It was a moonless night. Two figures wearing military uniforms walked into the Central Headquarters at 9:25pm. They were stopped but they flashed silver pocket watches and they were allowed to proceed. The walked up the steps and just as they got to the door a figure came dashing out and ran into the shortest one.

“I'm sorry sir, I didn't see you.” The man apologized.

“Who you callin so short that you'd need a magnifying glass to see!” She shouted.

“Sister calm down it's Colonel Hughes…” the other figure said.

“Ha ha you sound just like a friend of mine,” Hughes told her. She smiled and dusted off her pants as she stood up.

“Sir!” The taller one said as she saluted him.

“At ease, I was on my way out, say I haven't seen you two here before, what department are you with? And who are you?” he asked. With what he just found out he had to be on his toes.

“Sir my name is Major Aleena Fields.” She stood at attention.

“And my name is Colonel Edonna Fields; we are with the East City branch.” A small lie not that he could tell. Only Maes could.

“What brings you to Central ladies?” Hughes asked. He knew they were lying; the only Colonel in the East was Roy. He fingered one of his daggers.

“We are here on strict orders to escort you to your destination, nothing more,” Colonel Edonna told him. He looked into her eyes and for the first time he noticed how similar she and Edward appeared.

“Are you related to the Elrics?” He asked. Aleena looked over at her older sister and sent a `what now?' look. Edonna just smiled.

“No sir I'm afraid not, if you don't mind we will be escorting you.” Edonna told him. He looked at Aleena and then to Edonna.

Should I trust them? Why would they lie about being from east city? They might be homunculi…Hughes thought to himself. Then it hit him

“Who gave you those orders?” Hughes asked.

“Sir, we are not at liberty to say.” Edonna looked at Aleena she glared daggers at her.

“Colonel Mustang sent us,” Aleena told him and Edonna growled. That was odd. The homunculi didn't know they were friends so he figured it was safe to go with them. Or so he thought.

“I'm just heading on my way to meet up with Dr. Marco,” when he said that both sisters looked at each other with wide eyes.

“Alright, then we'll come with you if you don't mind.” Aleena asked him. Of course it was his option. He outranked one and the other well she was too determined.

“Fine, but lets hurry I think I'm going to be late anyway.” He said as he started running down the street. The followed quickly behind him.

“Sir we'll wait outside, go ahead and talk to Dr. Marco.” Edonna told him. He nodded and walked inside as they waited for him. A few minutes later gunshots could be heard and he came dashing out with another person. Edonna and Aleena hid in the shadows. A shot rang out and they stood perfectly still. Waiting about five minutes they ran up to Hughes and Edonna picked him up. Both women looked around to see if anyone had seen them and they rushed off to their base.

Maes Hughes woke up an hour later with a piercing pain in his side. He looked down and saw that he had been bandaged up but no blood was noticeable. That wasn't possible, he had been shot. But he had been a little heavier when he had but that wouldn't explain what had happened. He looked around and saw a door. It was cracked and he could hear two people talking.

“The mission was a success, we should leave before he wakes up, Furor Mustang will be pleased to know, oh by the way how did you get that bullet proof vest on him. We didn't stop or anything?” It was Aleena he could tell it was her.

After a few blocks and Edonna knew the inn was getting close she snapped her fingers and everything stopped moving. She looked over at her sister. Edonna stripped her jacket off revealing a bullet proof vest then walked up to Hughes who was still frozen with time and took off his jacket. Placing the Bulletproof jacket that she had been wearing on him she then put his jacket back on then got back into her original spot. She undid the time freeze. The continued on like nothing had happened.

“Oh so that's how you did it, what did you use, the Philosopher's Stone?” He peeked in and saw Edonna shake her head.

“No I used ignition gloves and the Time Array on the back of them, The Philosopher's Stone is for the Elrics you know that.” Edonna told her. Edonna screamed out and grabbed her right shoulder.

“What happened? Is it your automail again Sister?” Aleena asked her.

“Yeah, but there's something I haven't told you, I want to get you home first,” Edonna told her.

These two must be insane! They're talking as if they are from another time… Maes thought to himself.

“Tell me now Sister I need to know!” Aleena said a little louder than she meant to. Edonna growled at her.

“Be quiet, you'll wake him up! No, I'll not tell you till we are back home!” She whispered at her.

“Please Sister…I want to know…” Aleena made a sad face and Edonna sighed.

“Once I give the Philosopher's Stone to the Elrics, I probly won't be able to make it back home,” Edonna told her. Aleena's eyes went wide.

“No I can't let you stay here stranded by yourself, I'll come with you!” Aleena told her.

“Aleena! Enough of this nonsense. You have to go home, Colonel Furry is waiting for you, and he loves you!” Edonna told her. Tears started streaking down Aleena's face.

