Chapter 1
It's not often that people actually move into Monaco. The microstate is famous for it's gambling, and tourism. But not too many people wish to actually live there. So, the newest residence to the tiny place was a big deal to the other, few, inhabitants. One Shigure Sohma was especially excited. He'd moved here years earlier, away from his wretched family. And now his very best friend was coming to join him.
Excited might be an understatement.
Said best friend, and cousin, Hatori Sohma was also quite pleased with the change in location. There were plenty of easier things than trying to get permission from their family to leave not only town, but also the country and continent all together. Still, he'd somehow managed to attain aforementioned permission, and was now on his way. He was quite interested to know what this surprise of Shigure's was too.
Yes, that surprise was currently pressed into a lovely dress as the writer led the way through the crowded dock. They were almost to the boat Hatori would be getting off of now, but it was slow going avoiding all those people and keeping the surprise from tripping on it’s own skirt.
"Haa-san!" Shigure called with a grin when he finally spotted both the boat and doctor. Hatori blinked over at them when he heard his cousin's call, and sweat dropped when he saw the silver haired, skirted, pale creature beside him. The surprise was a girl? He moved a bit quicker in getting off the boat to go meet them, and find out exactly what was going on.
Upon his approach, Gure was kind enough to introduce them. "Aaya, this is Hatori-san, and Haa-san, this is Aaya." The obviously younger creature smiled brightly at the doctor.
"’H’-ello, ‘atori-san." Came the heavily accented purr. Hatori blinked once again. He was a little surprised that the girl knew Japanese at all, but he supposed Shigure would have taught her a little. He murmured a polite greeting to her, before turning to Shigure and greeting him in a slightly more animated fashion. No matter how happy he was to see his friend, he wasn't exactly what you might call an enthusiastic person to begin with. The amber-eyed member of the group waited politely while the two friends spoke. But suddenly she tugged anxiously at Shigure's sleeve. He turned and listened as she spoke. 'Il doit être fatigué? Nous allons à la maison?'
"Yes, yes, dear." The brunette nodded with a smile and gestured to Hatori. "Come, the house would be a much better place for this." Hatori nodded in agreement, and made a quick note to try and learn French, following them wordlessly and without argument. Shigure had a nice house that was a little ways outside of the main town. Once they had unlocked the front door the man kissed the girl’s cheek and murmured something to her. 'Vous allez changement vos vêtements.' She cast a wary glance at Hatori before heading on up the narrow stairs.
"Welcome!" Gure quickly turned back to his guest with a smile before ushering him over into a chair. Wouldn't do to have his guest uncomfortable would it?
"Shigure," He spoke slowly, softly. "Who is she?" He asked, nodding after the girl, Aaya.
His friend snickered for a moment. "My adorable little housewife."
He frowned a bit, and cocked his head. "You got married?"
"Why, yes I did." Shigure confirmed.
"Well," Hatori blinked, yet again. "Congratulations she's very pretty." He commented softly. And, indeed, 'pretty' was probably an understatement. Aaya was probably the most beautiful woman he'd ever met. Not that he could tell Shigure that. There were certain boundaries you just don't cross.
"Ah yes, I'm sure Aaya would be very flattered to hear that as well." The shorter man grinned with amusement and turned when he heard his wife's footsteps on the stairs again. The silver haired beauty had changed into pants and a loose shirt now and tied the long strands of webbing back.
"Gure, avez-vous et ‘atori-san faim?" That was the first time Hatori heard Aaya speak above a gentle whisper.
"Ayame, you know Haa-san doesn't speak French, and you could stand to practice your Japanese!" Shigure replied, watching Hatori out of the corner of his eye for a reaction. It took Hatori about thirty seconds, before it fully registered to him what he was seeing.
"She's a man," He stated finally in a dry tone. He didn't seem the least bit upset, though he did question Shigure on the legality of their union.
The younger man came over by his husband and frowned. "Était il bon pour le montrer?" He wondered into the man's ear.
"Aaya, shh, you." The brunette admonished with a small smile. "Of course Haa-san can know. And," he finally began to answer his friend's question. "It's sort of legal." The papers were signed and the church acknowledged them. They just thought Ayame was a woman.
"Sort of legal, indeed." Hatori sighed in that same dry tone. "You never change." He added, under his breath, though the amused look on his face betrayed his supposedly annoyed tone.
