Chapter 7: Filths Fury, Ambush in ya backyard!
“I know the name of who you seek”
The homunculus had a sing song voice that made Ed shudder in disgust. Everything about this creature disgusted him; he seemed to represent pure physical revulsion. “Do you now?” Ed `asked' with a sneer firmly spread across his features. “Yes I do…. Full Metal”.
It broke into a maniacal laughter its head tipping backwards. Behind the cackling howl of lunacy Ed could see the unnatural beauty `he' had once possessed. His face was thin, almost gaunt and his features so delicate. But how long had he buried that beauty under layers of filth and insanity?
“And do you mind just hurrying up and telling me who the hell you are?” Ed spat sick and tired of `his' mocking insane laughter. “Ah but of course how selfish of me my pretty ones, I am the one who can make your dreams come true many names have I had but you may call me….. Filth” he said between fits of laughter his voice silky smooth and disturbingly musical.
“So….. Filth, am I to assume all this is your handy work? And if so then who have you had covering your tracks?” Ed asked with a disgusted sneer. “Oh but of course” it said with a sick smile “but the answer that you seek, within my heart of secrets it sleeps” Ed snarled at its mocking nursery rhyme of insanity.
“Then stop screwing around and tell us already” Ed snarled through gritted teeth, “oh I can tell you” it said its voice becoming an ashen crackling whisper that grated against Ed's nerves “but first you must swear allegiance to me, and in return I shall hand to you all the things of this world you have ever desired, the power the wealth and the happiness” it said its voice becoming a silky whisper as it tried to hide the sickening vile truth of its offer.
“Then we have a problem” Ed said stepping away from its out stretched hand “because I already have everything I could ever want” he said smirking “so by that token I'm afraid that this means I'll be pulling that name from your dying bodies last breath”.
“So sad” it cackled its eyes glinting with the depths of its unspoken madness “then you must DIE!” it hollowed launching itself at Ed. It hands were like skeletal talons, its finger nails blackened with grime claws, its eyes were filled with a lunatics fury and its cracked yellow teeth were bared in animalistic hatred.
Its fury was beyond doubt, but it was clumsy in its attack. Ed side stepped it with ease clearing a path for……. WHAM. It was engulfed in a wall of flame that incinerated its tatty rags of clothing and set fire to its unkempt hair. A wave of rising earth smashed into it barrelling it over.
With a nod to Al and Roy Ed transmuted his automail arm into a blade and slamming his metal foot against its chest pinned it to the ground. “Now tell me that name” he whispered through gritted teeth bringing the point of his blade to rest against its Adam's apple.
Mocking laughter greeted him carrying with it the stench of a burnt homeless corpse left to rot in the uncaring sun “you three take me for a weakling? I have survived far worse then the three of you can ever muster” it spat at him, its voice full of venomous mocking laughter.
Ed slashed its throat open ear to ear. “Ahh, how sweet your innocence is, you really believe you can stop me so easily?” as it begun to rise up Ed was shocked by the inhuman strength its thin frame could muster as it shoved Ed backwards almost throwing him off his feet.
Blood gushed from its open throat its almost severed head lulling to the side as it studied Ed with something that nearly approached sanity. As Ed watched the wound in its neck begun to stitch itself back together “Just remember, I offered you a chance to avoid your death”.
With one monstrous leap it literally flew over their heads and disappeared off the edge of the near by cliff.
The car rolled down the main street connecting the cities port to Western headquarters.
Ed watched the busy pedestrians bustle from store to store. His golden eyes lazily moving from one person to the other. “Brother?” Ed slowly raised his head from where it rested against his hand; “yeah?” he asked half heartedly as Al and Roy looked at him questioningly.
“How old would you say that homunculus was?” Ed sighed, “How the bloody hell would I know that? Given how insane it clearly was I'd say at least a hundred or so years” Ed looked past Al at the road ahead. He really didn't care about that crazy beast, he just wanted to hurry up and-
His thoughts were cut off midway when a hunched over old lady in a black shawl stepped out into the middle of the road forcing the driver to slam on the breaks. Without his seat belt Ed would have been hurled forward, but as it was he merely whipped forwards and back suddenly.
Ed opened his eyes a jarring sensation rolling along his spine towards his brain; he was going to have a headache tomorrow no doubt about it. He was about to wind down the window and yell at the old women something about `stupid old bats watching where their walking' when she looked up.
She wasn't an old lady at all, she was a disguised homunculus! “Everybody out!” he yelled grabbing Al and Roy by the collars and kicking the door open. Hurling himself and them out of the car as the homunculus hurled itself through the windshield, razor sharp claws decapitating the driver in one swift movement.
Looking up Ed felt the jarring sensation from the car whip-lashing him mingle with the new scraps from the doggy gravel road he had received to make his whole body ache. “Bastard” he muttered under his breath, not really referring to anyone in particular.
Groaning he stood up Roy and Al before standing up as well. As the sleek female homunculus stepped out of the car discarding her disguise she regarded all three of them with a cold steely gaze, her eyes an emotionless grey. “You three have been sentenced to death” she said.
“Yes kill them, kill them!” voice after voice said as homunculus after homunculus threw off disguises and surrounded them. “Dam it Mustang, I thought you said we weren't going to be alone on this” Ed growled transmuting his arm to a blade as the three of them stood back-to-back in fighting stances.
