THE BEST MEDICINE
A Fruits Basket Challenge Fanfic
Written by Miyu, Vampire Princess
CHALLENGE: An interesting dream can lead to strange behavior.
AUTHOR'S NOTES: I've started this story so many times and in many ways, but nothing's worked. Until NOW! *evil laughter* This is a follow-up to my story "A Cure for What Ails You". A bit on the forward looking end too. No spoilers, just smut. LEMON WARNING! Kazuma x Saki pairing.
Emptiness.
That's the feeling she couldn't shake. Despite the desperation in her voice. Despite the urge to panic. All she really felt in the great white void was emptiness.
She shouldn't have been alone. She could feel the presence of others. Her mother and father. Her younger brother. Even her closest friends had been present at one time or another. Their spirits moved in and out of the room, as did everyone elses.
But there was one she couldn't find.
And panic turned to fear.
He should have been the closest. A constant presence in the empty white void. But she could not feel him. Physically or metaphysically.
Then the white space turned gray, like a storm passing through a clear sky. But there was nothing but fear that accompanied the growing storm. Fear became terror as the grayness faded into black.
In the emptiness, she allowed her fear to take over, and she screamed his name into the darkness.
"Kazuma!"
"I'm here!" She practically jumped at the sound of his voice, eyes snapping open as her body bolted upright. "Saki, I'm here."
Kazuma Sohma appeared at her side, his face tired and relieved. He offered a silent prayer to the gods before he pulled the young woman into his arms. She'd fallen ill quite suddenly, passing out while outside watering plants. Several of his students and his son, Kyo had found his new bride in the grass. That had been three days ago. She'd been unconscious ever since.
"I'm happy you're finally awake."
Saki Sohma blinked. She tried hard to remember what happened last. She had been outside watering some flowers she and her friend Tohru had planted together. They had been a wedding present. It had not been a particularly warm day, but her usual black garments felt restrictive, and the sweat on her brow was undeserved. The last thing she saw was pitch black before her body, and the watering can, hit the ground.
That's when the strange dreams started.
She heaved a deep breath against his shoulder. "How long was I asleep?"
"Almost three days. And with the most horrible of ailments." He smiled into her hair. "I am glad that Hatori-san's treatment has helped you feel better."
She smiled wanely. "I hope I wasn't a burden on you, husband."
"Not at all. Although, I was most concerned about the nightmares," he told her. "Your sleep has been very fitful thanks to the fever."
"Nightmares...." The idea seemed laughable to her, but the memory of inky black and emptiness washed over her again. She shivered, willing the memory away. "The fever is broken, then?"
"Thankfully." He nodded. "And you will be feeling better in no time."
He relinquished his hold on her. The immediate loss of warmth caused her to panic, her body frozen though she wished it to move. He stood from the edge of the bed and turned to her with a smile.
"Tohru sent over some soup. Would you like to try some?"
"No!"
As he pulled away, she reached out for him. Both arms lifted, the motion pulling her until she nearly fell from the bed. He was there in an instant, holding one of her hands in his as the other wrapped around her in support.
"Saki!"
He was surprised to find her trembling in his grasp, her free hand latching onto his yukata and refusing to let go. This was a side of his new bride he did not think existed. She was no damsel in distress and not given to random bouts of outrageousness. He could only think of the nightmares and how they must have shaken her. With a sigh, he made himself as comfortable as possible, holding her close.
"Don't leave," she said, her voice much like her usual tone. "Please...stay with me."
"Of course." His voice was like a soothing salve, and he was glad when she began to relax in his arms. "I'm not going anywhere, love." He smoothed one hand through her long ebony tresses and pressed his lips against her temple. She sighed against his chest after a few moments and he asked, "Are you hungry?"
Feeling his familiar warmth, his arms holding her so gently, she quickly dismissed the feelings of emptiness the nightmares had given her. He was there. He was real.
And he was asking for trouble.
