Isshou Konko
Chapter 8. Prison
By: Gator Ri
Sorry about the spelling errors in the last chapter guys. I was really tired when I wrote it. Beside I think that they add character (a.k.a. Gator is too lazy to go back and fix them). Everyone is probably wondering if I'm going to use Tasuki anymore right? *griiiins* Well! You'll just have to wait and see! Gyahahahahahaha! *koffkoff* Ack! Hair ball! *scratches head* Wait a minute I'm part alligator, I don't have hair balls. 0.0;; BTW! Thanks for the reviews!!!!!!
They were almost there. All in all the ride had been fairly pleasant.
Kiyan looked in the mirror at her silent charge, of whom she had become to think of as a sort of friend. He had been growing more and more quiet as the car went along, quieter than usual. She felt for him, his soul was too gentle for all of this. For in the past few weeks on her visits she had seen some of what was probably the real Houjun, the one before all of this had happened to him.
Pulling up to the security gate the young officer looked up at the formidable gray square structure that was Gouwa. It sent chills down her spine. Getting clearance she pulled the car through the gate and continued to the drop off point. At which she saw three uniformed guards standing there, waiting.
Coming to a gentle halt Kiyan turned to look at the young man in the seat behind her, "Well, I guess this it. I'll see you around, Houjun." She offered him a smile more than likely one he didn't see, since he was still staring out the window.
The tall warden smiled as the young woman officer climbed out of the patrol car, with a manila envelope in hand.
"Good afternoon," he greeted in his chilly voice.
She looked up at him, "Hello, sir. You're the warden I presume?"
He frowned, didn't they teach these young cops anything anymore? Stupid fools. "Yes, I am he," he replied smoothly, as he held out his hand for the envelope," May I have the prisoner's file." It wasn't a question it was an order.
Her smile disappeared off her face, she didn't like the feeling that she got from this man, but she obeyed and gave him what he asked for.
"The prisoner as well," a gleam suddenly shown in the man's icy blue eyes.
She gave a nod and turned back to the car. Opening the back door she reached in and unbelted Houjun, whom was being almost catatonic. Helping him out of the car she escorted him to where the three waited.
"Ashitare," the warden beckoned to the big muscular man, "Hold the prisoner."
Coming forward the hulking figure took Houjun from Kiyan and retreated back to his former spot, doing as told.
"Now, I do believe that you have to sign these," said the thin dark headed man in his nasally voice, as he shoved a clipboard under Kiyan's nose.
Taking the clipboard, Kiyan quickly signed her name on the papers and handed it back. "Um, then I guess I'm done here," she said a bit uncertainly as she gave Houjun a wave, to which he made no response. Turning she got back into the patrol car and drove away with a rather heavy heart and a feeling of dread for the young man she had just left behind.
-----------------------------------------------
Warden Ayurhu turned and looked at Houjun, he smirked, "Chuin make sure the prisoner makes it to my office tonight. That is after he has done his duty."
"Yes, sir," the assistant warden responded as Ayurhu turned and left, probably to read over the prisoner's file.
Turning to the hulking form of the Warden's favored guard, Chuin beckoned him to follow him inside. They made their way through the maze of the prison, going past different blocks of cells and rooms that the prisoners were allotted time to use. Finally they came to Block nine, at which Chuin wasted no time in opening the door and making his way down the corridor to the last cell on the left, the only empty cell in the block, and the most secluded.
Stopping in front of it the thin man took the ring of keys off his belt and unlocked the barred door, which swung open with a small creaking sound.
Houjun blinked, barely, as he was taken into this cage and finally let go, although still with his cuffs on.
"This," Asst. Warden Chuin started, "will be your home from now on. And," he pointed at the plastic bucket that contained cleaning supplies, "As such you will clean it on a regular basis."
Houjun stared numbly at the bucket and supplies and then up at the warden and the guard who stood beside him.
Chuin frowned, "And failure to do so will end you up with out your issues and your privileges. So I advise you to cooperate," He grinned, mainly to himself for he knew some of the punishments that Ayurhu had in store for bothersome prisoners. Rebellions were not and had never been tolerated and they wouldn't start now either.
Coming over to Houjun, with the keys jangling, the dark haired man undid the cuffs and slipped them on his belt. "This better be done by supper, otherwise you don't get any." With that he turned and left with Ashitare following him. Stopping outside he swung the door shut and locked it, the click echoing down the corridor.
Houjun watched them leave with a blank look in his eye and then down at the bucket with a sigh. Shrugging he dumped the bottle of cleaner and the cloth out it. At least it would keep his mind off things.
-----------------------------------------
He frowned as he looked at the mug shots of the new arrival, his hand rubbing at his chin, he seemed…so familiar, not just from the news either. He scowled, he didn't like this Ri Houjun, that too was something that he couldn't put his finger on. He shrugged it didn't matter to him anyhow, he hated all of the prisoner's, just some more than others. They were scum and deserved to be treated as such.
"Come in," he said to the knock that sounded on his office door.
Chuin strode in, "I don't like this new prisoner, Ayurhu sir," he started as he stood in front of the warden's desk, "He seems like the rebellious type."
The blond headed man nodded, "Well, then we'll just have to keep a close eye on him then won't we, Assistant Warden Chuin? After all it is part of your job to make sure these things are nipped in the bud. But," he paused for emphasis, "I would like to be the one to teach him his lessons…break him into the way of prison life. So if I hear of anyone, that includes you," he pointed at the eagle eyed man before him, "has touched him, I will personally use you or them as an example."
