Jennifer fussed all over Amiboshi's hand and she could tell that the Suzaku Seishi were a little confused at their already seemly close relationship. Jennifer could tell that Amiboshi was a little confused to, but then again, she was right out of his dreams and she thought that that was what was confusing him more than them being so close. She was just trying to find out the differences between him and Mark because she knew what had happened with Tamahome/Taka and Miaka because she could never think of them as two different people until it was almost too late. Jennifer didn't want to make that mistake. And besides, there were a lot of differences between the two, and this was something that she could use to her advantage, she wasn't sure how yet... But she would eventually, and those two had better look out then.
Finally Amiboshi pulled his hand away and gave her a look that said, "okay, you can stop mothering me anytime now." She giggled at the look and started laughing at the expression that crossed his face and the face of the other Seishi at her giggles. "And here I thought you weren't capable of being happy." Amiboshi gave her another look, that just sent her into another fit of giggles. The situation was more relaxed now, but that didn't keep Jennifer from knowing that they should get moving again. Even if Amiboshi wasn't using his chi, Suboshi could still find him through the link that they shared. She waited for everyone to stop grinning broadly before moving over to Chichiri and gesturing in the direction of Sairo. He nodded behind his mask and began to herd the Seishi in that general direction. In no time they were on their way to the city that had eluded them because of Tomo's illusions.
She really didn't want to talk about how she had gotten into this world... It made her remember how she had left Mark behind... How he had been so ill and so controlled by the dreams... And how she had now disappeared, without a single note or good-bye or anything. She didn't know why she worried so much about him; he would know where she was. He could see her in his dreams. That thought only depressed her more because it made her remember that Amiboshi had denied her being real and she felt that he was sill thinking that and that only he was humoring her because he thought that he was in some kind of dream or something. She sighed as she walked along, in the middle of the group, near Tasuki, who, thankfully was busy talking to Chiriko about the state of affairs of Konan, something that didn't involve her input at all.
Jennifer was just really stressed about her whole situation. On top of all of the other problems, there was still what they were going to do about Nakago, Tomo and Suboshi who were all currently following them. If she hadn't known that it was impossible she would have believed that she felt them, just behind the last dune, but not sure of exactly where the Suzaku Seishi were. It made her uncomfortable and she was glad that Chichiri had had the presence of mind to mask all of their auras, or rather chi, or whatever they called it here. She sighed again. She wasn't cut out to be dealing with affairs here. She was better suited to someplace in Europe where she knew how everything worked and wasn't confused as to how she knew the language and all of the other things that were weighing on her mind at the moment. Hell, she couldn't even wield any weapons. Just what was she supposed to do? Her god didn't even exist in this world, so it's not like she could go ask him for any help.
She was still lost in thought when they entered through the first gates of the city. They went to the first inn that looked like it was livable and rented out several rooms and a private parlor to eat in. She paid no attention to the name of the inn, or anything that the others were saying. All that her mind could focus on at the moment was that the time was soon coming where she'd have to explain how she had gotten to the Universe of the Four Gods and just what she was doing there. Once they were all seated at the clean, if slightly grease stained, table, all of the Seishi, Amiboshi included, looked at her expectantly. She took a deep breath and began her tale. She tried to focus on the story and not see the reactions on the faces of the people she hoped she could trust. When she ended at the part where she had led Tamahome and Amiboshi through the dunes toward the others, there was complete silence. It was only then that she looked up to gauge the reactions of Seishi and the Suzaku no Miko.
Miaka, for her part, looked like she was torn between joy at having someone form her own world there and confusion or doubt at how and why she was there. Mitsukake looked at her with narrowed eyes ad if thinking that there had to be more to it than what she had said. Tasuki just had a scowl on his face, probably from thinking too hard and looked slightly angry as well and Jennifer could easily guess why; why hadn't she come before, so that she could have saved Nuriko? Chiriko just looked like he was scanning his super-charged brain for an explanation. Tamahome just looked as if he was shocked and a little confused. Jennifer had no clue what Chichiri was thinking, but then again, who did through that mask of his? She almost didn't want to see what Amiboshi thought of all of it, but she turned to face him last of all. He looked slightly disappointed, as if he had been certain of the answer to something only to have the correct answer shown as something completely different from his own thought.
