Chapter 1

Alexis walked down the long hallway to her 7th hour class, Ancient Egyptian Studies. Her medium brown hair that was streaked with blonde swayed gently with her steps. She had always found Egypt interesting and it wasn't so much an educational class that was mandatory, it was an option to take it and not history. But only a selected few were allowed, but luck was on her side as her best friends were in it with her. It was her last period class, so it gave them something to look forward to. As she walked in her Teacher Mr. Ransdell greeted her. He had short reddish hair and light hued skin with freckles. He had on a nice, crisp, white shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes.

“Hello Mr. Ransdell.” She said smiling. Her brown eyes skimming over the students already there. `nope, they are not here yet.' She thought taking her seat in the front row.

“Hello Alexis, ready for the trip?” He asked looking up.

“Not quite, still have a little more packing.”

“Are you excited to see Egypt?”

“Yeah, I can't believe you were able to get the school to let us go and take 4 weeks off!” She squealed.

“Well it is supposed to be educational right?

“Right.” By the end half the class was already in and preparing for the day, as usual. It was Monday, but this week the wouldn't be focusing so much on their learning as preparing for the trip.

“Alexis.” Alex greeted in a singsong voice.

“Oh, hey Alex, supp?” She asked looking up into her friends familiar brown eyes as she took the seat next to the wall two desks away.

“Not much, are you excited for the trip?” she asked fingers running through the back of her dark brown hair. It looked black to most, but Alexis knew it was dark brown.

“Oh hell yea, I mean come on. Miss school for four weeks and study ancient Egypt? That's way cool.”

“No shit.” Whit said sitting next to Alexis leaving an empty desk for Anne between her and Alex. ”Who wouldn't want to go on the trip?” Alexis smiled at her redheaded friends silliness. Alexis was always jealous of Whits blue eyes, and even told her so before.

“True.” Anne said sitting down. Alexis still couldn't get over from when her light color haired friend had decided to go fish bowl green. Luckily now it was a nice red.

“Man it's coming up soon.” Whit said getting out a pencil.

“I know, we leave Monday. He said he's gonna give us a packet on all the stuff on the trip today.” Alexis said getting a highlighter out just as the bell rang.

“Ok class, please get out your highlighter and a pen or pencil as I pass out these packets.” Mr. Ransdell announced and handed out the packet to every person keeping one to read off himself. “Ok, you guys can look at where we are going and what we will be doing for this trip. Yes, we will be sight seeing, but it is supposed to be a relaxing learning environment, so there will be rest days. Your rooming is all figured out and is listed on the back, umm… Your supply list is there too, it is just a list of what you should pack. We will be going for two months, leaving the airport from here at 3 AM! So I expect to see all of you there by 1:30 to get checked in and on the plane. As you know this is all paid for by the touring company and this is an educational test to see if it is a good idea. Since we have the greatest amount of students and the highest test scores in the state we were chosen. As you know it is just this class going and we will be staying at a very nice hotel there so I expect you to be on your best behavior. They have given us use of our own private plane, bug enough to carry all of us so if you misbehave, I will not hesitate to send you straight home. You get one warning and one only. Umm… Everything you need to know is in this packet, I will be here for questions all week. Your homework is collected from every class and stored away safely with me already. Oh, I almost forgot to thank you all for sending so many thank you notes like I asked they sent these back. They are special and you are to wear them respectfully in Egypt. Each of you has been given a special Egyptian name, just for fun.” He said giving them out in order of last names. Alexis looked at the box wondering what it was. Opening it slowly she found an amulet with a blue stone in the middle. It had a kitten carved at the top and the bottom said: Sanura.

“Wow, this is so pretty.” Whit said. Looking over Alexis saw that hers was similar but with a red and black swirled stone and carving of a Cloud and hers said Akila. Alex's had an emerald stone with a leaf on the top and hers said Tale, and Anne's had a purple stone and a skull on the top with Hathor- Sakamet on the bottom.

“This is so cool, these word must mean something in Egyptian.” Alexis said looking around. Others had red or yellow and a symbol of either a pharaoh or a queen, depending on the gender. Looking back at hers she touched it lightly with her finger gently sliding it down the side of the stone. She got and eerie chill run down her spine when she looked into it deeper and could swear she saw a girl, about her age, dressed in what she guessed was upper class robes looking at her sadly. She had long dark hair with gold threads braided in, dark eyeliner and lipstick with earrings of blue and silver like the amulet. The image was still slightly hazy however. When she felt something poked her arm. Looking over she saw Whitney smiling saying:

“Aren't these pretty?”

“Yeah they are.” She replied still stunned.

`I need to stop watching scary movies.' She thought before following her friends, necklace resting safely in the box in her hands.

“Did you notice we were like some of the only ones with amulets like these? Most just have names on them. They must have really liked out thank you notes.” Alex said as they walked out the door.

As the girls walked to the 7000 building parking lot they chattered about the trip excitedly not wanting to wait until Monday to leave… well next Monday. They each got home about the same time where they all got on aim and talked. Alex sat in her chair and read the silly comments her friends made, her amulet sitting next to her. Her dog came in greeting its master warmly.

“Hey there, whatcha doin baby?” She asked in her baby voice petting her dog. The dog suddenly turned to the box and growled slowly stepping away.

“What is it? This? It's just a necklace.” Alex said opening the box. The dog seemed to calm, but left the room shortly after. `Wonder what got into her.' She thought. Looking at her amulet she once again thought upon how beautiful it was. Picking it up she found it was pretty light for its size. Holding it by the chain she watched it twirl around until she saw something past it, like a girl about her age and height standing in the door way with long dark hair looking up she found no one there.

“Ok, that's a little creepy.” She said aloud putting back the amulet and going back to her conversation. Little did she know Anne and Whit had also had a strange night. Anne sat at her computer and typed a message into the chat. She then leaned back and took a gulp of root beer. Looking over to her side she found her amulet sitting on her desk. Holding it in her palm she looked it over and then turned to her computer that she normally had a picture of her as a background, only to find it was not her. She gasped and fell backwards to the floor dropping the amulet.

“Holy shit, what was that?” Anne asked still startled. Whit had gotten up to go to the bathroom when she had seen her amulet by her door. Picking it up she rubbed against it with her thumb feeling how smooth the texture was. Walking in the bathroom she turned on the light and looked in the mirror to see not only herself but a strange Egyptian girl behind her with reddish hair. Screaming she looked behind then back to the mirror, but nothing was there.

“*sigh* It was just my Imagination.” She thought setting down the amulet.
