Chapter 3
The Plan to End the Innocence
Hatori was just finishing up checking on his stock of medicine and was sitting down to a nice cup of tea when Yuki came bursting through his door. “Hatori…come quick…Tohru…” Yuki managed to wheeze out and then fell to his knees breathing heavily.
Hitori rushed over to Yuki's side with an inhaler he kept in his desk drawer, just in case.
“Here Yuki…breathe this in…” and he puffed the inhaler into Yuki's mouth. “Now…tell me. What is wrong with Tohru?”
He looked up into Hatori's olive eyes and smiled.
“She's awakened hasn't she? That is wonderful. Does she seem to know you and everything?”
Yuki, having finally regained his voice, said, “Yes. She seems to know who I am but she does seem a little confused as to where she is. She kept trying to pull out her ventilator tube. I told her not to touch it because it was helping her breathe. She seemed to calm down after that”
“Good, good. I will go examine her now. I call for you on this phone when I am done and then you may return to her side.” Hatori said seriously, handing Yuki a cell phone he pulled from his coat pocket.
Hatori left Yuki in his office and reported the news of Tohru awakening to Akito. He had asked to know as soon as she had awakened before anyone else because he wanted to meet with her right away. He wheeled Akito down the hall to Tohru's room with trepidation because he wasn't sure that Akito speaking to her so soon would be a good thing. She may not be able to handle mental stress while so ill. But he had to do as Akito ordered and so he found himself opening the door and pushing Akito ahead of him.
Akito turned around as best he could in the chair and said, “Hatori, can you please remove her ventilator tube? I would like her to be able to speak to me and answer some questions.”
Hatori calmly walked over to Tohru, “As you wish.”
He answered as he deftly pulled out the tube. Noticing while he did so that Tohru was trembling slightly.
“It's okay Tohru. I won't let him hurt you. He only wants to talk.” He whispered in her ear.
Tohru shook her head yes and cleared her throat.
“Umm…may I have a glass of water please?” she asked hoarsely.
Hatori picked up the pitcher of water next to her bed and poured her a glass.
“Here you go. Drink slowly…your throat may be constricted and that makes it easy for you to choke.”
Tohru sipped the water carefully. Hatori set the pitcher of water down and rolled Akito closer to the head of Tohru's bed.
“Here you are Akito. Is that close enough for you? Do you need assistance with anything else?”
Waving him out Akito said coolly, “No…you presence is not needed anymore. I will call you when we are done chatting.”
Tohru locked eyes with Hatori and he could see that she was terrified but he had no choice.
“I will be right outside Tohru.”
And he left shutting the door behind him.
Akito leaner over close to Tohru's face and whispered, “So, Tohru-kun…how are you feeling? Well enough to grant me a dying wish?”
Tohru's eyes widened and she croaked out timidly, “A-a dying wish? Umm…whatever I can do for Akito-san I will try my best to do…”
Akito smiled and his gray eyes almost looked sincere.
“I know you have feelings for Yuki. But, in order to save him and the rest of the Juniishi you will need to make a choice. I fear it is a rather difficult choice for you to make. You need to, of your own free will, become pregnant with a child. The child must be conceived with someone whom you do not know. After the child is born you will have to give him or her to me to be my heir. Then, and only then will I reveal the secret of the curse to you. And you will know how to end it once and for all.”
Akito laughed and stared into Tohru's quivering eyes.
“What's wrong Tohru-kun? Are you going to blubber? I am sorry. But the world is not always happiness and rose petals…and you need to learn that. If you choose not to do as I ask. I am afraid I will have to command Hatori to erase your memories of us. And perhaps, say, a little extra…like the memories of your mother as well…” he trailed off artfully, knowing what he said would force her hand.
Tohru drew in a long, deep breath and steeled herself.
“Okay, Akito. I will do, as you desire. I cannot forget my mother or the Sohmas.”
Akito reached up and stroked her soft, pale cheek.
“It is okay Tohru-kun. I will take care of you like one of my own charges…I expect to see your rounded tummy soon.”
Tohru bowed her head to the God as best she could and said, “I will do my best to save you all.”
Akito grabbed her hair and pulled her hair up until she was eye to eye with him.
“You better.”
And with that he wheeled over to the door and knocked to indicate to Hatori that he was finished with her.
