Chapter Three: Amy Trigham and Off to Central City
I shivered, it was freezing! I shot up in my bed and glared at the window. The red curtains blew lightly in the cold air that froze the room I occupied, I gripped the white sheets beneath me, my right eye twitching rapidly. I whipped the blankets off of me and I looked at the window stupidly.
Now...why the hell is my window open!?!? I thought ferouciously, then I remembered last night.
*Flash Back*
After Ed had laid me in the bed I fell half-asleep instantly and he left quietly, closing the door behind him. I opened my eyes slowly, unable to grasp the darkness of sleep. I stared at the gray shadows that danced across the ceiling, wondering why I couldn't sleep, I was-after all-exhausted! After laying there for what seemed to be forever-it was only four minutes-I decided I was too hot. I sat up and walked over to the window; yanking it open I smiled sleepily.
"Good...now, sleep." I crawled silently back into the bed and ignored the heavy blankets, I just wrapped the sheet over my bare arms.
*Flash Back End*
I slammed my hands onto the glass and was about to pull the window closed when I heard my name called from outside. I leaned out the window, sleep still evedent in my features, and looked at the ground below. Winry was down there, waving to me happily, Ed and Al were off to the side fighting against each other. I looked at the three of them, seeming bored, but I was really just really sleepy, then I leaned back in and closed the window. I crawled back into bed.
"Sleep." I stated. Then I couldn't. I flipped over onto my back and stared at the ceiling for a few minutes. "Too hot." I got up and opened the window again, cool air brushing over my pale skin. "Too cold." I closed it, then went back to thinking about the bed. "Dammit." I decided I would just get dressed and go outside.
~~~~~~~
I sat under the shade of a tree, quietly reading a book on automail-which, might I add?, was BOR. ING. My hair was tightly pulled back again, because a certain hyper-active, ADHD, blonde mechanic wouldn't let me keep it down. Ed and Al were still fighting, or training whatever you wanted to call it, and Al was winning. I pulled the skinny strap of the dark blue tank-top back onto my shoulder and sighed. Lifting myself from the ground I put the book by the tree's roots, I dusted off the sides and back off my black jeans. They hugged my hips and sagged at the bottom, Ed looked over at me when I started to walk towards the town.
"Where are you goingOW?!!!" he was thrown to the ground and I looked over my shoulder at them,
"Book store." I stated blandly.
~~~~~~~
I heard a clanking noise follow me into the town, I stopped and waited for him to catch up. When he was a foot away from me I turned to face him,
"Al, why are you following me?"
"Just incase you pass out, I want to be here for you." I narrowed my eyes at him,
"Ed told you to follow me."
"N-no! I did it on my own." I turned back around,
"That wasn't a question, dumb-butt." I was usually a person who swore every chance she got, but I was going to be nice to him. I allowed him to chase after me to the book store. I may be short, but I was still a fast walker.
~~~~~~~
The bell dinged above our heads and I entered, walking past the man behind the counter. He had waved with a cheerful smile, but he took one glance at me and he was gone to the back store room. I walked into the advanced section of Alchemy, but there wasn't anything there that I didn't know about. So I wandered, I ended up sitting on the floor, a book on the evils of alchemy in my lap; the spine braced by my pulled up knees. There were shuffling feet that caught my attention, they were too light to be Al's and to quiet to be a man's, thus they were a small girl's I figured. I looked at a girl with light blonde hair that was neatly pulled into a side-ponytail over her shoudler. Her eyes were a shiny blue and she wore a blue dress, black shoes on her feet. She looked a few years younger than me, but she was very pretty for her, asumed, age. She looked at me, with a shaky smile, I didn't realize I had been staring. I blinked and looked away, feeling embarrassed; I still watched her from the corner of my eye. She was a little pale, like she was sick, and she looked frail. It was as if this small girl had been through as much as I had and was still tortured by it. She reached up for a book, but wasn't able to reach, I didn't move. I could hear Al coming closer and I could feel his blood seal.
"Oh...would you like some help?" he asked, kindly. He came around the corner and grabbed the red-covered book for her, placing it in her small hands. With a grateful smile, she looked up at him.
"Th-thank you..." she looked away to the side.
"You're very shy, little one." I stated in a calm voice. I stood up, and clasped the black, book I had been previously reading shut. "What is your name?" I asked gently. She looked at me, her face tinted pink.
"A-Amy...Amy Trigham...may I ask yours?"
"Will you not be frightened?" I asked. She shook her head, "Yukiko Takahashi. Do you know of my mistake?" she nodded, but still smiled.
