I Would Die for You - Epilogue
By: Kirby Hiwatari
Alright, I had wrote this after I read through the story and was debating on posting it
I fell that even though this is the best way to post this piece.
Hope you all enjoy. ^-^

It had been two weeks since Alphonse had left. Edward looked at the two sheets of paper he held.
He found the one from Alphonse the day he had left and received the other from Central about a week later.
He read them everyday, at least three times. Even though he knew what they said he still read them like it
was the first time he had seen them. He still couldn't fully take in what was incased in the letters.
He sat in the chair starring out the window, just as he did every morning with the mail, he opened the first
envelope and unfolded the letter inside. He took a deep breath and started to read.
"Edo-
I'm so sorry, bother. I know you don't want me to but I'm going to. I wouldn't be able to
live with myself if I didn't.
I'm going to fight for you.
You've done so much for me. Fought so hard to regain what I lost. To fix what I broke. It's
my turn to fight for you.
You gave up an arm and your childhood for me. That is something I could never give back to
you. There is no Equivalent Exchange for that. So I can only hope that I'll be able to
save you from any more pain.
I'll come back, there is too large of a debt for me not to. I couldn't leave you now. I owe
you so much. I have so much more to do.
Brother, I love you. I love you so much.
No matter what happens, that will hold true. No matter how mad you get, even if you never
speak to me again. I promise to always love you.
I hope you will love me, too.
See you soon,
Alphonse"
Edward's eyes were full of tears, and they ran freely down his face. His eyes were soon bloodshot and
his face was stained from all the tears he had cried.
Why had he never seen it? How did he not know he wasn't the only one with burdens to bear?
And to not see how heavy the one his brother carried was just foolish.
'Alphonse, you idiot. How could you. You said you'd come back, so where are you, Brother?' Edward's
mind slowly thought, tears still falling. 'I will always love you too, Aru.'
He slowly folded the letter up and placed it back in its envelope. He placed it on the coffee table
next to him and picked up the second letter from his lap. This one was much worse then the first. He
slowly opened it, not really wanting to read it.
"Major Edward "FullMetal" Elric -
Our deepest apologies for not realizing your brother, Sergeant Alphonse Elric, was
impersonating you during the previous battle in this war.
You also have our deepest regret for our having to inform you that Sergeant Alphonse
Elric was killed in action.
We will send along more information as we receive it..."
Edward could read no more. The letter gently flouted out of his hand and to the floor. He read the
worst part, and that was whole reason he had opened the letter.
He had received other letters. One said that the bodies of the fallen soldiers had been retrieved
and his brother's body was among those that returned, and another that said even thought he disobeyed
direct orders he was to be part of the Military funeral. He had also received a promotion for his
bravery and courage. He would be buried as Sergeant Major.
He learned there had been many promotions since the war when he attended the funeral that afternoon.
Ms. Riza Hawkeye and Sir Jean Havoc were the most familiar faces he saw. Both approached the younger
man and gave him there regards and he gave them his.
They told of how only three soldiers came back, severely wounded and one had already died. Riza explained
that she had been promoted to Colonel and was to replace Roy and the Jean was now a Lieutenant Colonel,
surviving Riza as she had done before him.
He gave them his regards and they stood together as the funeral began.
Edward spent the day with his brother. Eventually the sun began to set and he said his goodbye and quietly
said his goodbyes to Roy, Armstrong, Fuery, and even Falman, who was sent in after the first line fell.
The next day he left his official notice of leave in with Central, since he no longer had Alphonse with him
he felt no need to continue working. They sadly agreed to allow his release.
Edward returned to his home, with Winry and Pinako, though he knew he could never be the same and never be
as good as he was. It was because of Aru he was so strong. It was FOR Aru he was strong. He would continue
on though, he would not let Aru's sacrifice be in vain. But could he really live on? Can you live when your
heart feels so cold?
Edward looked ahead of him as he approached the house, he could see them waiting. Pinako, Winry, and even Den
were there, Winry's arm like a flag waving for him to join them.
'Yeah,' He thought 'One day I will be able to live again. And that too will be for Aru.'
Even with that thought his mind still screamed:
Why Alphonse, why did you have to die for me?
