Disclaimer: To avoid a lawsuit, we fanfic authors must write these stupid disclaimers. Sorry for the inconvenience. On with the story!
Author's Notes: Oi! I know that Nakago-kun acted a little OOC in the last chapter, but cut the guy some slack, okay? He's been through enough already! Give him some time to let it all go, for cryin' out loud!! *notices everyone staring at her oddly* Ahem. Well, I'm sure Nakago's fans will agree with me...

Chapter Four: Moonlight Ghost, Secret Confessions

How far we are from morning,
how far are we
and the stars shining through the darkness,
falling in the air.

The sun was sinking on the horizon on the second day the group had been travelling. After stopping and making camp, they all fell asleep without eating anything. (Isn't it a miracle?) Except Midori/Tasuki. He lay awake, gazing up at the moon and stars. "I think I'll go for a walk," he whispered to himself.
He closed his eyes and a soft light poured from his seishi mark, spreading out into the clearing and taking form. The ghostly figure moved like a moonbeam, leaving its living body to sleep.
As the ghost moved through the camp, a chill from its presence awakened Nuriko with a shiver. The seishi sat up and stared in wonder at the ghost, who finally noticed him. The two were silent for a long time, staring at each other in shock.
Midori, the ghost warrior in Tasuki's body, wasn't a he at all. He was a she. The ghost of a beautiful young woman in a long silk death shroud with a sword at her side was Midori, all right. Or whatever her true name was. Nuriko could see the star-blue eyes clearly.
The look of shock on the ghost's face turned to sadness. She drifted back over to Tasuki's body and reentered it. Then the ghost moved over to Nuriko and sat beside him.
"Please, all that you have seen tonight must be kept secret," the ghost said softly. "The name Midori belonged to my younger brother. I am Manami Okuda."
"Then why did you lie to us?" asked Nuriko. "We wouldn't have minded that you're a girl."
"I suppose it's because I'm much like you, Nuriko," Manami replied. "My brother and I looked a lot alike. When he and my entire family died, I knew that no one would help me if I was a girl. So I dressed like a man, and used my brother's name."
"I guess that's where you and I are different."
"Yes."
There was a long silence. Finally Manami broke it. "Now I want to go see Taiitsu-kun, and see if she can make me alive again. That way, I can enact my revenge on Seiryuu."
"But you can't fight Seiryuu if he's not here. How are you going to avenge your family?"
"By killing his most powerful seishi."
"Nakago? Are you crazy?!"
"If Kourin had been killed by him, what would you do?"
"I see what you mean." Nuriko sighed. "I just hope you know what you're doing." Then, "Hey! How do you know about Kourin?"
Manami smiled. "It's one of the powers I inherited from my mother: the power to read a
person's past."
Both fell silent again for a long time. It was almost dawn when Manami spoke again. "Promise me something. Keep my secret until I'm alive again. I obviously won't be able to hide my identity anymore when that happens, but I do appreciate your silence."
"You have my word."
