Nakago was in a foul mood that afternoon and he was rubbing on Jennifer's very last nerve. She was sure, that if she had been drawn into the manga of all of this, and she was sure that somewhere there was a manga of all of this, she would have those little twitchy vein marks that characters get when they are really pissed. That annoying man had been shooting her death glares and sneers all day and she was just getting fed up with it. He had no reason to be mad. She'd been playing nicely all day and she hadn't even made snide little comments behind his back every three seconds like she wanted to. And really, his obsession with everything blue? Okay, so maybe he wanted to honor his god, but this was going overboard. She almost slapped herself for the sea pun. Stupid god of water, she thought as she threw little pebbles at stack of cards she had made earlier.
She'd found the deck of playing cards earlier, when she'd been digging through her clothes for anything useful. Her pants had huge pockets, so she had thought that she's have something worth keeping in them. Of course, she forgot to factor in that she had been lazing around all day at her house before she had gone over to Mark's and hadn't gone around enough to collect her usual mass of items. All she had found was a deck of playing cards with fun facts about the Kennedy Space Center. She had no clue what those cards were doing in her pocket, but she had them at least. She had tried to teach Suboshi how to play "Jacks," but he had gotten frustrated halfway through and used his telekinesis to imbed half of her deck in one of the tent poles.
Suboshi was now sulking over on the other side of the encampment because Mr. Foul Mood was talking to Yui. She had no clue what his current problem was, but she had a feeling that it was just run off of his anger about Amiboshi using his ki this morning for purposes unknown. Jennifer sighed. She figured that since it was Amiboshi that was doing it, it had to be mournful sounding, but with good purpose. She remembered when Mark had used to play like that... Improvising something sad and changing it into something happy. He had a gift for that, but he could never just play something happy, or just something sad... He could never just be one or the other. She made a face as she thought about that. She never really knew what Mark was feeling. Sure, he'd tell her, but she could never just know.
That had been one of the things that had kept her from telling him how she thought she had felt, not even considering all of the other reasons which were just as valid. She was a hopeless romantic, despite all of the dark clothes and sarcasm; she felt that there was a certain way that things had to happen when you were in love, or whatever. That's why she'd never truly believed in her feeling and just wrote it off like she had all of her past crushes. She looked up to see Nakago staring at her and she completely lost her train of thought. She blinked a few times and then stood up, not quite sure where she had been leading her thoughts a moment ago. She shrugged, it wasn't that important if she couldn't remember it. Tarakai shook her head to clear the last of the thoughts away. She saw Tomo leave his tent, probably to go practice his illusions some more, so she went to follow him.
Illusions had always been her favorite aspect of magic and she had been very disappointed when someone she liked so little got, what she thought to be, the best power. He noticed her following him and gave her an annoyed look. "Look, girl, I'm not Suboshi and I don't care about you at all. Go bother someone else."
"Err! What is with everyone today? I didn't do anything! Is it a crime for me to be interested in the people whose lives, I am so generously saving?" She made expansive annoyed gestures.
"Oh, so you will save my life, but only after you knock me out cold." He spun around and glared at her, his little feather things swinging a bit with his movement.
"What are you talking about? I saw you for the first time when you and Nakago and Suboshi came and dragged me out of the inn!" She couldn't believe him! Spouting out those lies. His faced showed complete incomprehension and she only took that as a sign of his stupidity and added it onto the fact that he thought she would demean herself by hitting scum like him. She didn't even know why she followed him in the first place. She should have grabbed Suboshi and-
"You dirty little liar! You hit me right in the face before you went running into Koutoku's arms!" She scoffed at him and sneered.
"Oh, so you are trying to blame me for your failure to capture Amiboshi! That just shows how worthless you are. Why would I waste my time hitting you, when every injury takes you one step closer to your death and my own failure!"