"No one will ever be the wiser, Aaya makes a very good woman." Shigure assured him, and Ayame hissed something irritably at him. 'Je vous montrerai qui est une femme'. The brunette sweat dropped and was forced to apologize. Aaya rolled his eyes and looked to Hatori.
"Are you hungry, ‘atori-san?" He asked, his French accent still sticking heavily to his words. But to offer food to his husband and guest had been the main reason he'd come down here to begin with.
"Oh," Hatori blinked back to reality, all too aware that he'd been dangerously close to staring. "A little." He admitted, with a small, grateful bow. The young man brightened a bit, now that the initial pressure of meeting his husband’s best friend was off.
"I will return with drinks for you two soon." He murmured before walking off, the ends of his long ponytail swaying with his walk. Shigure smiled fondly after him before proceeding to ask Hatori about his trip over and other such pleasantries. Hatori answered all his questions in a flawlessly nonchalant manner. He wasn't a child, he knew what he was feeling when he looked at Ayame. That didn't mean he had to like it, though. It wasn’t good to feel such things for another man's wife. His best friend's MALE wife, nonetheless. He just considered himself lucky that he was managing to hide it without any trouble. The last thing he wanted was to upset his long time friendship with Shigure over something such as a, most likely trivial, crush.
The fair beauty returned with drinks, and later returned again to call them into the other room to eat. When he wasn't worried about being snitched on and lynched for being married to a man, he was a rather pleasant and talkative creature. He still played his housewife role rather well despite that though. Of course, he wasn't the easiest conversationalist to follow either. When he got too excited, Ayame tended to lapse into French and start speaking that rapidly--which Hatori didn't speak a word of. And, even when he remembered to speak in Japanese, his accent made it difficult to understand him in that language too. He tried very hard for his beloved's best friend though. Okay, actually, Shigure assisted. Murmuring little phrases that Aaya didn't know, or simply offering a translation of what his excitable husband was saying.
"Where, is ‘atori-san staying?" He finally wondered, blinking interestedly at the other two men. Shigure hadn't told him Hatori was coming, just like he hadn't mentioned to Hatori he was married. The brunette had wanted it to be a surprise. Or something?
"Inn." Hatori replied simply to his question, before taking a small sip of tea. "Until I can find a house and get settled." He added, as an after thought almost.
"No, no." Aaya purred out carefully. "’Gure, you are making your friend stay at an inn? The nice ones are far too much money, and the other ones are not safe." The young man wasn't used to be married into a rich family yet. "We ‘ave room here."
Now Shigure just needed to clean up his heavily accented speech.
"He says the inns around here are too expensive and the cheap ones aren't safe." He looked over to the doctor. "And that we have room here."
Hatori eyed him for a moment, before murmuring out the predictable "I couldn't impose." Only, unlike with most people, Hatori actually meant it.
"Aaya, dear." Shigure crooned and pulled the boy to him. "He's stubborn and polite, he won't stay here. Besides, Akito-san will be paying for it, and it's always nice to steal some of his money."
"Toute votre famille est-elle têtue?" Ayame wondered frowning.
"Yes dear, we are all very stubborn." His husband confirmed laughing.
Under much insistence from Ayame, Hatori agreed to at least leave his bags there while he went to find an inn, rather than dragging them all over town with him. Unfortunately, for him at least, all the inns were full. So, he ended up back at Shigure's, whether he wanted to be or not. He still made sure to assure them both that he'd be out of their way AS SOON as he found a house and purchased it. Aaya looked relieved and smiled. Then he went gracefully up the stairs to get the room ready for his guest.
"Hmm, at least now I'm not in trouble with my wife for not trying harder to make you stay here." Shigure commented with a chuckle.
"Hm," Hatori shrugged, not appearing too worried. "It would have been fun to spend a large amount of Akito's money, though."
"Isn't that what you're buying the house with?" His friend countered with, grinning.
"Like it's possible to get a day job and earn any of your own money in that family." He rolled his eyes tiredly. Well, at least he was out.
"Welcome to the glories of Monaco!" The shorter brunette snickered. "There are enough drunkard brawls to keep a doctor living nicely forever!"
Hatori snorted and offered his cousin a soft smile. "Perfect."
Ayame bounced back down the stairs a little later, telling Shigure, in French, that the room was ready whenever the two of them were ready to sleep. He also said he was getting up earlier to go shopping, asked if they needed anything else and if not, he was going to go to sleep. His husband summarized all this to the doctor, mostly skipping to the 'do you need anything else? And good night'. Hatori declined the offer for anything else, thanked him once more, bid him good night, and went back to catching up with Shigure for a while longer.
