Chronicles Of The
Beast Gods
Chapter 2
Miaka and
the rest stood up and began to pack up camp.
"Hey Miaka, Yui, may I speak with you?"
Chichiri asked, suddenly.
Miaka and
Yui exchanged looks. "Sure." Miaka answered. He walked a bit away form the ground and turned to face the
girls. "What's up, Chichiri?"
Chichiri
reached into his robes and brought out two small orbs. One was blue and the other was red. "Taiisukun gave me these to give to you two,
ya know. They hold the last of her
power. This way, if you two are caught
I some kind of trouble, and none of us are there to protect you, you will have
some defense, ya know."
Yui
frowned. "How do they work?"
Chichiri
released the orbs from his grip and they floated in the air for a while, before
going to each girl, the red to Miaka and the blue to Yui. They became translucent and disappeared into
each girl's body. Both gasped and their
felt the power inside of them, and their aura become stronger.
"Thank you,
Chichiri." Miaka said.
"Don't
thank me…thank Taiisukun." He said,
solemnly, going back to the group.
Yui held
her hands over her heart, to try and calm it.
Miaka looked over at her friend. "Don't worry. We'll make it through this."
Yui turned
to Miaka. "What if I don't have what it
takes?"
Miaka bent
her brow in a worried expression.
"Don't talk like that, Yui. I lost you once. I will not lose you again.
Plus we have the Suzaku Seven and the Seiryu Seven. We can do this!"
Yui smiled
at her friend's confidence. "You're
right."
"So, no
more worries?" Miaka held out her pinky
finger.
Yui
interlocked her own. "No more worries."
"Would you
quit looking at me like that!" They
heard Soi growl loudly.
"I will if
you stop looking like you plan to back stab us or something!" Tamahome's voice retorted.
"I did as
Nakago told me, you ally boy, backwash, reject!" Soi shouted.
"Would you
two stop it already?" Amiboshi tried to
referee the two.
"NO!"
Amiboshi
sighed and went back to his flute playing.
Chichiri
sighed. "This is going to be a long
trip, ya know." He sweat dropped.
Tasuki, who
was half listening, grinned. "Oh, I
don't know about that. Me and the kid
here and getting along fine." He turned
to his 'friend'. "Rekka Shinen!" He fired a blast at Suboshi, who was off
to the side, and saw Suboshi easily flip over the attack.
"Ryuseisui!" He attacked with his weapon, and Tasuki
blocked it with his diamond fan. "Is
that all you got?"
Chichiri
rubbed his temples. "Would you two knock
it off?"
Tasuki
shrugged. "We were only 'sparing'." He
smirked.
Miaka and
Yui returned to the group and saw it in utter mayhem. They sweat dropped. Miaka
leaned into her best friend. "You take
the left, I got the right." Yui nodded
and headed off to Tasuki and Suboshi.
Miaka saw Tamahome and Soi fighting
still, so she went over to Amiboshi and whispered in his ear. Amiboshi smiled and nodded. He played a slow
moving tune on his flute, causing Tamahome and Soi to fall asleep, right then
and there.
Yui walked over to Suboshi, who
stopped fighting to watch her and saw her come over to him. "Suboshi…won't you stop fighting,
please?" She said sweetly.
Suboshi grinned and blushed
madly. "Of course, Lady Yui." He put his ryuseisui away immediately.
Tasuki whined. "Oh come on! I almost had him!"
Chichiri sighed. "We'll leave for Hokkan as soon as these two
wake up." He motioned over to Soi and
Tamahome, still sound asleep.
Miaka nodded. "A good idea." Then she stopped. "What
exactly are we looking for anyway? More
shinzahos?"
Chichiri shook his head as Yui
walked up. "Not this time. We are on a mission so fine the four oracles
of the beast gods. Each one represents
an element, and each one is located in each of the four kingdoms."
"We find all these and use them to
summon the beast gods once more?"
Chichiri shook his head. "We must take them to the Temple of The
Beast Gods, then use it there to summon them.
The only thing is, it's only a legend.
No one that I know of has ever even been there before."
Tasuki snorted. "Then we'll be the first to find it."
Suboshi nodded. "I agree with fang boy. We must find it to stop this Ladon guy."
"Fang boy?" Tasuki growled. "I dare you to say that again!"
He took out his fan.
Suboshi stuck out his tongue. "Fang boy!
Fang boy! Fang boy!"
"Why you-!"
"Suboshi!" Yui shouted.
"Tasuki!" Miaka shouted.
Both priestesses took deep
breaths. "Shut up!"