“What will I do with out you Sister?” Aleena asked her.

“You will live your life without me just as you should have before the Transmutation, I'll not stop you from living the life you should have had.” She looked down at the table.

“No, you can't do this on your own, or is there something else you don't want me to know?” Aleena asked looking at her sister with eyes of concern.

“I-I can't tell you, I'll be court marshaled if they find out,” Edonna told her. Aleena smiled.

“You're in love with one of the guys on the list and you went out on a date with him didn't you?” Aleena asked she knew her sister all too well.

“Well I wouldn't say `In Love' per say I-I broke the rules and I'll have to stay here and make sure that my actions don't disrupt the current this world is based on.” Edonna told her.

“Sister, I can't leave you here alone you know that right?”

“Yes you can, and you will,” Edonna told her. Aleena looked to the door and her eyes widened.

“H-how l-long have you been awake?” Aleena asked mortified that Maes had overheard them talking.

“Long enough for `Furor Mustang will be pleased'.” Maes said as he walked into room. Both women paled.

“What are your real names, and who do you work for.” Edonna sighed and looked Maes in the eyes.

“My name is Edonna Elric and this is my younger sister Aleena Elric. We work directly for Furor Mustang the Third.” Edonna told him.

“So you say you're from the future huh? Tell me what would have happened if I had not been wearing a bulletproof vest?” He asked them.

“In our time you were killed by a Homunculi named Envy on this night, the Furor ordered us to find and put you into Witness Protection. You were supposed to have a few more kids that would help turn the politics back into a Ruler nation.” Edonna told him.

“Are you State Alchemists?” he asked them and they both nodded their heads.

“I'm The Time Alchemist,” Edonna told him.

“And I'm The Chronis Alchemist,” Aleena told him.

“Well now that I know your secret are you going to let me live?” He asked them.

“We were supposed to kill anyone who found out but we also figured you to be a mastermind at this so we made the exception, can't kill someone you just saved can you?” Aleena told him and he nodded.

“So who have you fallen in love with? Is it Roy?” Maes asked and watched as she turned bright red.

“N-no, he's supposed to marry Hawkeye, however upon looking at several of the other personnel, I have discovered that one of them dies alone, poor soul.”

He mused out loud as he looked off to the side; out of the corner of his eye he caught his answer, she was blushing from head to toe. He grinned at looked over at Edonna.

“What's this about the Philosopher's Stone, how did you come by one?” Maes asked changing the subject.

“We used complied data from various sources one being Edward Elric's Alchemic Journal. Then we found a safer non-lethal way to make one. Unfortunately we were only successful in making one.” Aleena told him.

“What is there to gain by giving the Elric's the Philosopher's Stone?” Maes asked.

“Edward Elric is our great grandfather, after reading his journal we saw that his life was full of strife and misfortune, so we decided to make the stone and give it to him. But he had no use for it in our time because he was dead so I devised a way to travel through The Gate and arrive at a certain point and time. We have been here several times watching out for the entire group. There were only a few things we were allowed to change. One when Roy was five he should have been hit by a car and died, you where there, but we came from the future and healed him using the Philosopher's Stone. Everything else, Edward's mother dieing, The Transmutation, had to be left alone so we would be able to successfully make a Philosopher's stone to be able to travel in time. If we had interfered we would not exist and the entire world would implode.” Edonna told him.

“I see, complicated stuff.” Maes said all the while asking himself if he had lost it or if this was real. So many questions he had yet to ask but he was waiting for the right time to ask them.

“We were also sent here to destroy the Homunculi and their master,” Aleena informed him.

“We have found the remains of the oldest of them. Envy. We have to kill them before Edward finds them so we can give him the Philosopher's Stone and not have Dante steal it. Speaking of Edward, he's on his way to Rush Valley as we speak, we should intercept the Homunculi and destroy them and their Master before he gets back.”

“What about me? Am I safe to go back home or will they hunt and kill me?” Maes asked them. Edonna looked at him with sorrowful eyes.

“It's best you stay in hiding until the Homunculi are destroyed and their Master taken care of. We will come and inform you when you are safe to journey back home. However I will erase your memory so you won't have any information that could be harmful for both this time and our time. Don't worry I will only erase what you heard tonight you will remember me just not what I did, and you will not remember Aleena because she's going back to our time.” Edonna said as she slipped on her gloves.

“Time for the mission to begin.” Edonna told Aleena.

“Yes Colonel Elric Ma'am!”

Ooooo long chappy! They are all going to be this length from now on. The short chapters where short because I wanted to separate each individual time and occurrence. The story will progress from this time. Well I hope somebody out there likes this story. I got this idea from 12 Monkeys or something like that. Yami No Kaeko.