"So," Hatori addressed Shigure after a moment. "How long have you two been together?"
"Hmm," His friend began to mull that over. "Almost two years now?" He sweat dropped, that sounded bad. He'd been married for almost two years and had neglected to tell his best friend about it?
"And you just forgot to mention it in your letters?"
"If you'd like to put it that way." Shigure offered with a thin chuckle.
Hatori just shook his head. "You're lucky." He murmured softly. "Where'd you meet him?"
"Lyon." The brunette murmured. "I was there with my, ah, editor. Who sells the things I write to the people who can actually afford them." He really was very fond of his Aaya.
Hatori listened silently, before smiling at him. "You're lucky." He repeated.
"I know it. He's wonderful and without him I'd probably be not only lonely but poor." Shigure snorted.
"Poor?" He raised an eyebrow at him. Hatori had known Shigure for a long time, and he'd never been poor.
"This town is famous for gambling, Haa-san." The other man grinned. "And apparently, I'm not very good at it."
"You've tried, I take it?" He sighed dryly. No, Shigure never would change.
"Yes, yes." Shigure nodded. "But my lovely wife with his amazingly tight purse strings has put a stop to that."
"You had to get married to stop gambling," He translated with an odd look.
"They're not that connected. I married him for the usual reasons people get married, and then his disapproval of me losing money and his persuasion skills, halted the gambling." Shigure laughed. "He was quite poor before we got married, so losing money is rather unforgivable in his eyes."
"He's a smart boy, then." Hatori commented, eyebrows rather high by this point.
"He is! He has the most amazing scheme too. First he takes you on as a student to teach you French, for a little extra money. Then he promptly seduces you!" His friend chuckled. "Not that it takes much to be seduced by him."
"That's an interesting technique."
"Isn't it though?" Shigure agreed. "I've been trying to break him of the seducing habit though. Since I am rather fond of him." The brunette could never admit to being in love, but that was probably close.
"He still does it?" Hatori raised an eyebrow to that one.
"Come now, Haa-san." His friend looked at him dryly. "You said it yourself. He's very pretty. He doesn't have to do it, the dresses he wears in public do it all by themselves."
"Does he wear them on his own, or do you have him do it?"
"It was my idea, but he does it on his own." The brunette told him. "We didn't think being lynched by the town people would be a good thing."
"Probably not." He agreed with a small smile. "Most people tend to think so."
"It's not my fault he's so very pretty." Shigure joked with a smile.
"I never said it was."
Shigure grinned and they continued the conversation until rather late. Finally as they were going to bed, Shigure showed the doctor up to his room and bid him goodnight. He called a little suggestion over his shoulder though.
"If you're up, perhaps you should go shopping with Aaya, he could show you around town." Hatori pondered it for a moment, before nodding. That didn't seem like such a bad idea. They parted ways in the hall, and the writer went to crawl into bed with his lovely husband.
The next morning Ayame had, as he had said, gotten up early and was getting ready for his great morning of shopping. He was already in one of his dresses as he bustled around getting shopping lists, and baskets, and money.
"Ayame," Hatori called to him from the doorway to the kitchen. "Would you mind if I joined you? Shigure said you might be able to show me my way around town a bit."
"’Tori-san!" The H and A were lost in his quick French accent. (H is silent in French) "Oui," He said quickly, but remembered the doctor didn't speak French. So he corrected himself and slowed down what he was saying. "Yes, that would be fine."
"Thank you." He bowed politely to the younger, in way of showing gratitude. The fair thing grinned and checked to make sure he had everything before going in search of his shoes. Apparently he even had to wear feminine shoes, since that was what he ended up putting on.
He was to appear as a respectable lady, being married to such a wealthy foreign man after all.
Hatori cared a lot about Shigure, but it seemed a little mean to ask Ayame to dress like that. Really, what if he didn't want to?
"Do you like dressing like that?" He asked curiously once they were outside the house, and he knew Shigure wouldn't over hear him.
"Hmm?" The pretty thing blinked at him a moment before considering how to answer in Japanese. "’Gure doesn't make me." He murmured shifting the basket on his arm. "I do not mind and I do it so we are both safer."
"I didn't ask if he made you." Hatori pointed out simply. "Just if you liked it."