She looked at them all apprehensively, but wasn't startled or surprised when Chichiri spoke first, "You said that it could not have been your god that brought you here, right, no da?" She nodded, "Why could it have not been, no da? You said that he doesn't exist in this world, or the one that you live in, but Suzaku does not live in your world and still he summoned Miaka here, no da." She squinted her eyes in thought.
"So you're saying that world boundaries don't affect the gods at all?"
"No, no da. Only that the boundaries don't affect the gods if they have believers that can be reached through those boundaries, no da." Everyone leaned in a little closer at this.
"So, since I am the only one in this world that believes in Kaelar, I am the only one who can act for him? As in how you all act for Suzaku and Seiryu respectively?" He nodded and she thought hard about the implications of that, "So in a sense I am the Celestial Warrior for Kaelar, but that since he doesn't have any land or other believers here, I have no one to fight, or to act against me." She made a face, "That basically makes me a neutral in all of this." He nodded again.
Amiboshi's eyes lit up at that, "That means that she isn't constrained by the laws of any of the countries like we are. It also means that Nakago can't touch her unless he wants to face the wrath of all of the gods for attacking a Celestial warrior without being told to do so by his god." He grinned evilly.
He was going to continue when Tasuki interrupted, "So tha' means tha' this chick can do wha'e'er she wan's to withou' havin' to face any consequences?"
"No, that means that she can do whatever her god asks of her without anyone else being able to interfere, unless they wanted to face the consequences, no da." Mitsukake added his part next.
"But she didn't even think that her god had sent her here. How is she to know what he wants?"
Jennifer jumped to defend herself, "I'll know because I know what Kaelar is. He's very simple so far as gods go. His one edict to his people is: Save as many lives as you can, without losing your own." That received narrowed eye from all around the table. She just shrugged, "You have to remember, in the original version of the story, all of you were supposed to die. I've already changed that, at least a little bit."
"But at what cost? Your friend, Mark, what about him? He loses in this." Amiboshi spoke so softly that no one except for Jennifer heard him. His words troubled her and she had to fight to keep tears from falling.
"But all of that is beside the point, no da. The point is: What do we do with you now, no da?" that received nods from all around the table.
"I think that we should keep her around. She obviously knows a lot. She knows how people will react to things, or at least she can make really good guesses. According to her story, all that she knew was that you were all trapped in an illusion that was probably fading. She knew enough to keep herself and Amiboshi out of sight until you had all reassured yourselves that I can fine." Miaka spoke with her usual optimistic conviction. Her Seishi looked at her oddly, she had obviously surprised them, but they could only agree to what she had said.
"So, now all we have to do is get back to getting the Shinzaho, so that we can summon Suzaku," Tamahome shot Amiboshi a look as he said that, but he just shrugged it off and Jennifer was glad that they weren't all about to go killing her only link to her home -and Mark. Everyone around the table just nodded. They finished their food, that the inn keeper had had sent in while Jennifer had been explaining. When they had all finished they walked up silently to their rooms. Jennifer was sharing with Miaka and the others, were spread out randomly among the other rooms. Jennifer sighed and sat down on her bed. She pulled Mark's jacket closer around her began to cry softly. There was no way that she could get home and she was still unsure of how she had even gotten there. Sure, they had all agreed that it had to have been Kaelar, but she still had her doubts. And if that was true, why had he never helped her before? Why had she been left alone and abandoned when her family had broken up and her mother had tried to destroy her life? She felt a depression in the bed as Miaka sat down next to her.
If Miaka thought it strange that she was comforting the older girl she made no sign of it. Jennifer turned and cried into her shoulder, sobs racking her body as she felt herself slipping away from everything she knew. Sure, she had read Fushigi Yuugi, but a lot of help that was now that she was living it. She heard a quiet knock on the door and felt Miaka get up to answer it. Jennifer vaguely heard quiet talking and then felt the bed depress again and the door close. Only this time, it wasn't Miaka who wrapped her arms around her. She shuddered once and then let silent tears fall off of her face and soak into Amiboshi's shirt. He held her close and whispered in her ear, "It will be alright. Not now, and probably not anytime soon, but everything will be fine. Believe that. Mark will be alright too. He knows what's happening, doesn't he? He can see through me eyes." She nodded a little, into his chest. "Just don't leave, now that you're finally here." She looked up into his eyes questioningly. "Sometimes, when you sleep, you don't wake up." Her eyes widened and she nodded. He let go of her then, and stood up. He looked at her sadly and then opened the door and left.
