Chapter Three: That Which Lingers In The Darkness

Two dark forms watched the sleeping couple in silence. An evil grin crossed it's face as it thought of what the female of the couple had done during the war. She had been a merciless killing machine slaying all enemies in her path.

 

“Now that the Dragonfly has been found, I think our plan can begin, what do you think Lust?” The Figure asked the other.

 

“Yes, that would be a great idea Pride; I think you should go inform the Boss.” She said then the two forms leapt off the building they were spying from and disappeared into the darkness.

 

“What have you been getting yourself into Roy?” A figure said. He had been watching the other two.

 

“Roy and his new lover are in danger and it is time for me to come out of the shadows.” The figure said as he climbed down the wall and walked up to Roy's door step.

 

“He's going to be surprised to see me,” the man laughed as he knocked on the door.

 

 

Roy rolled over and opened his eyes. He had had a dream about his dead friend Maes Hughes and was trying to back the tears. When a knock resounded through the house he got up and pulled his pants on.

 

“Who could be up at this hour?” Roy said as he walked down the hallway and then walked down the stairs. He finally made it to the door and opened it. Who he saw made him pale.

 

“M-Maes?” Roy asked. He almost thought he was having another dream when his friend grabbed him in a death hug and pulled out a picture.

 

“Have you see how cute you two look together while you sleep Roy?” Yep this was real; Roy's eyebrow twitched. How he had gotten that picture so fast was a wonder to him.

 

“Maes, I thought you were dead!” Roy said fighting back the tears.

 

“Yes Roy, but I need to come inside before someone sees me.” Roy looked around and pulled his best friend inside and locked the door.

 

“Who is it Roy?” Terri said as she walked down the hallway in one of Roy's robes.

 

“Maes?” She was in complete shock. Brigadier General Maes Hughes was alive and standing in their living room.

 

“I faked my death to get the Homunculi off of my trail. I know it was a dirty trick but I had to make sure I wasn't found out even if it meant keeping you and Gracia in the dark.” Maes told them. He sat down in Roy's chair and ran is hand through his hair and fixed his glasses. Roy looked at his friend and then did the most out of character thing he had ever done. He fell to his knees and started to cry.

 

“Roy?” Terri said as she placed her hand on his shoulder. A faint gleam of silver caught Maes' eye.

 

“Is that Automail?” Maes asked. Terri looked at him then looked to the ground.

 

“If this is a dream, please don't wake me up,” Roy said as he placed his hand over his eye.

 

“Sorry I forget your name what was it?” Maes asked. Terri looked up and scowled at him.

 

“I can't believe you would forget my name, I've only been away for five years!” She turned her back towards him and huffed. She pulled down her robe slightly to reveal her Dragonfly tattoo.

 

“Terri?” Maes said with astonishment. Back in the day before he married Gracia Terri had given him a round or two in the sack.

 

“I haven't seen you since the war, how have you been?” Maes asked. Terri turned around and pulled her robe up. She smiled at him. Roy finally snapped out of his episode and hugged his friend fiercely.

 

“As you can tell, I'm doing quite fine, though I have to live with automail now, but that is ok.” She told him as she sat on the couch opposite from him. She pulled Roy into her lap.

 

“You know Roy, I've been watching you and I'd have to say that you are more happy around Terri than around anyone else.” Maes told him.

 

“So now that the Homunculi are gone, are you going to come out and tell everyone that you're alive?” Roy asked. Ignoring what Maes had said. Maes frowned.

 

“You see Roy, that's the problem, I saw two of them spying on you and Terri a moment or two ago. One called himself Envy and the other called herself Lust, I also heard Pride.” Terri gasped.

 

“You mean to tell me that Homunculi are real?” Terri asked. Roy and Maes looked at her.

 

“Yes, you know the whole issue about the Ishvarlan war? A Homunculi named Sloth snuck in as King Bradley's secretary. King Bradley was a Homunculi, I fought and killed him two years ago. He is the one who sent in a covert team to start the war.” Terri almost paled when she heard that.

 

“You mean they were playing us from the start?” She said with anger lacing every word.

 

“Yes, Edward has managed to seal all of the homunculi but if what Maes said is true than we have a new problem,” Roy said as he ran his hand through his hair.

 

“We'll need to call Edward up and tell him to come here immediately.” Maes told them.

 

“Roy you call Edward and I'll go get dressed, we need to take care of this before it gets out of hand, and Roy, get a shirt on will ya?” She said as she looked him up and down then smiled. Roy stood up to let her get up and she stole a quick kiss.

 

“Or you could just wander around with out one on, but then I would be temped to jump you while Edward is here.” She said as she started to walk off. She stopped then turned around and smacked Roy in the ass and fled up the stairs. Roy smirked in her wake and looked at his friend who had a serious look on his face.

 

“Head over heels, Roy that's what you are.” Roy sighed and sat down on the couch.

 

“I think she is hiding something from me. Did you see how she reacted when you mentioned that the Homunculi are back?”

 

“But you do trust her, wouldn't you keep her in the dark to protect her?” Maes told him.

 

Terri stood at the top of the stairs fully dressed with her mouth hanging open.

 

`How did he know?' She thought to herself. `I have to tell him but I'm afraid he'll reject me…'

 

“That's it I'm telling him…” She started to walk down the stairs when a hand grabbed her by the neck and another covered her mouth.

“Tell him what darling…” The oddly familiar voice whispered in her ear. Roy and Maes didn't hear her scream as the figure dragged her down the hallway and pulled her out the window.