"Yes, sir," the man nodded his dark head quickly.
He smirked, "Good, and as you well know the fools are not allowed to touch them anyway. That is for us."
Again Chuin nodded his head in response.
"Now be gone with you. There is much to be done."
Giving a bow the other man turned and quickly left, he knew very well not to anger the man behind the desk, for he wasn't the nicest of men.
-------------------------------------------
Houjun looked up from scrubbing the floor on his hands and knees as a shadow fell over him, something in the person's hands gleaming dully in the light.
"Hmmmm….it is good to see that you have complied, prisoner," the annoying voice of the Asst. Warden came through the bars at him in a demeaning tone.
He blinked his eye and then looked down at the filthy rag in his hand, "Good too see that you have taken responsibility as well. Now, get up off the floor."
He did as told, leaving the rag where it was. His once bright uniform was now stained with dirt and cobwebs from the cell that he now called home. It had taken him all afternoon but it was spotless.
Unlocking the door Chuin came in and shoved the butt of the rifle that he was carrying into the prisoner's back, making him stumble forward. "Now get moving, it is time for you to go collect your necessities."
Clutching his fists Houjun moved forward out of the cell, cursing mentally, these people were already worse than the guards he had met. He got another shove from the butt of the rifle, "I didn't say stop."
Making sure that he sped his pace up the prisoner let himself be directed through the prison to a room that was marked 'Issuing Room.' Opening the door Chuin tapped his prisoner to make him go through and then let the door shut dully behind him.
"Good evening, Asst. Warden," greeted the man behind the counter as he looked over Houjun, "New one?"
"Hello," the other replied and then frowned, "What do you think? Do our prisoners where this type of garbage?" he poked the gun at Houjun again.
Houjun frowned this was about enough with the gun poking. He quickly shoved those thoughts aside, 'Feel nothing he told himself, that's the only way you'll get by. Be numb…`
The issuing guard nodded, "True, true, Assistant Warden," he looked Houjun over, "Come for the issues then?"
Chuin nodded his dark head, "Of course," he motioned for Houjun to move forward, "Have him examined then get him his clothes and other necessities and have him ready when I get back." After receiving an affirmative nod from the lower personnel, Chuin turned and left.
Houjun was not sorry to see him go. He looked down at the laces of the now gray tennis shoes as he heard the guard move around and open a door. Only when he was addressed did he look up, "Okay, come on. Better do what the right hand man says."
Taking Houjun by the arm he led him through the door and into the back through the door that he came and down the hall to a small medical room that had the prison's doctor inside waiting for him.
Houjun looked at the man, he seemed to look like a kind man although he was big with spiky black hair that had a sweat band around it to keep it out of the man's dark warm looking eyes. The prisoner scowled, he was not going to be deceived by appearances, that he was not.
"Here's the new one for you to look over, Dr. Myou Juan," the guard from the issuing room said as he came in with Houjun.
The large muscular man nodded, "Thank you, Sasaki," he said as he turned from the x-rays he had been studying, "Go get him his clothes, I should be done with the examination by the time that you get back."
Sasaki nodded and turning he left to get some clothes that would hopefully fit the prisoner, while the doctor did his job. He shuddered, he would hate to have Myou Juan's job.
He returned a few minutes later with the uniform made of jean in his arms, and to find the prisoner stripped down to nothing, sitting on the examination table while the doctor was writing something in a file.
Houjun sat there, looking dully at the floor, the chill air of the room making him shiver slightly as he sat there waiting for the clothes that would be coming. He hated doctors more than ever now, especially when it had come to the questioning about his eye, but he had kept his rudeness back to a point, for he felt that his doctor would be more friend than foe.
"Is he ready?" the guard asked when the man in white finally turned from the file at the doctor's nod he went forward and dumped the clothes on the bed, "Here's your new clothes, you are expected to take care of them and wash them. You will be getting another set but after that you will receive little else in the way of clothing. I advise you take of them wisely."
Houjun numbly nodded his head at the little speech as he stood and reached for the clothes, a blush creeping up him as he now had more than one person watching him, if there was one thing he hated it was having his privacy invaded.
Finally he stood in his new prisoner uniform of the usual dark blue jeans, and denim top with a pair of tennis shoes. He sighed, at least he didn't stick out like a sore thumb anymore.
Dr. Myou Juan had been talking idly with Sasaki and looked up as he saw the prisoner standing there, "Ah, all finished I see. Well, thank you for coming and I plan on seeing you at least once a day to get that eye of yours looked at, no use letting it get infected."
Houjun blinked dumbly, the only movement he made, that is until Sasaki again came and took his arm, "Come, it is time for you to get the rest of your things before the Assistant Warden comes back."
Once back at the issuing room, the guard took Houjun back behind the counter and started pulling things off the shelves and handing them to the boy, loading his arms quite nicely.
Finally Sasaki stood back and nodded, "That should be about it. Follow me."
Peering around his armload, Houjun did as told and followed him back out to where Chuin had left him a couple of hours earlier. And who should be waiting there but the man himself, with a deep frown on his handsome face, "You kept me waiting, Guard Sasaki, you can bet that your incompetence to keep with in the schedule will be reported to the Warden."
Sasaki gulped, wishing that he hadn't been so nice to the prisoner, but he couldn't help himself he didn't like seeing them treated the way they were by the other guards, someone needed to be nice once and a while.
Chuin poked at Houjun, "Get moving and don't drop anything, otherwise you will not get your supper tonight."