His best friend's husband eyed him for a moment. "It is not something I do for enjoyment." He finally shrugged neutrally. Hatori let it drop without any more argument. The outfit didn't look very comfortable, but if it kept them out of trouble? It really wasn't his place to get involved. When they got back into town, Ayame set about showing the doctor around. He pointed out a few people that Hatori would be able to communicate basely with, should he get lost. But the younger man made a definite point not to talk to anyone if at all possible. Despite his feminine features, his voice above a soft purr was definitely masculine.
"I should just learn French." Hatori muttered under his breath to himself, a definitely irritated edge to his tone at the prospect of having to learn a new language.
"That can be arranged." Aaya murmured quietly, smiling lightly back at his grumbly shopping mate.
"Hm?" He blinked at the younger, raising an eyebrow at him.
The amber eyed one giggled carefully. "I can teach you Français, 'Tori-san."
"Oh," He nodded, remembering what Shigure had told him the night before. "Well, thank you."
"I would suggest ‘Gure teach you," He mumbled, getting a bit quieter as someone walked by. "But, it was ‘ard enough teaching ‘im French, ‘e'd never be able to teach you."
Hatori just snorted with amusement, "Languages never were his strong point."
They were momentarily halted when an elderly woman approached and began speaking to Ayame. The 'girl' just smiled and nodded as the woman relayed something about church. Yes, to fit into the religious French community they still had to go. It was never a pleasant affair either.
Aaya was put into a momentarily tight spot when the woman looked past her and inquired on the man who was not her husband.
"Il est mon cousin de maris, madame." He explained quietly then to end the conversation right there. "Nous faisions des emplettes. Si vous pourriez nous excuser?" Then he quickly grasped Hatori's hand and gently urged him off. Hatori offered him a curious look, but he didn't actually inquire on what the woman had wanted.
His younger cousin-in-law pointed out a few more places as he finished his shopping. Then he smiled nervously at the doctor and suggested that they return to the house before the streets got too crowded. They could review some of the streets as they went too. If he was going to live here, Hatori was going to have to learn his way around. Hatori agreed, and followed him back. Ayame had more than a pretty face going for him, he realized slowly, the more time he spent with him. He has a nice waist and rear too. But perhaps Hatori means his personality? Either way, Aaya pointed out the most important landmarks as they made their way back out towards the edge of town. Once they were safely back at the house, opening the door, the silver haired beauty smiled at him.
"Thank you for the company, 'Tori-san." It kept some of the usual leers, that he got while alone, at bay. "As a reward, I will teach you something useful." He giggled as they came in. "If someone comes to talk to you, tell them 'Je ne parle pas Français'."
Hatori frowned a little. "What's it mean?" he wanted to know.
"I can not speak French." Ayame smiled as he headed off for the kitchen to take care of the things he'd just bought. His adoring husband was waiting in there for him though. Shigure stole his basket and set it aside while he pulled the younger man to him to kiss him. He'd left before he'd woken up! So Ayame apparently owed Shigure a good morning kiss.
"But, that WOULD be speaking French!" Hatori protested, calling after him, though he didn't follow, and simply went back up to the guest room to take care of a few things. Aaya giggled as he kissed his husband back. He'd heard Hatori, and it was amusing. Gure finally released him to allow him to put away what he'd bought, and Ayame also informed him they would have to go to church. There was a psuedo argument going on about it a short while later too. There wasn't any yelling but plenty of frowning and disagreeing.
The business Hatori had been wishing to tend to was making sure that none of the medical equipment he'd brought over from Japan with him had broken on the ship ride. He busied himself with that for a while, until he was sure that Shigure and Ayame would be finished with whatever it was they were doing downstairs, and he felt it wouldn't be rude to go back downstairs again.
Quite done with that, yes. But now the pretty thing was hissing irritably at his husband in French. The brunette just frowned and replied, causing Ayame more annoyance, but then he heard his guest on the stairs.
"Nous devons présenter Tori-san." He finally said smugly. Which caused Shigure some anguish, but he just went to talk to Hatori and see if Ayame had done a good job of showing him around town.
"Oh, yes." Hatori confirmed with a small nod. "He did a wonderful job."
"Good, I suppose you wouldn't have gotten to meet to many people." His cousin sighed with a small smile. "Well, Ayame thinks you should go to church with us so we can introduce you." Why beat around the bush?
"To church?" Hatori repeated slowly. He hadn't been particularly religious back in Japan, but, as a general rule, the Sohmas were Buddhists. Going to a Catholic church seemed like a ridiculous proposal indeed.
"If you expect anyone to like you here you'll have to go." Shigure assured him.
