Chapter 2: Oh go ahead Roy, just ruin everything…… Bastard.
“Ed, guests”.
Ed blinked “who the hell?” he wondered, after all the `guests' they normally had in their house were simply automail customers and Winry would make a point of saying customers not `guests'. “Ed did you hear me?” she shouted from the houses front room.
“Yeah alright Winry I'm coming!” Ed shouted back looking around for a rag to wipe his oil slicked hands on. “I'll deal with you later” he mumbled to the car engine that just refused to be fixed. Sighing he simply wiped his hands on his already dirty jeans and stomped out the workshop.
As Ed entered the front room he stoped dead in his tracks. Ed stared at Al in complete shock, he was dressed like Ed had been five years ago. It brought back so many memories that he didn't want coming up. But the man who stood behind Al brought up even more, Roy Mustang!

“I'm saying by the looks on your faces this isn't a social visit”
Ed said as Winry placed the three mugs of coffee on the table in front of him. Al was sitting on the armchair beside the lounge Ed was on and Roy was standing against the wall. Taking the one straight black, Ed still hated milk; he took a big sip of the hot caffeine loaded liquid.
“We need you to find the stone Full Metal” Roy said matter of factly; making Ed cough as his body suddenly found itself unable to swallow the mouth full of coffee he had at the time. Struggling to regain his composer Ed stared at Roy with a mixture of amazement and hatred.
“First of all its just Ed now not Full Metal anymore” Ed glared at Roy with boiling anger. “And secondly, I'm not doing a dam thing for you or the state, I'm retired now and I'm staying that way” he looked from Roy to Al “if you want the stone so bad, go and find it yourself” he growled through gritted teeth.
“But brother….” Al said seeing his brother about to snap and punch Roy's teeth down his throat. “No Al, no but nothing” Ed said glaring at Al “I told this bastard three years ago that I quite and was through with the military and state, and now he just rocks up and asks, no orders, me to go digging up the past when I'm three months away from turning twenty and then marrying Winry”.
For a tense second Ed and Al stared at each other until Ed sighed and looked down at his coffee. “Try to understand Al, I promised Winry when I came back that I'd never leave again, I promised and I'm not about to break a promise to her”. Al watched his brother go through a series of emotions including confusion, suspicion and doubt before settling on frustration.
“We wouldn't have asked Full Metal, but no one else knows where the stone originally was hidden apart from you” Ed snapped a burning glare of annoyance at Roy before looking back down at his coffee. “I know, I hid it because it isn't meant to be used and the only thing I used it for was to return mine and Al's bodies to their original state and that is all it was ever meant to be used for” Ed said looking down at his coffee.
“But this isn't about the stone for me this is about Winry and I, I love her and she loves me and when I was a part of the military I almost killed her with worrying and in my focus for the stone I never even noticed, and I'm not about to even contemplate putting her through that emotional hell again”.
Without even letting either of them speak Ed calmly placed his cup on the table, rose to his feet and marched from the living room. He noticed Winry standing in the kitchen doorway worry on her face. Taking her in his arms Ed hugged her to his chest and smiled softly at her. “My answers no, and it's final” he said without looking at Al or Roy.
“Fine” Roy said placing the cup in his hand on the table as Al joined him at the front door “just think about it…… Ed” he said leaving the house. “I won't have to” Ed said staring down into Winry's caring blue eyes.

“What's the matter Ed?”
Winry was completely naked straddling Ed hips as she stared down at him in worry. Normally he was very dominating when they made love, but tonight he seemed to be thinking about other things. “It's nothing” he said with a sigh his eyes staring at the ceiling.
“Don't give me that I know when something's on your mind” she whispered forcing him to look at her “your thinking about what Al and…… Mustang said earlier aren't you?” he could clearly hear the dislike in her voice for Mustang and it made a small smile grace his features.
The smile promptly fell from his face as she spoke “and you're actually considering what they asked you?” Ed gulped in nervousness. How could he tell her that he was seriously considering it if for no other reason then he alone had hid it. And if it was accidentally fell into the hands of one of his past enemies then they could come after him and hurt her.
He couldn't let that happen, he knew that if she was taken from him then he couldn't go on. He sighed “I don't see I have much of a choice” he whispered. “What?!” she growled virtually jumping off him and scooting over to the farthest part of the bed from him.
“I can't believe your thinking of breaking the promise you made to me to go and chase after that stone again” she said glaring at him. Rising to a sitting position Ed wrapped his arms around her and felt her half heartedly pulling away from him. “I don't see I have much choice” he whispered.
“If it ends up in the hands of one of my past enemies they could hurt you just to spite me, and I can't let that happen” he whispered soothingly voicing his deepest concerns. “But what about our wedding? Are you willing to miss that just to find that stone?” she said voicing her concerns.
Reaching out Ed took her slender hand in his and ran a finger over her wedding ring “of course not” he said turning her to face him “I would never, never miss that come heaven or hell I'll come back in time for that, even if it means halting the investigation for a couple of months just to marry you and go on our honeymoon” he said pulling her close to him.
He felt the wash of her hot breath against his chest as she struggled to hold back tears. Leaning back he cupped her face in his hands and gently wiped away the few tears that had fallen down her face. He kissed her slowly and softly trying to hold back his own tears of anguish.
After all the worrying and despair he had unknowingly put her through in the past, how could he actually put her through those same emotions five years later? Even if he was doing it to maintain her safety in the long run it still clawed at his heart making him hate himself for his decision.
He felt Winry sigh into his chest; it rippled through his whole body. He didn't deserve her and never had. And yet he loved only her; and would never even contemplate trying to love another person. So why did he still feel this great clawing sensation in his chest?
“Okay” she whispered into his chest before looking up at him. “But if you're late, even by an hour….” Her voice trailed off as she pointed a finger and pouted at him like a teenager. “I won't be late what so ever, I swear on my soul” he said staring into her eyes to show her how much he meant it.
“That's all I ask” she said snuggling into his chest, their argument over and a nice long night ahead of them.
A/U: Well there's the second chapter. I'm happy with it and it starts to show where Ed's angst is going to be coming from. I'm also happy with how I've managed to turn Roy from protagonist to antagonist in such a short space, well not really. As for Al? Well I can't reveal everything at once any way please let me know what you think with a review. Later….
