Fruits Basket Fan Fiction ❯ Shugure's 'High School Girl' ❯ Kyou's Poor Ears ( Chapter 3 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Shigure sat in the murky gloom of his office, the only light from that of his Laptop, the screensaver flashing little hearts and chibi girls in skimpy school outfits. He smiled to himself. He was lucky Yuki or Kyou hadn't seen this latest addition to his Laptop. He didn't think he could take any more hits to he head.

He put down his pen, removed his glasses, and rubbed his eyes. for now it was impossible to focus on the manuscript Mimi wanted him to finish. Things were getting just a little too hectic around for him to concentrate. Even diner was a tense affair.

The looks Kyou had sent Arisa across the table could curdle milk. And for once Arisa hadn't fired back. He wondered what had happened between them. Usually Arisa would be on Kyou, like white on rice. Shigure smiled again. It was such a quaint American saying.
And then when Aya had shown up---All poor Yuki could do was hang his head in shame. That is---until Aya had started to hang all over Hana-san. Yuki's jaw had dropped when his brother had sat down beside Hana.
Aya had taken it into his head that Hana-san was the cutest thing on Earth at the moment, and that he must make her look ravishing. He leaned on her shoulder, telling her how beautiful she would look with a few diamonds and a chiffon ball gown. It was lucky for Aya that Kyou was so angry with Arisa, because Shigure was sure her would have had to call Hatori before the night was over.
He had laughed silently at the indifference Hana had kept eating. She seemed oblivious to Aya's advances. He personally thought that diamonds were too gaudy for her slight form. Maybe a few pearls, and a silver necklace with a Sapphire. He had wondered from where that had come from, and shook the idea away at the time.

At this point though Yuki had almost jumped up and rushed at Aya. Poor Tohru almost had to break up another fight between the two, because Yuki had threatened to fillet Aya alive. But just as Yuki was going to reach over the table and shake Aya, Hana had risen from the table, gathered her dishes, and left the room sliding the door closed behind her.
Everyone had watched silently until she had left, then, a bit embarrassed, went back to eating. All except Kyou, who seemed oblivious to anything that had gone on.
Arisa had risen a moment later, and kicked Kyou in the back of the had as she passed. Kyou had gone face first into his udon, too stunned to do anything but gurgle a threat at the closed wall.

Shigure sighed. I had been a strange diner.

Not that he was complaining.

But sometimes it did get complicated when Tohru's friends came over.

Suddenly his little office seemed small, too confining. Maybe he would go out and enjoy the clear night sky Tohru had been talking about. He rose, stretching his arms high over his head. He retrieved a pack of cigarettes and a lighter from the table and headed for the outer doors of the house. He walked past the low table in the dining room and stopped cold.
Kyou was still face down in his food. Everything else had been cleared away. Yuki had to have been behind this, because Tohru surely would had woken Kyou. She must be fretting terribly.
Shigure shook his head as Kyou mumbled something. He had been beaten good By Arisa this time. Maybe those two would get over this stage, and finally become friends.
He stepped over Kyou's prone form, to slid open the door. He breathed in the light scent of flowers, and for the second time that night, stopped cold.

Hana was sitting out on the engawa. Everything about the night was dark, with the moonlight just barely reaching the stones in the garden. The semi chattered noisily, but even their din seemed subdued by the tranquil night. Hana leaned against one of the wooden beams. She was so still, like just another statue in the garden. Shigure wasn't sure if she was asleep or not.

“Souma-san…”

Shigure leaned lightly against the shoji, tapping the bottom of the cigarette carton on the back of his hand. The girl's voice was so soft he barely heard her. Shigure removed one cigarette, and placed it in his mouth. He took out his lighter, clicking it once, and holding the flame to the tip of the[ death stick] cigarette until it lit. he took a long drag on it before blowing out the blue smoke, savoring the taste of it across his tongue. He flicked the ashes onto the floor, to be swept away later. He ran his hands through his hair, and took another long drag before answering her.

“Hana, aren't you tired? Or have you come to enjoy the night sky?”

“I came because…, I knew you would be here…” Shigure felt his heart jump unexpectedly at her words. “Souma-san, I need to speak with you.”

Shigure waited silently for her to go on. What could be so important that she would need to talk with him privately?

“This afternoon…” her voice still soft as she spoke. Her back facing him. “Ano… I was very disturbed this afternoon. I am not sure what this is I'm feeling, but it does not sit well inside. I'm afraid this might be what is influencing Tohru's sickness.”

Shigure stood up a bit straighter. What could she be saying?

“Tohru has been under a lot of stress lately. She frets about the simplest things, but we love having her here with us. I don't believe anything here could be harming her.” He said smiling at Hana's back.

