Chapter 4: Alchemy Exam
A few weeks later, I was awoken one morning by a large yellow puffball. “Alexander, go away.” I whined, trying to push the large golden retriever off me. The only response I got was a very wet tongue on the face. “Okay, okay. I'm up. Are you happy now?” The dog just barked. Sighing, I stood, walking zombie-like to the bathroom. After a nice long hot shower, I felt awake enough to join the living. When I entered the kitchen I noticed that there was nobody there. Oh not this again. Walking over to the counter I found a note stating that Mr. Tucker was out on some errands and that Ed, Al, and Nina were at the State Building because of the exam…. THE EXAM!!!! Looking at the calendar, I screamed. The Alchemy Exam ends in ten minutes!! Running back to my room, I pulled on a red tank top and my black pants. Grabbing a piece of toast, I locked the door and ran to the State Building.
When I arrived there, the Alchemist had just been let out. Sighing with relief, I ran over to Nina. “Big Sister!!” She shouted, getting dirty looks from the older more sophisticated adults. Rolling my eyes, I picked her up and started to spin, receiving more dirty looks. Turning to the people, I glared. “Do you have a problem?” I snapped, not giving them anytime to answer. “Wait, don't tell me because I really don't care. If you don't like the fact that I'm playing with my little sister, suck it up and deal with it.” With that I turned back around to see Ed and Al leaving the building. Chuckling, I strode over to them and gave them the once over. Al, well, he looked like Al, but Ed looked like he had just ran the 100-meter sprint 20 times. “Was the test really that hard?” I asked, getting a ` what do you think' look from Ed. “I finished, but next is the physical exam.” Al said sadly. I knew he was scared about what would happen if he were found out. “ I didn't finish and my arms feel like rubber.” I smirked at Ed's complaint. Setting Nina down I walked over to him and pulled him into a hug. “Poor baby.” I cooed in a high-pitched voice, “Do you want me to kiss it and make it better.” Looking down I saw him blushing and burst out laughing. “My god, Ed. Did you think I was serious?” I smiled as he growled. “Feiona.” He spat. “Yes Edward?” I asked sweetly. “Run.” I didn't need to be told twice.
My laughter could be heard throughout the courtyard as I ran from the blond Alchemist. Being that I was in such a good mood, I decided to egg him on a bit. “ Come on Ed. I know you can run faster than that, or maybe it's because your legs are so short.”
“WHO ARE YOU CALLING MICROSCOPIC!!!!” Shaking my head, I giggled. I knew he would over exaggerate. My steady run was interrupted when I ran head on into a solid object. “Where did this wall come from?” I asked myself, looking at the object I ran into. Upon looking up, I met a pair of amused onyx eyes. “He he. Hi there Lt. Colonel Mustang, sir.” I squeaked, blushing. The `object' I ran into was none other than Roy Mustang. Hearing a shout, I suddenly remembered that I was running from Ed.
Glancing behind me I saw him coming closer. “Ummmm. It was nice to see you again. Gotta go. Bye.” I said quickly, turning around to run. Before I had a chance to run away, I VERY strong arm wrapped around my waist and pulled me to an EXTREMLY muscular chest. “Now why is Ed running after you?" The Lt. Colonel breathed into my ear. Blushing I tried to pull away but sadly the man was just too strong. “Um could you let me go please.” I asked sweetly, hoping beyond hope that he would let me go. Luck was not with me because not even three seconds later, Ed was directly in front of me. “Hello Feiona.” He greeted with a sly smile on his face. Oh boy, I did not like that smile one bit. “Hi Ed.” I squeaked, squirming in Roy's arms. “So Ed, why was she running from you?” Even though I couldn't see it, I know he had an equally unnerving smile on his face. “Lt. Colonel.” I called.
“Yes?”
Smiling I looked over my shoulder. “If you ever want me to call you by your first name and not your title, you'd let me go and not help Ed.” I felt his grip loosen and I cheered in my head. I won. Turning, I sent a large smile to the man. “Thanks Roy!!” I called out, than ran like the devil was behind me. Oh wait he was and his name was Edward Elric. What I didn't see was the contented smile on Roy's face at me calling him by his first name.
Ed gave up on chasing me after about an hour. I knew my soccer skills would come in handy some day. That night at the Tuckers, I kept my distance from the blond. “So Ed, Al. Are you two ready for tomorrow?” I asked, taking a bite out of my pork chop. “I'm sure Ed will do fine.” Al said, his voice somber. “Al…” I started, only for him to stand and leave the table. I wanted to shoot myself. I completely forgot how Mustang tells Al to drop out. Standing up I motioned for Ed to sit back down. “You need your strength. Eat. I'll talk to him.”
Seeing him sitting on the porch, I almost cried. Hasn't this boy suffered enough? Frowning, I sat next to him. “You know what?” I stated, looking u at the stars. “You remind me a lot of my little brother.” He turned to me surprised. “You have a little brother! Where is he?” He asked, excited. Smiling sadly, I turned to him. “He's back at my home.” Just thinking of him brought tears to my eyes. How was he doing, my little Alex? I've been gone for almost six months now.
“What's your brother like?”
Smiling, I gazed back to the sky. “He's a dork, brat, sneaky little punk, and one of the best little brother's you can have.” Standing up I put a hand on Al's shoulder. “Whenever I was sad, or hurt he would do everything he could do to make me happy. There was this one time that I got in this huge fight with a girl at my school and by huge I mean huge.” I chuckled remembering that day. “ I was sitting in my English class when she came over and shoved me saying that I stole her boyfriend and that I was whore like my mother. I can accept people insulting me but when they insult my family they crossed the line. So I stood and punched her in the stomach and then kneed her in the face. They had to call in the football coaches to hold me down. When Alex found out what happened, he marched to the girl's house and kicked her in the shin. It was so cute.” Walking so I was standing in front of him I made Al look me in the eye. “ That's how you remind me of him Al, because I know you'd do anything for Ed and never loose that.” Bending over I placed a kiss on his cheek and went back into the house.
Ed passed the physical exam, so today was the final exam. Gazing up at the building I placed my hand on Ed's shoulder causing him to look at. “Show them what you've got.” I cheered. Grinning, he straightened his shoulders, and took a step towards the testing grounds only to be stopped by Nina. “Wait!!!” She shouted running to him. “Here.” She handed him a picture that had all of us in it with a transmutation circle above us all. “It's a magic circle to make your wishes come true.” Wiping his eyes, Ed smiled down at the girl. “Thanks Nina.” Giving us one last look, he entered the building.
Knowing that he would be in there for a while, I decided to window shop. I passed by clothing stores, machine shops and, I started to drool, a Chocolate shop!!! Squealing, I entered the shop and looked at there collection. Every fudge imaginable was for sale in here. Finally choosing the white/milk/dark chocolate fudge, I paid for it and left. As I headed back to the State Building, a woman with long black hair ran into me. Mumbling an apology, she continued on her way. I shrugged not think anything about it. Seeing a petal fall I looked into the sky to see a large wreath of flowers floating in the air. That's my Ed. Taking a bite of my fudge, I met the new State Alchemist at the doors. “Knew you could do it.” I stated, winking at him.
