Isshou Konko
Chapter 4. Aftermath
By: Gator Ri
"What the fuck!" the driver of a red mustang growled as he watched something about two miles down the road swerve into his lane of traffic, only to disappear a few moments later.
"I don' know what th' hell that was demo it sure was somethin' big from th' looks of it," the passenger of the mustang said in a shocked tone.
"I think that we better check it out," the flame haired driver spoke with concern, his fangs flashing in the dim light of the dashboard.
His passenger nodded.
As he got closer the driver let off the gas, to start slowing down and then stepped on the brakes, coming to a stop just past where the rail was laying over and bent.
Shutting off the car the red head put the emergency flashers on in case anyone was to come past, he sure as hell didn't want his car hit.
Getting out both boys came to the back of the car.
The driver looked at his dark blue headed friend, "Well, lets get goin'."
The dark headed boy put a hand on the other's shoulder, "Hold it, Genrou, shouldn' we at least grab a flashlight?"
The other boy frowned, fangs sticking out, "Yeah, guess yer right, Kouji."
Pulling his keys out, Genrou unlocked the trunk and dug around for a flashlight. Finally finding one he slammed the lid shut and flipped the light on, "There ya happy? Now ya don' hafta be afraid of the dark."
Kouji cuffed his friend, "Baka! It's so we c'n see."
Genrou frowned back, "Ya don' hafta hit me fer it," he stood there and scowled a moment before walking over to the rail and stepping over it. Looking back he chided, "So what ya waitin' fer?"
"Christmas," the other replied sarcastically. Rolling his eyes Kouji followed his friend down the steep hill.
Upon reaching the bottom of the incline Genrou shined the light around until he saw a something flash a couple feet away, "There," he pointed as he started towards it.
Upon getting closer he could see that it was a bus that had landed on it's side, "Ya were right it sho' as hell is a monster." He grimaced as the light danced over shards of broken glass that was scattered everywhere and a few pieces of metal strewn about, "Ouch, that had ta hurt."
"O' course it had ta hurt," Kouji retorted, "What do ya think these usually feel like." Shaking his head he found his way to the underside of the bus. Using the wheels and axles as foot holds he climbed up and crawled over to the windows. He peeked in, "Damn! Can't see a fuckin' thing. Get yer ass up here with that light, Genrou."
"I'm comin', I'm comin'. Don' get yer panties in a twist," he growled as he heaved himself up, while juggling the flashlight.
Crawling up beside his friend he shined the light in the window. They both blinked as it hit some shiny metal, "Shit! Look at all the fuckin' legarms, Kouji! Damn! Dis is a prisoner escort."
"No shit sherlock," the blue haired boy retorted, in shock, "This doesn' look good." Catching sight of something he pointed, "Show yer light over there."
Genrou quickly obliged, "Shit, them guards don' look too good," then moving his light more towards the front of the bus he was surprised to see a bit of orange, "Look like one of them prisoners is still here too."
"Hai…maybe we should go call th' cops."
Genrou nodded, "Good idea." With that he quickly made his way back to the edge of the bus and jumped down, "Ya comin'?"
"Yeah, yeah. Don' ya get yer undies in a bunch," came the reply as Kouji landed beside his friend, "Ya got yer cell phone?'
"Hai, demo it's up in th' car."
"Well, lets go get it. No use just standin' here an' talkin' about it."
Genrou gave his friend a look that was mostly lost in the dark as the two made their way carefully back up the incline.
Once at the top the fluffy flame haired boy dug his cell phone out of the front of the car. Coming back over to his friend, he sat on the trunk of the car, "Ya know the number fer the station?"
Kouji nodded, "Course I've had ta bail yer ass out 'nough times," he chuckled as he ducked the playful punch that was sent his way as he rattled off the number.
Punching in the number Genrou waited for someone to pick up the phone, "Hello, yeah I'm out on David Highway an' there was a bus full o' prisoners that had a little accident." He paused a moment, "Why would I lie!" he started to get ticked off, "I'm tellin' ya the truth!" he growled. "Iie, I don' know where the fuckin' thin' was headin' I mean damn it woman! Jus' b'lieve me." Frustrated to the point of just cussing he quickly handed the phone over to Kouji, "Here ya try n' talk some sense inta the bitch."
Kouji sighed as he put the phone to his ear, "Ma'am?" he listened a moment, "My buddy is tellin' th' truth. If I were you I would send someone out right quick. There's a couple o' unconscious guards an' a prisoner still in th' bus….Iie, I don' know where th' others went demo there's a shit load of leg arms inside th' bus." He nodded, "Hai, we'll wait 'til someone gets here." He flopped his hand down in his lap as he pushed the off button, "Stubborn little bitch demo she's sendin' out a squad car. We're supposed ta wait here 'til they come."