"I don't believe you would hurt him on purpose. Your eyes are too kind." That took me off guard. I didn't let it show at all, I pointed to Al, the silver of the armor glinted in the sunlight that poured in from the window.
"That's Alphonse Elric...I like to call him Al." he raised a big hand to wave, she nodded to him in reply. "Al, I'm going to go." I placed the book back on the shelf and exited the small shop, feeling a burning in the back of my head the whole time. I stopped just in the doorway, "If you have something to say, then, please, by all means, say it. If not, then I would appreciate it if you would stop watching me like a hawk." the book-store owner didn't say anything, but he turned away, "Thank you." I left.
~~~~~~
I entered quietly into Winry's home, the faint click of the door closing behind me rose Ed's attention from the phone. He said a small 'Yea, yea. Whatever.' then laid it back on its cradle. He sighed, annoyed by something, I waited for him to tell me...or not.
"That was the Colonel...I have to go back to Cent--uh...hey, where's Al?" he looked at the open air behind me.
"Back in the book store." I said, he was almost back here though, I felt the blood seal. Ed's jaw dropped,
"Why in the name of hell did you leave by yourself?!?!"
"So you did send Al after me, then?" his face flushed, he nodded with a sigh. "He's here." I stepped away from the door and it swung open, coming an inch to my back, "Hello, Alphonse, have a good run?" I asked semi-sweetly.
"Why did you leave!?"
"I told you I was leaving." I looked away from him and to Ed again, "And where might you be going, Edward?"
"C-Central...I'm a state aclhemist." I looked at him calmly,
"I'm going with you." Al 'eeped' and Ed's face paled, then reddened in anger,
"NO YOU AREN'T!!!" I stared him down and the battle began.
~~~Next Day~~~
Winry hugged me tightly before Ed, Al and I got on the train. I had won the small battle between me and Ed, so now he was ticked at me and getting more and more irked every second we wasted. A dark jacket was draped over my shoulders and my red shirt was a new change in color for me, I wore black jeans again, but baggier ones this time. I pushed her off of me and picked up my suitcase, handing it to Al, who handed it to Ed through the open train window. There was a tug at my arm and I looked over,
"Amy-chan?"
~~~~~~
Amy sat in front of me on the train, Ed and Al were over in the other row, I asumed it was because Ed didn't want to talk to me. Amy looked out the window thoughtfully, like she didn't have a care in the world, I looked out the window as well, but I caught her taking glances at my automail. I closed my eyes, sighed, opened them and turned to her fully.
"How do you know of what I did?" she looked startled that I spoke all of a sudden, she then calmed.
"My cousin told me...my papa had been working in Risembool for a while, he was meeting someone's family...I think his name was..." she scratched behind her head a second, "...ummm, oh! It was Kurou!" My eyes widened, "Hm? Yukiko-san?"
"That...that was my father's name...then..the one who told us of our father's death was your father..." I felt my eyes water, I covered my face with my palms. Shaking my head side to side, I leaned down so I was laying on my knees; I felt a hand on my back.I couldn't understand why I was so upset, was it the past years of pain finally affecting me? Was I crying now because I hadn't then? I sobbed louder, because I knew there wasn't an answer to any of my questions. It wasn't fair! Amy wrapped her arms around me and held me close, she shushed me and comforted my sobs.
"Shhh...it's okay..." she whispered, then she started to sing; the echoes of her beautiful voice bounced through the empty compartment,
"Goodnight, sleep tightNo more tears
In the morning I'll be hereAnd when we say goodnight,Dry your eyes
Because we said goodnight,And not goodbye
We said goodnightAnd not goodbye..." I felt calmed, and healed, as if those words and her voice were what I needed all along. My eyes felt heavy and slowly, I drifted to sleep.
~~~~~~~
The train rattled and bounced, I felt warm. Opening my eyes I saw I was in Amy's-who had fallen asleep as well-lap, a red jacket over me, I recognized it to be Ed's. I sat up, not disturbing the sleeping girl, and looked at Ed. He was asleep in the bench he had been sitting on. I stood and walked to him, ignoring Al's eyes, I kneeled down and laid the jacket over him. He didn't look so violent went he was sleeping, I moved blonde bangs from his closed eyes, I leaned down near his ear and whispered;
"Thank you, Ed..." and I laid a feather-light kiss on his cheek. Standing again I glanced at Al with a small smile. "Shh, don't tell him, 'kay?" he nodded and I sat back down next to Amy, who fell over onto my shoulder still fast asleep.
