Tohru woke up early. It was wonderful to have off of school even if it was only for a day. She rose and quickly dressed before heading downstairs to make breakfast. As she rummaged around in the kitchen, she began to hum a song that her mother used to sing to her as a child. It was a simple lullaby, but every time her mother sang it to her it had made her smile.
Shigure soon came down the stairs and stopped to listen to her. He smiled and made his way into the kitchen. It wasn't long before Tohru noticed him.
“Oh, I'm sorry. Was I too loud? Did I wake you up?”
“Not at all. I came downstairs and thought it was a beautiful songbird singing. When I found out it was you, I was touched. A beautiful song all for me, by our little flower,” Shigure said, not hearing Kyo come up behind him.
“Say that one more time you damn dog and I'll knock you through the roof,” Kyo said upon passing.
“Oh, Kyo. You're so cruel to me. You should respect me a little more…” Shigure rambled.
By this time, Yuki had come down the stairs rubbing his eyes. It was apparent that he wasn't a morning person and the commotion had woken him up.
“What's going on down here Miss Honda?”
“Shigure's being an idiot,” Kyo replied for Tohru.
“I didn't ask you, you stupid cat. I asked Miss Honda.”
They glared at each other with equal amounts of hatred and annoyance. Shigure decided to step in before things got heated.
“Don't start you two. I told you the main house isn't flipping the bill for any more repairs and besides you don't want to fight in front of Tohru.”
The boys turned to glare at Shigure now. They didn't want to hear what he had to say.
“It's gotten really stuffy in here. I think we need someone to lighten the mood. I know, I'll call Aya. I haven't seen him in a while,” he said as he reached for the phone.
“If you call that damn snake, …” Kyo started to say.
“…We'll shove that phone ten inches down your throat,” Yuki finished.
“Ok,” Shigure said meekly as took off quickly for his study.
“Um… breakfast is ready,” Tohru said softly catching the boys' attention.
The three of them sat down at the table and ate their breakfast in silence. Since the mentioning of Yuki's elder brother, Ayame Sohma, the boys were in a worse mood than they were before he was mentioned. Tohru sighed, not quite knowing what she could do to make things better. She started to clean up breakfast, while Yuki went to his room and Kyo retreated to the roof.
Shigure watched the three of them as they went their separate ways. It was amazing that the three of them could be so different and yet in some cases, when all three of them were together, they could get along in some way. He smiled at that thought as Tohru came back into the room.
“Where did Yuki and Kyo go?”
“I think Yuki went to his room and Kyo went to the roof. I think I upset them when I said I was going to call Aya.”
“Don't worry Shigure, even if those two should turn against you, I will always be here,” came a deep, flamboyant voice.
The two of them looked up to see Ayame Sohma standing in the doorway with his long, silver hair glittering in the sun. He wore a flamboyant red outfit with a dark purple and blue sash, serving as a belt.
“Aya, it's you,” Shigure said in glee.
”Oh Ayame, what are you doing here?” Tohru asked politely.
“I came to visit Shigure and I wanted to have a chance to bond with Yuki. After all, I haven't seen him since he came to my wonderful store. And I must say he enjoyed himself while he was there, after all I call it `Yuki's day of romance'…” Ayame rambled on until he was struck by a fist and knocked to the floor.
Yuki gave Shigure an angry look. He was furious at the fact that Ayame was in their house and talking like an idiot.
“Now Yuki, don't look at me. I didn't call him. He came here on his own,” Shigure said defending himself against Yuki.
“I don't care how he got here or why he's here. It's the fact that he's here.”
“Yuki, I'm here to try to bond with you. I can't turn around now that I've come all this way to see you.”
The two brothers began arguing with each other. Neither quite understood the other, and they had come to some semblance of understanding at their last visit. This was of course completely lost in the turmoil as Yuki told his brother to leave while Aya was going on about wanting to bond with his younger brother.
“Aw, Yuki you don't want me to go away!” Aya said as confident as ever.
“Yuki, maybe we should just let him stay,” Shigure said defending his friend.
“No!”
Kyo heard the commotion from the roof. He was safe as long as Aya was bothering Yuki. The cat smirked.
Finally that damn rat is suffering instead of me.
