"You wouldn't say that if you knew where I bought it from."
"Huh?"
"Seriously! You wouldn't like the store!" Momiji grinned sheepishly, blushing.
Kisa gaped at him. In her mind, she ran over the events of that day. Park. Swing. Crepe vendor. Swing. Seesaw. What could he possibly have meant by that last comment? 'You wouldn't say that if you knew where I bought it from'.
Momiji watched Kisa's reaction with a slight hint of pleasure. She looked confused. She was so kawaii when her eyes got big like that.
"What do you mean, I wouldn't like the store? I don't even know where you went! And I have no idea what *this* is!" Kisa held up the ring for emphasis.
Momiji grinned.
"It's a ring, Kisa. You're supposed to wear it on your finger..."
"I know that! But I don't know why you bought it for me. What would Hiro say?" She leaned the box towards Momiji.
"Hiro-Shmeero. I got it for you, not him. I wanted you to wear it. Once again. NOT HIRO." Momiji pushed the box back to Kisa.
"Are you sure?" Kisa looked concerned. "But why did you say that I wouldn't like it if I knew where you got it from?" Kisa tilted her head questioningly.
Momiji turned to go, but looked over his shoulder.
"That's for me to know, and for you to figure out on your own!" With that, Momiji disappeared in the brush of leaves.
Kisa stared after him with her mouth open. She didn't notice how tightly she clutched the box to her chest.
"Momiji...."
Kisa silently opened the box after she lost sight of Momiji. She blinked in surprise.
A pretty gold ring.
Kisa looked up to where Momiji had stood and sighed.