"I'm back!"
"Eh?" Miaka turned to see Nuriko walking up the short hill to their
camp. "Nuriko!" She shouted happily.
Nuriko smiled back. "Well who did you think it was?"
"Where did you go?" Miaka didn't even remember seeing Nuriko
leaving.
"I had to go down into town and get
some of us these robes with hoods, because unlike you living people, if we
showed up suddenly alive in the city, there'd be a lot of questions to
answer. So this way we're
inconspicuous."
Miaka frowned. "Where did you get the money for
these?" Nuriko wasn't one to steal, so
how…?
"I'll tell ya later." He winked and left it at that. Miaka blinked in confusion.
At the back of the group, Tasuki
opened his satchel of gold coins only to find it empty. "Hey!
Who stole my money!?"
Lelana looked at the figure as it
emerged from the shadows. She took a
sharp intake of breath, trying to hide her surprise at his appearance. He was…gorgeous. Behind her Miya gasped.
"W-who are you?" Her friend
asked.
The man, a tall, broad shouldered
teen, had short, dark blue hair and deep black eyes. "I am Ladon. I called you
to this world to become the new priestesses."
He put his hands at the small of his back and paced around the two
girls. "You see, I am a powerful
magician, a sorcerer if you will. I
only want to live in peace and give these people a life to appreciate. But another took most of my powers away,
leaving me weak."
Lelana raised an eyebrow. "How do we work into all of this? And how will this ruin Yuuki Miaka's
reputation!?"
"So impatient. By becoming the priestesses, you receive the
power to summon the beast gods. They
will grant you any three wishes you desire."
"Are Miaka and Yui here too?" Miya asked.
"Who cares?" Lelana said. "As soon as we do what this guy says, we'll crush them both!"
"Oh, but it does matter. For those two are also priestesses. Of Suzaku and Seiryu that is. They have warriors to aid them in their
journey. The Celestial Warriors are a
power to be reckoned with, as you will soon find out." Ladon explained.
"What about us?" Miya asked.
"Unfortunately, the original
warriors of Genbu died over 200 years ago, and the warriors of Byakko some 90
years ago." He closed his eyes. "Creons!"
Small black forms came out of the
ground and stood before their master.
"These are Creons. Although dead, the spirits of your celestial
warriors are still here. They will
borrow creon bodies to defend and protect you." The multiple shadows the girls saw before stepped out and the
Creons ran to them, making their bodies solid.
The reincarnated Genbu Seven and
Byakko Seven bowed before the new priestesses, pledging their loyalty. "We serve you and will fight to protect
you."
Lelana smirked. Miaka, you have finally met your match.
Amiboshi made a weird face as they walked down the
streets of Nasuko, a city inside the kingdom of Konan. "Where exactly do we start looking?"
"Why don't we ask around?" Soi suggested.
Tasuki crossed his arms and rolled
his eyes. "By the gods, she has brains
in that hot head of hers?"
Soi growled and touched the tip of
her staff to Tasuki's pants. Lightning
came out, making him scream and shoot into the sky. A trail of smoke followed him high into the air.
Miaka stopped short. High in the air… "That's it!"
Everyone turned to her, ignoring
the yelling Tasuki, who crashing into the ground nearby. "Did you figure it out? Tamahome asked.
"The Oracle for Suzaku is Wind,
right?" She asked.
Yui cocked her head to the
side. "Yeah, so?"
"So…wouldn't it be located at the
point closest to the sky?" Miaka
smiled.
"The highest point in Konan!" Yui caught on.
The warriors of Suzaku exchanged
looks.
"Where would the highest point in
Konan be?" Nuriko thought out loud.
Tamahome laughed and threw an arm
around Nuriko's back. "Nuriko, I know
being dead has taken its toll, but even you can't be that dense." Tamahome quickly found himself flying into a
local inn's wall, courtesy of Nuriko's fist.
Tasuki laughed. "Mt Reikaku, of course."
Nuriko looked up thoughtfully. "Oh yeah."
Chichiri nodded. "It makes sense, ya know."
"Soi doesn't do well in high
altitudes or cold weather." Yui
mentioned.
Tasuki started walking. "So let's leave her here!" He smiled.
Suboshi growled and threw his
ryuseisui forward. Since he didn't spin
them, they posed no real threat, but they effectively wrapped around Tasuki's legs,
dropping him unceremoniously to the ground.
"Think again, flame boy."
"I should be fine with my powers
increased." Soi said.
Amiboshi came up. "Are you sure?" She nodded.