“I thought we weren't, but their taking their sweet time getting here” Roy said eyes moving from target to target swiftly evaluating which one to go for first. “Well maybe if General lazy ass here hadn't avoided the paperwork we could have all started this investigation together rather then being stuck like this right now” Ed growled in frustration.
“Can this wait guys, we have a bit of a situation here remember?” Al said without looking back his eyes already having selected his first target. “You should listen to your brother Edward Elric and make peace with your General and god while your at it, since none of you will be walking away from this” the female homunculus said stepping forward her grey eyes hovering on Ed who simply smirked at her.
“If it's alright with you I'll skip all that since I doubt you can put me down for the count” he said eyes glittering dangerously. “You stupid brat” she hissed “your outnumbered, surrounded and under prepared, you can't possibly think you'll survive this” she glared at him.
Ed couldn't help but burst out laughing the homunculus, Roy and Al all looking at him in slight surprise “lady do you have any idea, even the slightest motion of how much time I've spent taking on your kind? I know more about you all then you know yourself, and as such I know that-“
He clapped his hands together and slammed them against the ground, before she could even move the homunculus had been transmuted into a statue of pure iron “your bodies have far higher iron concentrations then a human, making you all suseptical to those kinds of alchemy transmutations”.
His eyes moved from one homunculus to the next as he straightened out his coat “now who else wants a fight?” he `asked' confidently. A sound like a hundred mewling kittens reached his ears making him grin ear-to-ear “see Mustang, take out the head and the body crumbles” he said without looking over his shoulder.
“Don't get cocky yet alchemist” a voice called out. The crowd of stunned, scared homunculi parted and cleared room for……. A giant? Ed shook his head, this one was huge, it'd even give Armstrong a run for his money! “Before you go hurting my brethren, you must….” It paused mid speech and threw off the black robe around its shoulders revealing an inhumanly muscular body “DEAL WITH ME!” it roared.
Ed and Roy looked at each other to see who would be game enough to take on this giant beast. “Well come on then, are none of you game enough to take me on?” it asked gloatingly.
As if to answer it a series of alchemic explosions tore through the excited crowd of homunculus. “Perhaps you would be better suited to picking on someone your own size” a deep baritone voice called out through the smoke. As the smoke cleared Ed already knew who it was.
Sure enough Armstrong was standing there striking a pose bare chested. “Or perhaps you are simply a coward like the rest of your `brethren'?” he asked mockingly gesturing to the homunculi that lay on the ground like broken rag dolls. With one clap of his hand Al transmuted the stunned homunculi and the other assembled homunculi straight into small cages trapping them all.
“Who you calling scared mortal?” the massive homunculus `asked' ignoring the cries of help from his `brethren'. Armstrong moved towards the homunculus cracking his knuckles as he eyeballed the homunculus with that cool calm stare of his “enough talk, let us see if you can match the perfection of the Armstrong lineage!” he shouted bringing his fist down against the cracked gravel road.
Spike after spike of earth shot out in a straight line from Armstrong towards the homunculus. It was a wonderfully refined use of alchemy, but easy to avoid which the homunculus did with a single step to the side. “Then how about another one?” Armstrong said repeating the process.
Ed smirked as he watched Armstrong use alchemic attacks to put the homunculus on the back foot, he had seen him do it a hundred times and it always almost worked every time. Almost but not quiet, this is why the last few times Ed had been the one to finish off the enemy.
Seeing that this clearly wouldn't work Armstrong decided to put that body of his to work and locked `horns' with the homunculus. “Maybe we should you know….. Help him?” Ed said looking at both Roy and Al. “The lieutenant Colonel knows what he's doing Full Metal, but if you want to try and go up against that-“ Roy gestured with a nod of the head towards the giant homunculus “be my guest” he said smirking at Ed with that smug grin of his.
“Ah, I-I think I'll ah…… Wait to answer on that one” Ed said nervously scratching the back of his head. “Well I won't!” Al said not waiting to get involved in the struggle of strength before them. “Al wait!” Ed shouted reaching out towards his brother “DAM IT!” he shouted running forward to intervene before Al could get his innards plastered across the road by the massive homunculus.
Clapping their hands together both Elric's unleashed a simultaneous alchemic attack just as the homunculus overpowered Armstrong and slammed him to the floor. As strong as the homunculus clearly was their attack merely stunned him as they had `planned' leaving enough time for Ed too…… Blow his brains out over the road as he had done the homunculus on the boat.
This time however there was no self doubt about wether or not this was the right thing to do, there wasn't even a hint of such doubt. He merely did it, and to his surprise found it so easy to do. After all it was a homunculus, his natural enemy and sent to kill him and those close to him so it deserved death right?......
A/U: Oh is it too open ended? Sorry but I already have the next chapter sketched out in my mind and I need to leave this one open ended to lead to Ed's problems in the next and possibly one after chapter(s) so that answers that. Anything else I'll gladly answer with an e-mail if you post it in a review, come on people 104 hits and not one review? This won't do! But since I can't do anything about it I'll sit here and suck on it I guess, or maybe kill this fic right now? Later…..