Kazuma's eyes widened, then narrowed slightly as she moved into his lap. His body quickly reacted, the feel of her fingers against his chest reminding him of how much he enjoyed her caresses. His hands barely touched her hips as she stradle him, The sight of her white yukata parting at the top was quite erotic. As was the sight of her cleavage and nearly exposed breasts. And if that wasn't torture enough, the pale blue material parted at the bottom, giving him a good view of her upper thighs and the dark blue panties she was wearing. His thoughts were distracted, however, as her fingers brushed over his shoulders and neck.
"Tohru's soup will have to wait." She cupped his face in her hands and leaned in until the tips of their noses touched. "I want to warm up something else first."
This was more like her, he thought as he closed the distance, capturing her lips in a steamy kiss. She felt like fire in his mouth, their tongues passionately dancing. And if her tongue wasn't hot enough, her skin burned his fingertips even through the material of her yukata as he ran his hands up and down her neck. He had missed the aggressiveness their attraction wrought. But deep in his mind he called himself a pervert for thinking such a thing. He didn't marry her for the sex.
It was a nice perk though.
Groaning, he pulled away from the kiss. A sigh gave way to a whimper as her lips brushed against his jaw. Her hands weren't idle either. Sighing, he fought for control, taking her hands in his and holding them tightly. Her eyes held his as she swayed her hips against him suggestively.
"Saki, are you sure...?"
Electricity flashed behind her dark eyes. "Reassure me that the nightmares are truly over. Onegai...."
Her plea was the only invitation he needed. Capturing her lips again, he forced her back onto the futon. With deft fingers her pulled at the belt of her yukata and parted the pale blue material. Soft white flesh was bared to his mercy, but he didn't spare her. No, he attacked her with the ferocity of a starving man.
She grunted her objection, but his hand on her breast and his lips working the sensitive skin of her neck, wiped away any thought of a coup. Melting into the sheets, she sighed as he ravaged her body. Her hands tangled into his hair as he lavished attention on her breasts, then moved lower. Moans echoed through the room, topped off with a scream as he suckled on her clit. Her body shook, filled with warmth and another building sensation.
"Kazuma...."
He cursed under his breath, trying to divest himself of his own yukata. Once free, Saki's hands roamed from top to bottom, literally. He moaned her name as her hands squeezed his engorged flesh. It was enough to make him shiver, but he couldn't give up his control. Not this time. He needed to feel her surrounding him, to move inside of her.
"Gomen," he whispered into her ear as he covered her body with his.
Mindless, her body knew what to expect. She raised her knees, rubbing her feet against his thighs as he pushed his hips against hers. She crooned as his lips pulled at her earlobe. Then she felt it, the head of his erection. It teased her before slowly slipping inside of her. There it remained until she lifted her hips and he buried himself deeper.
Their union was as frenzied as their foreplay. Hands clawed at his back as he pounded into her. In retaliation, his lips suckled on her breasts so she'd squirm beneath him. Back and forth they moved until their bodies exploded. They called to each other. Then silence.
Gasping for air, the laid side by side on the futon. Saki leisurely regarded her new husband. He looked tired, but the smile that graced his lips spoke of fulfillment. She returned his smile. The total aggressiveness had been a total turn on. Her body was tingling again already.
"Now I'm very grateful that Hatori's treatment has worked," Kazuma commented.
Saki chuckled. "I think that you are the best medicine for me, husband," she said, kissing his cheek.
"And you, wife, need to rest." He kissed her briefly before disengaging
himself from her. Covering her with the blanket, he kissed the tip of
her nose.
"Leaving so soon?"
"I have a class to attend to," he told her, adjusting his yukata into place. He stopped in the doorway and turned to look at her. He nearly laughed at the innocent look on her face. "I'll be back to make sure you take your medicine."
Smiling from ear to ear she felt her heart swell with happiness. Even without him near, she could feel him once again. Her body tingled where he had touched her and his aura was strong nearby. She giggled to herself as new dreams filled her head.
"You'd better be," she muttered to no one as she drifted off to sleep.