Miaka smiled and jumped up. "Then let's go!" She started off.
"Um, Miaka…" Nuriko sweat
dropped. "It's that way." He pointed in another direction.
"Oh yeah, I knew that." Everyone laughed and started on their way.
While Nuriko and Tamahome looked
into getting horses for the trip, Miaka and Yui sat apart from the rest of the
warriors, having a talk of their own.
"So, you think she's here?" Yui asked.
"We both saw her enter through the
book. She has to be here." Her best friend replied. "I don't see how she knew about the Universe
Of The Four Gods in the first place."
Miaka gasped. "Do you think…?"
Yui nodded. "Those two might become
the next two new priestesses."
"Do we tell the others?" Miaka wondered.
"Let's wait. I doubt she'll be able to do much but
complain in a world like this." Yui
said. The two girls giggled.
Off to the side, Suboshi and
Amiboshi watched Miaka and Yui talk.
Amiboshi looked over at his brother knowingly. "You love her, don't you."
Suboshi gasped. "I…told her before. She doesn't feel the same."
"Are you sure? Did she saw she didn't feel anything for
you?"
Suboshi thought back…
The pot dropped to the ground, spilling the
precious water over the forest floor.
Suboshi had his arms around Yui, kissing her on the lips.
"Listen to me, Lady Yui. I love you." He told her.
"Let go of me, Suboshi!" Yui shouted.
"Suboshi, you have been told to leave the priestess
alone, haven't you? She is to remain
safe until she can call Seiryu." Tomo
said, coming out of the tree…
"She never did say anything about
it." Suboshi admitted.
"Then you still have a
chance!" His twin smiled.
Suboshi saddened in
realization. "But I'm dead…I am only
borrowing this body."
Amiboshi pat his brother on the
back sympathetically. "If Tamahome can
make miracles happen, and go into another world, there's hope for you yet."
Suboshi nodded and smiled.
"You guys ready over there!" Nuriko shouted.
"We're ready and waiting for you
two!" Tamahome laughed, helping Miaka
onto his horse and mounting on himself.
Yui went over to Suboshi and Amiboshi
took his cue to leave, winking at his brother as he left. "I'll ride with Soi." He ran off.
"Um…I hope you don't mind, but can
I ride with you? Miaka's riding with
Tamahome, Nuriko and Tasuki are together, with Chichiri going mini." She sweat dropped as Tasuki tried to move
the mini warrior out of "his spot".
"And I guess Amiboshi is with Soi, so…"
Suboshi smiled. "Sure.
It would be my pleasure." He led
Yui to the last horse and got on, then gave her a hand up. Yui mounted on behind him and wrapped her
arms around his waist, making him turn bright red.
Next to him, Amiboshi laughed at
his brother's face, and Suboshi closed his eyes and pushed…
Amiboshi was pushed off his mount
by Suboshi's telekinesis and landed hard on the floor.
Yui let out a laugh and Suboshi
couldn't help but smile.
After a long explanation of what
Lelana and Miya had to get in order to summon the beast gods, the two
priestesses, with their 14 warriors set out from their hidden land of Saiken
Sea…home of Ladon.
Suddenly, in front of Lelana, a
shadow appeared. She smirked. "Kokie, what new do you bring?" She addressed the Byakko warrior.
Kokie bowed. "Mistress Lelana. The Priestess of Suzaku and Seiryu along with their warriors,
have set off from Nasuko, and are headed towards Mt. Reikaku."
Lelana nodded. "I have you now, Miaka."
Miya came forward. "Shouldn't we start looking for the Oracles
of Land and Fire first?"
Another Byakko warrior, behind
Miya, nodded. He had long white-purple
hair and penetrating yellow-hazel eyes.
His name was Tokaki. None other
than Tamahome's old master made young.
"Honored Miya is right. We must
summon the gods as soon as possible."
Lelana rolled her eyes. "Very well.
Miya, go and take the Byakko Seven and begin search for the Oracle of
Fire."
"What about you?" Miya asked.
Lelana smirked. "I'm going to make a little visit to Miaka
and her pathetic caravan of protectors…"
"Let's stop and red for a
while." Tamahome suggested.
"Now all we need is firewood and we
can start dinner!" Miaka said happily.
"I do the cooking
then." Nuriko said, dismounting.
"Why don't you and Yui go gather
firewood?" Chichiri offered.
"Not a problem." Suboshi flipped off his horse in an amazing
show of acrobatics and landed silently on the floor. He took out his weapon.
"Ryuseisui!" He threw his weapon
forward and made multiple cuts in a nearby tree, quickly making a large pile of
firewood.
