with his lips. Tohru sighed. She turned around to meet his kiss. They were lost in each other's kisses.
Tohru felt a hand grazing her back. She snapped back to reality.
“Are you going to be O.K.?” Kyo's voice was full of concern.
Tohru nodded and turned to face him.
“Listen, Yuki's been mad at me all day,” Kyo lied, “I don't think he was really upset about us.”
“Really?” She asked.
“Yeah, so don't feel guilty or anything.”
“He has been acting like something's been on his mind. . .” Tohru pondered.
Kyo brushed her sopping hair out of her eyes. He pulled her in for a delicious kiss. Their tongues tangoed; Tohru sighed softly into his mouth. He rolled over on top of her, his pelvis pushing into hers. Her organs contracted, heating her every ounce. He nipped her shoulder and moaned, pulling away from her.
“Let's get you upstairs and dry before you get sick. We can continue this later.”
Tohru nodded and stood, stretching. She was looking forward to hot bath. She was on her way upstairs when Shigure burst through the door.
“SOMEONE CALL HATORI! QUICK!”
