Edward Elric paused at the entrance of the library, his arms full of new books and materials. Al was waiting by the sidewalk - A boy of about fourteen, gazing at the towns people like any other. He looked so normal, so average, that not many would now that had spent four years in a body made of steel. Cold. Only Edward- his brother, saw through the pretenses that he had built around him.
Edward skipped the last step, landing on the balls of his feet. If one had been listening, he (or she) would have heard the faint, different sound that his right foot made as it hit the concrete through his shoe. But no one paid the pair any notice, let alone listen to their conversation or movements. Every one rushed past them, taking no notice of them- not anymore. Nearly a month ago, they had arrived her, in America, in a small city to the south. At first, they were the topic of discussion, but as routine wormed its way in, the talk dies and faded. It seemed as if they where always here, as they had been to this library everyday for the past month.
Edward trotted along a steady pace, barely aware of the sidewalk passing under him. He was much to busy seething with anger. The government was obviously hiding something…something about a new weapon. And Edward knew exactly what weapon it is. The uranium bomb. He and Alphonse had to stop it. A sudden noise jostled him from his glaring at his feet. A kid had kicked a can, banging a garbage bin loudly…and that was the reason that he saw her- the beautiful, pixie-like girl… just across the street from him. Edward's mouth suddenly went very dry. She had inky, spiked hair that feathered her face and almost obscured her vivid, golden eyes, so similar to his own. Even As she was alone, odd for many people where walking about together on the eve of Valentine's Day, Edward could not process any other thought than her cat like gait, The absolute fluidity, the way her hips moved every time she took a step…nothing registered as his walking slowed. But he was very nearly shaken out of the stupor when a sudden glazed look came across her face.
A second later, she gave a sharp jolt, and looked across the street at him in confusion.
Al had, by now, noticed that Edward had stopped- And flushed a tomato red. Al stopped, and he laid a firm hand on Ed 's shoulder, and began to tow him away. Edward refocused, trying to shut out thoughts of that strange, beautiful girl. Edward was silent the rest of the way to their hotel, Contemplating how in the world this stranger had shaken him so much.
It was Un real…and for this, he feared it.