Tasuki took out his fan. "Rekka Shinen!" He 'missed' the pile of wood and toasted Suboshi instead.
A blackened Suboshi got up into
Tasuki's face. "Hey! That hurt you
orange haired, buck-toothed, whining brat!" He ground his teeth.
Tamahome slipped into the
argument. "You know, he always does
that when he holds a grudge against someone.
He did it to me quite a few times.
I'd say it's time for some payback."
Behind them, Chichiri snapped his
fingers and started the fire on his own.
Tamahome and Suboshi grinned widely
and devil horns appeared on their head.
Tasuki soon found himself screaming as he was being carried away,
hog-tied to a stick, on his way to being roasted over the open fire.
Chichiri and Soi sweat
dropped. "They remind you of a bunch of
kids, don't they?"
Soi nodded. "They really do."
After dinner, most everyone was asleep,
but Miaka couldn't sleep. She had too
much on her mind. She didn't want to
fight Lelana or Miya, even after all the mean things they had said to her. She hoped they were okay. She heard Amiboshi's flute and smiled. He always knew what music to play to sooth
the soul.
She carefully came over to
him. "Hey Amiboshi."
"Miaka. What are you doing up so late?"
The youth said.
Miaka shrugged and smiled. "I couldn't sleep I guess. Hey, I was wondering. Do you remember your life as Kaika? I vaguely remember Suboshi giving you some
of that forgetfulness juice, and I knew…you would be gone forever…" She
saddened.
"Well, actually yes. I was working in the fields when Taiisukun's
message came to me. She gave me back my
memory, and I once again left my mother and father to fight as a Seiryu
warrior." Amiboshi said. He
smiled. "And no one is gone forever. No
matter what happened, we'll always be friends, right?" He said.
Miaka smiled and nodded, holding
out her pinky finger. Amiboshi stared
at it in confusion. "Is this a custom
in your world?" He blinked.
Miaka giggled. "It's the way we seal promises. It's called a pinky swear, and next to blood
it's the most solemn promise you can make.
Friends forever?"
Amiboshi let out a laugh and
interlocked his pink in hers. "Always."
Suddenly, Amiboshi's magical senses
went off the chart and my mere instinct, he pulled Miaka to the side and
narrowly avoided two ice arrows that embedded themselves in the tree, right
behind where he and Miaka had just been.
"What?" Miaka turned and saw the warrior who had launched that arrow…and
she shook her head in disbelief. "No,
it can't be." Blue hair and small eyes
looked back at her and she felt her heart skip a beat. "Tomite?"
Six more warriors soon joined
Tomite.
Miaka recognized another of
them. "Hikitsu?" Even the white haired, eye patched celestial
warrior of Genbu did not recognize her.
"Why? You called us your
friends!" She shouted.
By now, the rest of the Suzaku
Seven and Seiryu Seven had awakened and made a wall in front of the two
priestesses. "Who are you!?" Suboshi demanded.
"We serve the new priestess of
Genbu!" Tomite said.
Yui and Miaka exchanged
glanced. "Oh no…"
"Your priestess died over 2
centuries ago!" Tamahome shouted.
"Then how would you explain
me?" Another voice said. Lelana stepped forward, and stood in front
of the Warriors of Genbu. "I am the new
priestess of Genbu, and I have come here to get rid of Yuuki Miaka!"
"Over our dead bodies!" Tasuki said, taking out his fan.
Lelana shrugged. "Fine, we'll do it your way." She snapped her fingers and her legion
stepped forward.
Among the new fighters a green
haired teen made a fist and got into a fighting stance. "I am Inami, A Celestial Warrior of Genbu."
The next was a woman with long
white hair and bright blue eyes. Her
hair was pulled up into a cute ponytail that fell down her left shoulder. "I am
Uruki. And I serve Mistress Lelana."
Behind Uruki came a short guy, only
about five feet, but his arm muscles greatly made up for his stature. "I am Urumiya." He introduced himself.
Another guy, who was even shorter
than Urumiya came forward and held before him a large staff, similar to
Chichiri's. "My name is Hatsui."
The last one was what caught
Miaka's reaction the most. He had long
blue hair, pulled into a loose ponytail and red-brown eyes. He snapped his fingers and black armor
covered his body, and a black sword appeared in his hands. "I am called Namame, and I will not be
defeated." He said with confidence.
Lelana smirked. "And I see you know Hikitsu and Tomite from
your reactions. I present to you the
Genbu Seven!"
Tamahome turned to Chichiri. "Protect the girls!"