She stared at the door for a bit after he left. She had completely forgotten about that. That was really bad. It was times like these, when she was stressed and confused that she didn't wake up. She dearly hoped that it wouldn't happen now because without modern technical medical equipment she could easy sicken and die from lack of water or food, or anything if she didn't wake up in the morning. She was still looking at it when it opened, revealing Miaka come back to sleep. She grinned a bit at Miaka's flushed face and couldn't help herself, "So? Have a good time "speaking" with Tamahome?"
Miaka picked up her pillow and threw it at Jennifer who had picked hers up as a shield mere seconds before. They both broke into giggles then and Jennifer was glad that she had said something. Now, at least, she didn't need to fear about not waking up. That never happened when she went to sleep right after laughing. She gave a small sigh of contentment before going to sleep.
Mark woke up all in one instant. He looked around his room and saw only a plate with an ice cold sandwich sitting on it. He shook his head in disbelief. His dream couldn't have been real. It couldn't be true. Jennifer couldn't be gone. He looked at his clock which sat on his nightstand, next to the sandwich plate. The red letters read 2:03 a.m. He shook his head and jumped out of his bed. He moved over to the closet and changed his clothes as fast as possible. He grabbed his shoes and ran out of his room, jumping down the stairs. No one was home to hear the racket he was making, which was lucky. He pulled on his shoes as he ran to the front door. He threw it open and sprinted to Jennifer's house which was just around the corner.
The black of early morning surrounded him as he ran. Fear gave him all the energy he could possibly need to get there as fast as possible. He wasn't going to lose her now, not right after he realized that he loved her. He wasn't even panting when he finally came to stand in front of her house. All of the lights were out, something that he took as a good sign as he started to climb on top of her garage. Once he was on that roof he walked over to her window, through which he had gone many times when his dreams had over powered him and he could no longer sleep for fear of what they would show him. He carefully pushed in the screen and almost let out a cry for the scene before him. Her room was clean, for once, and empty. He kneeled on the window box and clutched at his heart, his eyes leaking silent tears. She was gone. And, somehow, it was his fault. She was gone. The reality of it to him was a blow to the chest. He wanted the world to end then. There was nothing he wanted left in it with her gone. He felt blackness surrounding him and he gratefully fell into it as it pulled him into a dreamless sleep.
Amiboshi woke up with a start, tears falling down his face and a pain in his heart. He knew Mark had seen and he could feel the pain that his brother felt, for in that instant he had also realized the connection between them. Mark was like another brother to him and Suboshi. He had just been born in another world. They had been given the connection so that he would accept Jennifer when she finally arrived. He wiped the tears from his face and resettled himself in his bed. He knew that Suboshi would have felt that too, and wondered about it. He only hoped that his brother didn't do anything rash because of it.
When Mark woke again, he was still in Jennifer's room. He lifted his head and tried to find her clock to see what time it was. The red numbers glared at him form her DVD player and he sighed in relief that it was only 2:34. He slowly moved up and went back out of the window. He pulled the screen after him and settled it in before jumping down off of her garage and into her yard. He wiped the tears from his face as he walked home desolately. He still couldn't believe that she was gone. He opened the door to his house and locked it behind him. He removed his shoes before trudging up the stairs bent down, as if there were a great weight on his shoulders. All that he could think was that there was. And that weight was Jennifer. She was gone and it was his fault. He didn't know how, just that it was.
When he laid back down on his bed, he only could hope that his brothers, for that had to be what the twins in his dreams were, took care of her and made sure that she didn't get herself killed in the process of helping them.

"Sorry it was only five pages, but I thought that that was a good ending to the chapter. So, now I have explained how and why she is in the Universe of the Four Gods, and the relationship between Ami/Su/Mark. I derived that from the belief that twins share the same soul, well the twins are just sharing theirs with one more person. Thank you Ryochan8 for reviewing, I appreciate any imput."

Oh! So, sorry I forgot. Kaelar is actually spelled with an asec, better known as "that little a-e character," it just wasn't showing up correctly, so that is why it's spelled wrong.