Suboshi listened to the conversation with confusion written all over his face. She was lying! But... Her voice had only nuances of sincerity. What was going on? He looked at the back of Tarakai's neck, where he had seen her mark glow once before, when she had been trying to sense everyone this morning. There was nothing there now, as he could easily see because her long brown hair was twisted up completely. He shook his head blinking in disbelief. Why was she acting like this?
"So your task is about you now? I thought that you were just the meek "pawn of the gods" as you put it." Tomo shot his response back at her with such a fury that Suboshi was surprised that neither of them had come to blows yet. And people said he had a fiery temper!
"Yes, it is about me. The sooner this all ends with you hearty and hale, the sooner I can be with Shunkaku." Suboshi blinked repeatedly at her words. Now he really didn't understand what she was talking about. How had she known his real name in the first place? What did she mean by "be with Shunkaku?" She didn't love him and he obviously didn't love her, so what was she talking about. What was more, until this moment he had been sure that she harbored feelings for his brother. Which one, he wasn't sure, but he knew that it was one of them and definitely not him. Before either Tarakai or Tomo could say anything else Suboshi used his ki to wrap his ryuuseisu around Tarakai and pull her to him. While she was busy sulking and trying to free herself he gave Tomo a confused look, trying to show him that he had no clue what was going on either.
He turned back to Tarakai, only to find her sitting cross-legged and with her arms crossed across her chest. She glared at him. "What was that for, koibito? I was just about to-"
"What are you talking about? Listen to yourself! Whoever said I was your koibito? You even wear my brother's mark! What has gotten into you? Even if you did have feelings for me, which I know that you don't, I'm in love with Yui. I've made that perfectly clear on several occasions. What has gotten into you? I don't know you very well, but I know enough to know that you would never act so... so... Stupid!" He was yelling at her and she didn't even blink. He leaned in closer to her and saw that her eyes were slightly glazed. "What's going on?" he whispered, backing away slowly, fearfully...
"Don't you like her better this way? I saw the way you two wear acting the other night and took the liberty of improving her attitude with my new kodoku. This one is much stronger and better defined than the original that took Tamahome." He turned to see Nakago standing behind him, looking very smug. "It got rid of her annoying cough as well for an added bonus. That ingrate Amiboshi doesn't deserve her. She will be much more beneficial to us now that she is no longer giving away my little surprises. Don't you agree?" All through his speech Suboshi could barely keep his disgust from showing on his face or his sudden revulsion as he realized that not only had everything that Tarakai had told him about Nakago was true, but that he had been listening in to their conversation and knew about Amiboshi's token. he swallowed hard and tried to think of what to do. He remembered what Tarakai had said about being compliant and then agreed with him, despite how much it repulsed him.
"Whole heartedly. She was trying to cause a schism between us with her lies. In this state she will complete her task much more to Kotou's needs. Which I'm sure is why you gave her the kodoku in the first place, isn't it, my lord?" He was sickened that he was groveling to that scum, but there was no help for it.
"I see that you are learning much faster than your poor brother. What a shame he couldn't have seen things the way you do." He shuddered as he kneeled before the general. It was then that he realized everything. Nakago didn't care why Suboshi followed him, only that he did what he was told. He didn't care if he was only followed in fear, or hate. he didn't care in the slightest. All that mattered was that what he wanted done happened. Suboshi collapsed on the ground as soon as Nakago was out of direct range. He shook in fear as he braced himself on the ground.
He looked up and saw an unconscious Tarakai staring back at him with closed eyes. He almost sobbed when he thought of what she must be going through. She must be losing her mind completely. He crawled over to her and pulled her to him. He would have to go along with whatever memories or thoughts that she would have, if he wanted to get her back to his brother in one piece. He pulled up her sleeve and looked down at his brother's token. He closed his eyes against the back lash that his action was going to have, then he ripped the token off, pulling it apart from all sides with his telekinesis. He screamed as he felt the pain tear at his heart, but he knew that what he felt wasn't the half of what Amiboshi had to be feeling...