"Well, yeah," Hatori agreed with an odd look. "But to church? A Catholic church?"
"Yes, Haa-san." His friend confirmed.
"Does the term polytheism mean anything?" He wanted to know.
"Not here." Shigure shook his head. "Well except potentially pagan idol worshipper."
"Er, I actually meant to you, but either way." He sighed a bit. "Alright, at least once." He agreed finally.
"Come now Haa-san, you know I'm a godless heathen." His cousin grinned. "And thank you, you save me from getting yelled at by my wife, yet again."
"Oh, dear, have you been a bad boy?" He questioned sarcastically.
"I hate going." Shigure snickered. "But Aaya insists even though it's even harder on him. Perhaps if you're there though, you'll distract their attention and he can just stand safely to the side while I introduce you."
"Mmm, Glorious." He muttered in that same sarcastic tone. He'd need to get some European clothes. He had no money here. He refused to borrow it from, Shigure. It was quite the dilemma.
When 'she' heard of this dilemma, the 'lady' of the house merely blinked and offered to simply make the doctor some clothes.
And was met by a thrown look from, said doctor. "Really?"
"Oui," Aaya nodded.
"That's yes, Aaya." His husband called cheerfully, and was replied with the fairer man sticking his tongue out playfully at him.
"Yes," He corrected himself with a pointed look at Shigure. "It should not take too long." He assured their guest.
"I don't want to put you to any trouble." He insisted, though it was a bit half hearted. He knew by this point that what Ayame wanted, Ayame got. Especially if it was Ayame providing it.
"Not at all." Ayame smiled at him, muttering something under his breath in French.
"Aaya!" Shigure protested his mutterings with a grin. "Come now, you know you enjoy it as much as I do." Hatori offered them both an odd look, but chose not to comment on it. The silver haired man rolled his eyes before requesting Hatori come with him so they could inspect which fabrics he already had, to see if the doctor liked any of them. Measurements would also need to be taken but that could probably wait until tomorrow. Hatori was quite honest when he told Ayame he didn't care what it was made of, as long as it fit correctly, so he could still do his job in it. While not the most active profession, he still didn't want to be in clothes that didn't fit right. Aaya mumbled something excitedly in French as he continued about what he was doing. He liked to sow and he hadn't gotten a legitimate reason to in a long time. When he was satisfied, he grinned at the older man and promised to make him some nice clothes. Shigure would probably go out with Hatori to look for houses to make sure he didn't get lost. So, he would have plenty of time to work on it. Hatori thanked him once again, and offered the silver haired young man one of his rare smiles. His friend's husband set the fabrics and such he'd gotten ready to one side before excusing himself to do the other chores around the house that he needed to get done. Hatori went off to find Shigure and talk with him for a while. He didn't like the way he felt around Ayame. Or, rather, he did, and he didn't like that he did. Still, he was determined to ignore it and not let it make him feel awkward around Shigure, regardless.
The adventure to the church was still a few days off yet, and as promised, while Hatori was out looking for a home, Ayame worked diligently on the clothes the doctor would need. He would need something nice to wear to the church after all.
"Why is your vacancy rate so low?" Hatori asked Shigure a few hours after they'd set out for house hunting. "I mean, sure, it's a small town, but this is ridiculous."
"The houses that are already built are occupied by the people who had them built?" Shigure offered with a shrug. "There's plenty of space to build more houses, if you have the money."
"Plenty." Hatori nodded. "But, none of it valid in this country. Or on this continent, really."
"There's probably at least one house around here somewhere. People don't tend to stay in Monaco too long and just rent homes." His friend assured him.
"What do you propose I buy it with?" Hatori asked idly, wondering if there were any banks near by that would exchange foreign currencies.
"This city is known for gambling, there is a bank that will change your money, Haa-san." The shorter man teased.
Hatori just blinked, feeling amazingly stupid. "I wasn't aware they were used to foreigners." He tried to brush it off, though, that didn't make much sense either, and he let it drop. "Show me where this magic bank is, O Great One." He commanded lightly. Shigure grinned and they changed their current course so they could head off to this 'magic bank'. Hatori felt much more confidant, once he had money that was actually worth something in his new home. And, once again, they set off for more house hunting. In the end, Hatori gave up and ended up having Shigure interoperate with a contractor to just get a new one built.
"There you are, Haa-san!" The man grinned once they had gotten most of the things settled for the day, they would probably have to come back, but it was all right for now. "I hope you don't intend to leave any time soon."