“Oh, but don't you?” Hana turned facing him, sighting him with a cold stare. In the dark her eyes flashed. Something powerful and strange, that intrigued him more. Hana stood, rising as if she had strings to hold her up. She walked to him, her face set.

“I believe it is exactly what is in this house that is causing her to be sick. Or maybe it is who…” Her voice cut into his pride.

Tohru was perfectly fine staying with him and the boys. Hana didn't know what she was implying. If anything, Tohru was much better off here, than outside in the forest, or with her family right now. Shigure felt his blood heating.
He stood up straight against the papered door, and narrowed his eyes. He dropped the dead butt of his cigarette onto the wooden deck. He shrugged and gave one of his carefree smiles, let Hana think what she wanted. If only she knew the truth.

She took a step closer to him.

“Souma-san, I think Tohru…”

He didn't know what had come over him, but it was like being knocked out with a boulder.

Shigure moved from the doors standing so close to her, he could smell the faint perfume on her body. He looked down into her dark eyes. Nothing could have prepared him for the feelings that hit him. She smelled so nice. And her hair shimmered so slightly with the passing wind, that it seemed to have deep purple highlights. Her skin was so smooth, and soft, almost iridescent in the dark night. He reached out touching a few small strands of her hair.

Hana gasped. This was getting a little too strange for words. She moved back a step, and felt Shigure's hand catch hers. She looked down and his hand holding firmly to hers. His soft, warm, hand. She looked up, right into his gray-blue eyes, and couldn't breathe. She narrowed her eyes, what did he think he was doing. If he was trying to distract her again like this afternoon, he had another thing commin'. Hana let her denpa rise, flicking slowly through her fingers. Not harming, just waiting.

“Souma- san, let go off my hand.” His stoic look unsettled her, but this only served to verify her claims.
If Shigure acted like this around Tohru, even bringing in strange women to the house, it couldn't be tolerated. If she had to, she would bring Tohru to her house. This wasn't good for her. She knew Yuki would be crushed, but if things didn't change, they could get very complicated.

He still hadn't let go off her hand.

“Souma-san…” she tugged her hand but he still wouldn't let go. “Let go of me.”

He stepped closer to her. Her power flickered.

What is he doing?!

“Shigure! Le…” Hana stilled in his grasp, as his lips met hers. He kissed her like a brother would. Just a chaste touch of lips. She stared into his open eyes. He was so close to her, she could smell the faint cologne, and fading scent of the cigarette. He blinked and stepped back from her. It was so quick she almost stumbled as he pulled away.
She closed her eyes and swallowed thickly. She, didn't know what to do. She had just had her first kiss. It had been stolen.

Shigure watched the color drain slowly from her cheeks. He shouldn't have kissed her. What was he thinking?! But it did feel good. Like breathing almost.
He touched his lips, and felt almost giddy. He had a crush on Hana!?

Not good.

He stepped close to her again, catching her faint scent. He meant to apologize. But he never got the chance.

As soon as he opened his mouth, Hana grabbed the collar of his kimono and pulled him closer. Her arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him down, and she raised on her toes, and kissed him.

Shigure almost fell over.

She was kissing him. It was just her lips against his, like before. But the way she'd grabbed him made it all the more intense. Her eyes were lowered, not closed, and her body was pressed against his.
Shigure wrapped his arms around her slim waist puling her even closer. He closed his eyes, letting this all wash over him. He couldn't have been less prepared, if Yuki had said he and his brother had patched things up. It was just that strange.

Hana broke the kiss, laying her head on his shoulder. The soft pressure made him shiver. And it was in no way cold outside.
She stepped out of his loose grasp, and looked up at him.
Her cheeks were flushed, and her eyes were so dark they seemed to bleed into the night.
There was absolutely no fear in her eyes. No regret, no timidity, only sureness, almost eagerness. Shigure breathed out slowly, he was getting worked up over her eyes. It suddenly felt hot outside. Really hot.

“Shigure….” Her voice was deep and soft. His pulse jumped another notch. She didn't know what she was doing to him.

“You didn't expect me to let you steal my first kiss with out trying to get it back.”

Shigure paled. Her first kiss?! What were the kids these days doing!!? He wasn't even a virgin by the time he was her age. No thanks to Ayame, he thought wickedly. But he had no idea about how to deal with this.

He smiled.

Why do anything? This could turn out to be a very good thing.

“Hana, what do you want to do?”

She smiled at him.

“Why do anything?” she said voicing his thoughts. She stepped close to him again. “You and I, that's all it takes.”
She placed her hand on his chest under the kimono. He felt little shocks pulsing from the tips of her fingers. He shivered in delight, already ideas were running through his head.

Hana smiled as he leaned down and kissed her on her forehead.

I hope I know what I just got myself into…

Oh my GOD!!!!!

Kyou rolled onto his back and stared at the sky.

Kyou pulled at his hair. He shook his head.