Chichiri pulled Yui and Miaka away
from the impending battle. "You got it,
ya know!"
With a battle cry from Inami, the
Genbu Seven charged in and the Seiryu Seven and Suzaku Seven quickly engaged
them.
Tamahome and Soi surprisingly went
head on with Inami and Namame. Inami
faced off hand-to-hand combat with Tamahome, while Soi held her own with her
staff against Namame's sword. Tamahome
blocked and attacked with everything he had, but Inami wasn't growing tired at
all! What is up with this guy? Tamahome wondered.
"You fool, I do not tire so
easily. Soon though, you will grow
tired and you will make a mistake."
Inami did a kick, jump, punch combo, and landed his punch on Tamahome's
chest. "See?"
Soi blocked all of Namame's
attacks, but she could not score one of her own. Nothing she had tried had penetrated the armor! She jumped back. "Hokun Jinnrai Ho!"
Lightning came down from the sky and struck Namame's armor, but he
remained unharmed!
Tasuki had his hands full, using
his fan attack to blast away both Hikitsu and Tomite's ice attacks. "Rekka Shinen!" Flame shot forth from his fan and melted yet more of Hikitsu's
ice snakes. Tomite followed up with his
ice arrows, scoring a flash wound on Tasuki's left arm, making it hard to use
his fan in his right hand.
"Traitors." He growled.
Nuriko put both hands up and tried
to block the flying debris that Urumiya sent his way. Urumiya raised two hands
in the air, lifting a large boulder and sending it hurling towards Nuriko. Nuriko pulled his arm back, bracelets
glowing bright red, and punched the rock, cracking it to a pile of pebbles.
"Very good, large one." Urumiya commented.
"Are you calling me fat, shorty?"
Nuriko retorted.
"I will have you swallowed up by
the land you stand on!" He hit the
ground and underneath Nuriko, a sinkhole formed, threatening to swallow up the
strength-blessed warrior right then and there.
"I don't think so!" Suboshi came up behind Urumiya and tried to
use his ryuseisui on him, but Urumiya dodged it well, ceasing his attack on
Nuriko.
Amiboshi circled around Uruki, and
she smiled at his tenseness. "Not used
to battle I see? Well, then I'll end it
quickly." She closed her eyes and sang
a high-pitched song that immediately had Amiboshi screaming and holding his
hands over his ears.
"Brother!" Suboshi shouted, feeling his pain.
Amiboshi fell to his knees. Is this how you felt, Miaka, you guys? Did I cause you this much pain and
suffering? He took out his flute,
despite the splitting pain in his head and played another song on his flute,
going higher and faster than Uruki. It
broke her spell and he got to his feet, breathing heavily.
"Very good, little boy. I let you off easily. I will not be so merciful this time!" She opened her mouth to sing, but her
magical senses went off and she had to dodge to the side to avoid Suboshi's
ryuseisui aimed for her back.
"Leave him alone!" Suboshi ran up to his brother, supporting
him.
Hatsui, under orders, stayed next
to Priestess Lelana, in case any of the invalids got through their
defenses. Lelana smirked as she saw Yui
and Miaka watched her warriors practically defeat their own. "This is almost as fun as actually killing
them."
Tamahome could see they were not
winning this. "Chichiri! Get the girls out of here!" He shouted, blocking a dragon kick from
Inami.
"We'll catch up with you!" Suboshi said, trying to help Tamahome with
Inami. Inami, though, still did not
show even the slightest bead of sweat or any other mark of exhaustion. Where does he get his energy?
Chichiri nodded at the command and placed one hand
on both Miaka and Yui, all three disappearing from view.
Suboshi looked at every time
Tamahome blocked one of Inami's attacks, come of Tamahome's red aura would go
into Inami, making his green aura stronger.
He was living off of Tamahome!
Lelana saw the realization in
Suboshi's eyes and decided she'd had enough fun. "Let's go."
Hatsui nodded and placed two
fingers on his lips, making a whistling sound, which brought all the Genbu
Seven's attention to him. He held up an
arm and they all nodded, jumping into the air and out of sight. Hatsui placed an arm on Lelana and they both
disappeared, just like Chichiri's magic!
Nuriko breathed heavily. "What they heck was that?"
Tamahome whipped a hand across his
brow. "I don't know. But if they are who we are facing, then we
are going to have to get a whole lot stronger to stay alive.
Nuriko smirked, despite the
circumstances. "Speak for yourself, fleshy."
Tamahome rolled his eyes. "Come on…let's go find the others."