"For where?" He asked, doing a damn good job of hiding the better portion of his confusion, if he did say so himself.
"No where in particular. But that just cost you a bunch of money. So I hope you like Monaco." His friend laughed quietly.
"Even if I didn't, there's a reason I picked this particular French speaking city." He pointed out.
"Oh?" Shigure blinked cluelessly at him. Hatori scowled at him, and promptly whacked his cousin lightly on the back of the head.
"Idiot." He muttered, voice dripping with irritation.
The writer chuckled. "Right, right, sorry, Haa-san!" Hatori just sighed and shook his head. Best friend or otherwise, Shigure certainly could be annoying...
"So you'll be gracing the house with your presence a bit longer?" Shigure looked at him out of the corner of his eye as they walked. "That should make Aaya happy. I'm off to Lyon next week. I expect it's lonely for Aaya." Hatori just shrugged, and bit back the nervous swallow threatening to appear. He had no house, as of yet. And, thus, no choice as to location. Unless a room at the inn had mysteriously opened, but there had been a six-month waiting list when he'd checked before. When they did eventually return to the house, Ayame was busy as usual. He was currently in the kitchen, by the window sowing something while he waiting the proper amount of time for something else to cook.
"Beinvenue," He called out absently when he heard the door. After a kind translation from Shigure, Hatori replied to the greeting, before wandering off upstairs to do something. He didn't have his practice ignited yet, so he had no work. He had no house, so he couldn't unpack. Maybe he'd read a book for a while.
Smart man, considering Shigure went to jump his husband despite the fact that he was cooking just then. Somehow, Ayame managed not to burn the food and came up later to alert his guest of its readiness in that silky, soft, heavily accented purr of his.
Hatori honestly couldn't say he was looking forward to Shigure leaving. The more time he spent with Ayame, the more that feeling grew, and the guiltier he felt about it. Aaya and Shigure just looked so happy together, he wasn't sure he could live with himself if he did something to upset that peace. He was doing an okay job so far. Now that most of the housing business was out of the way and it was just a matter of waiting. The three of them were around each other quite a bit though. Except when Aaya went out into town, usually taking Hatori with. It was during those times that the younger man took to start teaching the doctor practical little phrases that would have immediate use. The rest of the time he was sowing or cooking or cleaning. Or just being a housewife in general. The day before their great adventure to the church he did finally finish those clothes. He proudly brought them to his cousin-in-law and requested he make sure they fit.
Indeed, they did.
"Perfectly." Hatori called out to him through the closed door, as he carefully removed them again, to put them away until the next day. He still wasn't exactly looking forward to it, though.
He should have though, despite being married to a man, Ayame had been brought up religious, like any other good child in France. So he got very dressed up and looked a bit more than just lovely. Even if he was still stuck dressed as a woman. Shigure and Hatori should be proud to be going to church with such a pretty thing. At the little church, Hatori was introduced, and as Shigure had hoped most people left his disguised husband alone. Most did already because Aaya rarely spoke to them, claiming he was just far too shy. But there were some very persistent ant bastards as well. Unfortunately, that left Hatori with a church full of people that he didn't understand and who didn't understand him. Feeling a bit helpless, and more than a little bemused, he just kept repeating that first phrase that Ayame had taught him. Over, and over, and over, until he was really quite sick of the sound of it. Still, they managed to talk to him through Shigure. The amber eyed young 'lady' smiled encouragingly at the taller man from where he had slipped away from the crowd. Hatori didn't have to deal with it for too long, because then the actual church services were beginning and everyone filed off to pay attention.
"You remembered." Ayame giggled quietly to 'Tori when he and Shigure came to sit down.
"You French are a frightening people." He muttered back lowly, actually glad that he couldn't understand the preacher, and thus didn't have to pay attention to a word he said. Aaya smiled brightly and continued to listen to the service. When it was over, Shigure quickly used the excuse: 'I'm leaving for Lyon and will need Aaya's help packing, and since Hatori can't speak French he really must come with us' for all three of them to make their exit together. He hadn’t tried to leave early, since he knew Ayame didn't like how people 'talked' if they didn't go.
"When are you leaving, anyway?" Hatori questioned Shigure once they were outside, cocking his head a bit. He wanted to know how long he'd have his friend there, reminding him not to do something incredibly stupid with Ayame.
"Two days?" His friend offered up. The doctor just nodded, thinking that over. He wasn't some schoolboy, he had the self-control to not do anything to or with his best friend's wife while he was gone, right?
