This is checkmark number three in a list of 100. The first two are: It Was Connected At Last and Being Broken Ones.
AN: I was writing a poem that reminded me of Kyo, and then this story just came from it.
Disclaimer: This all belongs to Takaya-sensei. Not mine. Hers. Well, except the poem. That's mine.
Wave
He didn't have dreams of marriage
He didn't have dreams of sloth.
He only dreamt of open arms
That welcomed with open hearts.
He didn't dream of greatness
He didn't dream of wealth.
He only dreamt of a love, his own
And acceptance from his flock.
But that he dreams
Changes not that he dreams
And that's all they are
All they'll ever be?
After reading this, Uotani only had a few choice things to say.
"Wow." Uo gazed dryly at Hana. "That's some deep gothy shit right there."
"Why, thank you, Arisa." The darker replied evenly.
The fish rolled her eyes. "Whatcha gonna call it?"
"I believe," Hanajima paused to think, "I shall call it Kyo." She turned and bowed at the red head. (Who just gave her an odd look) "In honor of the fool who inspired it. Thank you for playing muse."
"Who ya callin' a fool?!" Kyo hissed.
"YOU! Idiot..." Uo cut in and clonked him on the back of the head.
"Look you Yankee b----"
"Would you like a copy?" Hana was offering him an envelope, which one would assume contained the poem. The cat snatched it and just stuffed it in his pocket before hurrying off to his desk as the school bell rang. Hana kept an amused eye on him for the rest of the day, but of course cat boy didn't notice.
At the end of the day, the only thing the red head noticed was different was that Hana said goodbye to him. And he didn't remember about the envelope until later, when he was changing out of his uniform.
"What the hell is this..." He grumbled as he took it out of his pocket. He hadn't heard the little poem yet, and he frowned when he read it. It bothered him... A lot. To the point where he finished changing and then went down the stairs to ask Tohru where Hana lived. He needed to confront her about this.
"Nee-san." Megumi frowned at the red head at the door as he called over his shoulder to his sister. "There is a boy at the door."
"Let him in, Megumi. I was expecting him."
So the child allowed him in and Hana led Kyo up to her room.
"Hanajima--"
"Megumi," She turned to address the boy following them. "I need to talk to this boy alone."
"Yes, Nee-san." He bowed politely, shutting the door to her room behind them and heading off.
"Hanajima," Kyo finally tried again, drawing the paper out of his pocket and waving it irritably in her face. "Why the hell did you write this?!"
"In a way," She shrugged, carefully unbraiding her hair as she spoke. "You wrote it."
"No I didn't! What that the hell are you talking about?!" He fumed.
"It is what your waves say." Hana explained. "Your waves and your cousins'. By reading them I have discovered these," she gestured vaguely at the paper, "things about you."
"What things?" Kyo glared at her.
"You have fear and loneliness." Hana sighed. "I haven't found out all your secrets yet. But I have still come to understand you.
"Y-you aren't--"
But the flower kept talking as if she hadn't been interrupted. "You fear repulsion, and all you want is acceptance. And someone to love. Nothing else really matters to you." She gave him a sad look. "You push people away physically, with actins and words. I simply withdraw from society, for the most part, all together." The cat stared at her as his understanding clicked, but he didn't say anything. 'From what I have seen of your family, Kyo," She used his name pointedly. "They aren't repulsed by you. You're suffering that way needlessly."
"No fucking offense, Hanajima, but you don't know what you're talking about."
The Goth shook her head tiredly.
"You'll have to forgive me for this." Then she sent a prickling wave into him. He felt it coursing in him and he just seized up for the most part. "Please tell me where I can contact Sohma, Hatori." She commanded and in his current state Kyo didn't think not to answer. Hanajima frowned before sending another wave at him. He groaned softly before passing out.
"Is this Sohma, Hatori." She wondered absently into the phone later.
"Yes," The dragon was just as idle in his response. "How can I help you?"
"I have one of your cousins passed out on my bedroom floor." Hana informed him. "I suggest you come get him before I take this opportunity to investigate the Sohma's secret."
"Ah--" That made Hatori a little nervous. A girl obviously had one of the juunishi unconscious at her house. That was dangerous. "Right, where do you live and I'll be right there?"
Soon enough Hatori arrived and was lead up to the Goth's room. She watched as his waves spiked in concern over his fallen kin.
"Do you know what happened? What's wrong?" He asked her, feeling Kyo's pulse. It was a little slow, but other than that he seemed perfectly okay.
"He is very lonely." The flower murmured, looking the red head over soulfully. "I trust you will take good care of him? It's your care he wants after all.
The doctor gave her an odd look before scooping up the unconscious cat and heading out to his car. "Of course..."
Kyo didn't really seem to be waking up any time soon. He lay in the bed in Hatori's office without any signs of consciousness. He was out like a light, but they just told the school he was sick and Hana did his homework for him.
Now, not that anyone but Hana knew this but Kyo wasn't as unconscious and unaware as they thought. Hana had worked long and hard on perfecting that wave and it was now doing it's job beautifully. The first wave had probed deep into the cat's psyche, temporarily awakening a sensitivity to emotions. The second wave was just to knock Kyo out until the stubborn boy understood was Hanajima was trying to tell him.
Kyo was acutely aware of it every time someone came to see him. He saw it as clearly as Hana saw her waves. The concern and the distinct lack of repulsion amazed him. He even saw it in Yuki. (He knew it was Yuki since he also saw the raging stream of rivalry.)
It took him a while to fully grasp that he was cared for and wanted in the family, but when he did he opened his eyes. The waves disappeared and instead he saw Hatori at his desk across the room.
"Hatori," He croaked and the dragon glanced up before hurrying over.
"Kyo..." He murmured, checking his pulse and such quickly.
"I," The red head tried to talk but his throat was all dry and prickly.
"Wait," Tori commanded. "You've been out for a week. I'll get some water." He suggested, going off to do that.
When all that was okay the dragon began inquiring on the cat's health.
"Are you all right?" He'd been worried! "What happened?"
"I'm fine, but I need to talk to Hanajima."
"I'm right here." The Goth spoke up from the doorway causing both Sohmas to jump.
"God damn it, Hanajima! Can't you EVER say 'hello' like a normal fucking person?!" Kyo cursed, but his temper quickly calmed. "I need to talk to you."
The flower glided over, ignoring Hatori. "You understand now yes?" She wanted to be sure.
"Yeah," The red head nodded.
But Hatori was confused. "What's going on?"
"No one deserves your kind of loneliness, Kyo. And really, I can't have such an unstable creature like you around Tohru. You'll hurt her feelings." She added in as joking a tone as Hanajima gets as she reached out a soothing hand to brush his fiery colored hair.
Hatori was completely forgotten as Kyo looked up into her dark eyes.
"What about you?"
She smiled, bending at her waist in a ruffle of fabric to kiss his forehead. He blushed and she mumbled against his tan skin. "I am fine." Hana assured him drawing away.
Hatori decided now would be a good time to leave... The cat brought up a hand and carefully brought her head back down and kissed her. Hatori really didn't need to be watching! The kiss lasted until they ran out of breath.
"Now you are." Kyo corrected.
"You have such lovely waves today..." Hana murmured before pressing a kiss onto his lips this time. Despite being opposites, they still had enough similarities to weave together. Completion? Maybe it'll work out for them.
