The flute was held tightly between his fingers as he descended the steps inside the high school building. It was the day of tryouts for the school Band, and he desperately hoped to be chosen. But who would choose him? He wasn't spectacular, but he wasn't horrible, either.
"Kaika?" A boy with long blond hair approached from behind and the first boy felt like he was looking into a mirror, until he just realized it was his twin.
"Hmm?" Kaika rose light brown eyes in question. "What is it?"
"I just saw someone . . ."
"So did I," Kaika snorted. "What's new about that, Suboshi? We see people every time we glance around the hallway."
Suboshi raised a hand, as if to smack him on the arm and changed his mind, easily bringing it to a light slap on the back of the head.
"Ouch!" Kaika yelped, taking steps away from his brother. "That hurt!!"
"Good," the blond smirked, and then turned serious. "But it was something about this person . . . it was . . ."
"I'm not going to tryout, Yui!" A girl's voice interrupted their discussion and Kaika's eyes went wide when he recognized the voice. "I'd drop it and mess everyone up. So no, I just can't!!!!!"
"Miaka," a second voice said sternly, "at least try! I'm still not sure *why* you decided to play the flute, of *all* things, but I'm trying out, so you should, too!"
"The voices . . ." Kaika whispered. Suboshi sighed.
"That's what I've been trying to tell you! Its Yui-san and Miaka! We're *here*!"
"B-but *how*?" Kaika wondered. "I . . ."
"There's probably a reason why we we're allowed to remember," Suboshi whispered.
"I don't think they'd remember us, though, so lets just go to tryouts." Kaika sighed sadly. "Wait, are you going to try out?"
Suboshi's eyes lightened, and he shook his head. "I don't think so; I'll leave band for you. I'll check out this school's sports."
Disappointed, Kaika nodded. "Alright. Seeya, Suboshi."
Grinning cheekily, Suboshi called, "Later Amiboshi!" over his shoulder and disappeared around the corner.
Kaika took one last glance at his hands, which were holding the flute so tightly between his fingers, and sighed before continuing his walk. What an interesting tryout *this* would be . . .

Kaika walked through the doors of the band room, and was instantly met with a roaring chatter. The room was packed of students from all three grades and Kaika was unsure where to sit. There weren't many empty seats. He paused as he caught the sight of a purple haired girl that looked vaguely familiar. //Nuriko?// he wondered. Shrugging it off, his eyes continued the path of the room, looking for Miaka or Yui. Finally he spotted them sitting together in the corner, talking quietly. Well, Yui was. Miaka's giggles could be heard clear across the room. Taking a chance, he wove between people who were standing around, talking and gossiping about people he didn't know, or care to know.
"Excuse me," he said, politely. Yui stopped talking to glance up at him, Miaka following suit. "Is this seat taken?" he gestured to the seat next to Miaka.
Miaka's green eyes were intently studying him. Yui shoved her shoulder, and she blinked, her eyes clearing almost instantly. "Oh," she squeaked, embarrassedly. "Its not. Sit, sit . . ."
Kaika flashed her a charming smile of thanks. "So, nervous about the tryouts?"
"Hai," she muttered, blushing slightly. "I don't belong in band; I'm such a . . ."
"Klutz?" Kaika innocently asked. Miaka's eyebrows rose suspiciously.
"Yes, how did you know that?"
"It was written in the stars," he offered. Miaka's eyes narrowed at this, but she didn't comment.
They sat in silence for several moments, before Yui asked, tentatively. "Have we met you someplace before? You look rather familiar." Miaka nodded in silent agreement.
"Yes," Kaika nodded. "But, I can't say where, at least not here." Yui glanced around, noticing the number of people she *didn't* know well. There were quite a few.
"Why don't we just forget about band and go get something to eat and you can explain there?"
Kaika took a last glance around the school, and then nodded. "Alright. I didn't want to be in band that badly, anyway. By the way, I'm Kaika."
At the name, Miaka's eyes widened a last time, and she whispered breathlessly, "Amiboshi . . .?"
Kaika grinned, "At you're services, my Mikos."
The former Miko gasped and Kaika found himself with an armful of Miaka as she wrapped herself around him in a hug, and began to cry softly. Kaika briefly wondered why. They hadn't known each other well, but he supposed if you got to come face to face with *any* of the people from a past life, you'd be happy. And as the warmth from her arms began to spread, he couldn't help but be glad. Maybe this was his second chance, all thanks to the stars.