Amib oshi fell mid-step and clutched at his heart. It felt like it was being ripped into shreds. He didn't know where the pain was coming from. It was blocking out everything, even the voices of the concerned Seishi who surrounded him. He pulled back his left sleeve to look at the token that Jennifer had tied to his wrist, to at least be reassured that she was alright. What he found shocked him so badly that a new pain enveloped the one wringing out his heart. He knew what it was now. Someone had taken the token from her- and then destroyed it. The pain began to fade and he could vaguely hear Chichiri's voice, "What is it? What's wrong, no da?"
"It's Jennifer. I think... I think she may be in danger." He was barely able to choke out the words before he passed out.
Mark woke, moaning in agony. His heart felt like it was being torn into little pieces- again. The pain was identical to the pain he had felt when he'd seen her empty room. He blinked a few times, clutching at his heart and tried to remember what the dream he had just had included. He rubbed his arm. Yes it was the token. Somehow it had been destroyed. He shook his head. He knew what the token meant. He had wanted to die right then, right when Jenn tied the cloth around his arm. She had to have known the real meaning behind it, the true binding that it was putting on her.
He shuddered. He wished that his brothers would stop sending him this pain. This agony. Was it not enough that he had lost Jennifer, but he had to feel it as they loved and lost her themselves? He shook his head and looked over at the small pile of things that he had collected while scouring his room for the letter, which was still MIA. The pile consisted of everything even remotely related to Jenn. Obviously that made the pile take up a good deal of the floor space. Some of it was hers, but most of it were things that he had bought for her, but never had gotten up the courage to give to her, so he had just kept them and used them himself. Of course, there were a few things that he couldn't use, but those were mostly at the bottom of the pile where he wouldn't have to look at them. He closed his eyes and leaned back on the bed, hopefully he'd be able to go back to sleep without much trouble.
S uboshi was very glad that Tarakai didn't wake up with his scream. The rending pain that he was feeling from Amiboshi was bad enough without any looks she could give him. he sighed and shifted her off of himself. All that was left was to wait for her to wake up. She wouldn't suffer the separation as badly as Amiboshi did, but she would wake up feeling completely alone. She would be disconnected form everything. He sighed a little more and moved the hair off of the back of her neck. If the kodaku that Nakago was using was the only an improved version of the one he had used on Tamahome, then her symbol would not appear again until she could break free. The only problem was that Suboshi didn't think that she could free herself, or that he could free her.
He pulled off his own head band and looked wistfully back to the main encampment where he knew Yui to be. If nothing else came from his actions once Tarakai awakened, at very least Yui wouldn't think that his words were tainted by jealousy...
< br> "Well, there is nothing that we can do now, no da." Chichiri said after Amiboshi woke up. "She said that she had to go with them. We knew that she was going to be around Nakago which in and of itself puts her in danger. The best thing we can do now is to collect the Shinzaho and return as quickly as possible, no da." Amiboshi shook his head, he believed Chichiri's words and he knew that it was the best plan of action, but his heart cried out for him to save her from anything and everything. He sighed and nodded when he noticed that all of the Suzaku Seishi were waiting on his response.
His heart lightened as he realized that they really cared about how he felt in the matter. He looked around at the friendly faces that surrounded him on all sides and sighed in relief. At least Jennifer wouldn't have to worry about the Suzaku Seishi killing each other off while she was busy with Nakago.

"Sorry about the short chapter, but I wrote most of it last night because I couldn't sleep because I was too stressed out over tryouts which got pushed back to tomorrow!! So I obvsiouly have no clue if I made it or not. I will, however, know by Friday.
Thanks to:Ryochan8, Lirael1, and Noodle8. Thanks to all of you for reviewing. Sorry about making Mark suffer so much, it just has to happen this way, otherwise things will never fall into place. *Hands her a Mark plushie*"