~~~~~~
As we walked into Central HQ, Ed kept giving me curious glances; inquiring as to how and why he got his jacket back. I did my best not to smile, I opened the door to the headquarters, distinctly remembering being here once. A blonde woman looked up from what she was writing and we stared at each other a second before I was pulled into a spine-crushing hug.
"Yukiko! Oh, Yuki-chan it's so good to see you again!" The looks Ed and Amy had were, as presented: O.o??. "How're you doing? How's mother and Keiko?" I nodded to her with a smile,
"They are fine, older sister."
"OLDER SISTER?!?!?!?!" Ed and Al screamed, Amy stayed calm considering she didn't know the woman in front of me; also known as Riza Hawkeye; she got a name change when she went into the military after father.
"Yes, I have and older sister, is that surprising?" A blonde man walked around the corner and smiled, coming up to me.
"And who is this little beauty." I glared at him, of course the idiot would recognize me after four years.
"Jean Havoc, you better stay away from me, you lecherous old pervert." he smiled at that. "I'm not kidding this time!" I growled, he just chuckled and I felt ashamed. I tolerated such strange people. Another person rounded the corner and I instantly recognized the handsome features; "Roy!" He was really over protective, I hadn't messed with Ed in a while, so I decided I would have Roy destroy him for me.
"Yuki, good to see you." I broke my depressed state completely with a big, cutesy smile. Roy patted my head and I glanced at Ed,
"Roy, Ed's been very kind to me while I was staying with him at a friend's house." he looked over my head at the blonde chibi,
"Oh really?" there was a slightly menacing tone in his voice, he really didn't like boys of any kind older than 13 near me. I nodded,
"~Very~" I said cutely, in a sing-song voice, I looked at Ed from over my shoulder; he gave me a 'What-Are-You-Planning-?' look, I smiled devilishly.
"U-U-Um...excuse me.." Amy whispered softly. Everyone looked at her, and the small girl 'eep'ed.
"W-Well um...I-I was wondering if I could have some money for an inn.." she whispered. Al made a 'Hm?' sound.
"You don't want to stay with us?" he asked her softly.
"O-Oh I do, but I don't want to impose.." Amy whispered, looking down. I smiled.
"Come on now, kiddo. You won't impose." I said.
"B-But..." Amy squeaked. Ed sighed and patted her roughly on the head. "Kid, you're with us. Relax." he said, giving her a smile. Amy nodded slightly, and I laughed slightly.
~*~
I had just settled into the spare room Amy and I would be sharing, and walked out the door to the hallway, wondering if there was anything I could do to ease my boredom. I then saw Ed walking the opposite direction...and I began to grin.
'I know a way to ease my boredom...mess with Edo.' I thought. "Oh, Edward!" I called, making my way towards him.
~*~ Amy~*~
-3rd Person-
The fragile blonde walked silently out of the Central HQ and down the sidewalk, hoping a little walk would relax her. For the past 2 hours, Amy felt she was being watched and followed, and that frightened her greatly.
After 15 more minutes, she found herself at an inn. Wanting to know everything about Central, she walked in. It was quiet....too quiet. In fact, no one besides Amy was inside the inn.
"I-I wonder if everyone went on a lunch break.." Amy whispered.
"Hi!!!"
Amy almost screamed as she heard a voice behind her that sounded like a boy's. The small girl turned to see a boy her age behind her, with long messy black hair, pale skin, and striking violet eyes. He wore a strange black shirt that showed his whole stomach, and black shorts. What was really strange about him was that his right arm and left leg were tanner then the rest of his skin, and that he had sharp teeth.
"U-U-Um....hello there.." Amy whispered, not wanting to be rude. The boy grinned at her, showing those sharp teeth.
"Do you wanna play with me??" he asked. Amy blinked.
"U-Um...okay..." she whispered, relief on her face. This boy only wanted to play...though...why did he seem so threatening?
"Hm...what should we play?" the boy said, his expression now as 'Lemme think..'. The boy then grinned. "I know! Hide and Seek! You hide, and I shall seek! Ready?? GO!!" he laughed. Amy, not wanting to disobey him, ran off to hide somewhere quickly.
~*~*~*~*~
It has been a good five minutes, and Amy still wasn't found. She was right in a dark closet, curled up in a ball. It was very quiet out there too, which frightened her.
"M-Maybe he got bored and left..." she said softly. Amy then placed her hand on the closet knob, and pushed the door open...only to come face to face with the boy, his playful look from before gone, and his look now more like a predator staring at it's prey. "...I-It seems you won..." Amy squeaked in fright, wanting to run away from this boy as fast as possible.
"Yes....it seems I have.." the boy whispered in a low growl, slowly inching his way towards her.