Genoru nodded still frowning, "Glad someone could talk some sense inta the bitch," he breathed out loudly, "I hate women."
Kouji looked at him with a sly smirk, "I know ya do."
------------------------------------------------------------- --------
The prisoner moaned quietly as his throbbing head brought him around to the land of the living, wincing he tried to set up but quickly lay back down as his sore ribs screamed in protest. He took quick shallow breaths to try and clear his vision, his ribs hurting too much to let him breath otherwise. After he quit seeing stars he tried again and this time succeeded, although he almost passed out from the pain. He slid back to lean back against a seat so that he wasn't in such a crouched position, this helped the pain in his ribs some.
He winced as he relaxed against the seat, little pieces of glass embedding themselves deeper into his back, "Damn!" he cursed the pain, but he bore it. After all it was no worse than the pain he had been feeling.
Putting his hand to his face the blue haired boy winced as his hand touched more glass and felt the now drying blood that was caked on the left side.
He tried to shift his weight a bit by leaning on his right hand a moment but tears of pain sprung to his eye as more needles of pain shot up through his entire arm.
"This don't look good," he barely whispered, his throat raw and dry.
He looked around him, not really comprehending much in the dark, as the lights had died just before he lost consciousness. One thought did cross his mind, he like the others could run, he knew he could make himself move but it wasn't worth it, why would a guilty man run? He didn't care about anything anymore, his life was gone and ruined, by him, so there was no point in trying to be free. He might as well see how long he lived in prison, or if he even would live through this at all.
------------------------------------------------------------- -------------
Genrou jumped off the trunk as a squad car pulled up and a couple of cops got out.
"You the people who phone in?"
Genrou nodded, "Hai. I'll show ya where the bus is." Turning he walked over the rail and started on down the hill, with the cops and his friend in tow.
"It's over here," he stated upon reaching the bottom. Walking over to it he looked up, "It sure as hell is a mess."
One of the cops walked around the accident, shining his flashlight at the bus, "Yup sure is."
The other cop, who had followed Genrou, shined his one light up the underside of the bus, "Anyone alive?"
The boy shrugged, "Hell if I know. We jus' peeked inside and found the three bodies. Couldn' tell if they were breathin' or not."
Kouji nodded, "Demo if ya need someone ta check me an' my buddy Genrou would be happy ta help."
The cop looked at them skeptically and then nodded, "Alright, just as long as you don't touch them or anything. Wait here a moment," he then walked over to his partner, "We better go radio for backup and an ambulance."
"What about the bodies inside?"
"The kids are checking it out."
"Why don't we wait 'til we here from them. Then we'll know how many convicts we have to go looking for."
The other nodded, "Alright, O'Malley, you're the boss."
He chuckled, "You're damn straight, Conley. Now get going. We should make a quick check of the area, though."
Conley nodded his head as he walked back to where the boys were still standing, "Well, you guys go in and check things out and then tell us the report. We're going to make a quick sweep of the area around in case a convict happens to be too injured to make it very far."
Genrou nodded, "Sounds fine ta me. Kouji?"
"Hell, I'm all fer it, Genrou."
With that they both climbed back up on the side of the bus, Genrou once again juggling his flashlight.
"Why don' just one of us go in, that way the other can help me out."
"Oh, so I see that ya've already decided that you're goin' in."
Genrou gave his friend a lopsided grin, making a fang stick out, "Hell yeah! I mean damn, I love this kinda stuff. That's why I'm a gang leader, baka."
Kouji just shook his head, "Yeah an' one of these days it's going ta get ya killed."
Genrou frowned at his friend and then handing the light to Kouji he crawled to the windows. "Show the light over there," he pointed more towards the back.
Kouji did as told, "Looks like it's a safe place ta go in. There isn' any bodies."
Genrou nodded, "Yup that's what I'm gonna do then." Crawling towards the back of the bus he started to carefully lower himself between the broken glass and onto the floor.
----------------------------------------------------------- --------
The prisoner stopped breathing upon hearing voices outside. "So someone has found us," he rasped in a whisper, his throat not allowing him to do more.
He looked up upon seeing a light shined down a few minutes later and watched as someone lowered themselves into the bus. He blinked his eye, the only thing he knew is that he wanted to be on his feet.
Mindless of the pain that his ribs and right arm gave him the boy moved his feet under him and pulled himself up to his knees, grunting as a sharp pang ran through his body.
Taking deep breath he cursed himself, "Damn!" as it sent another pang through him, this time sharper.
Genrou froze as he heard someone moving around in the other end of the bus and heard a quiet exclamation that was filled with pain. "Kouji, toss me th' light." Catching the light as it was tossed down to him, the boy shined it to the other end to see the prisoner that had been laying on the floor earlier, kneeling. 'Shiiit, he looks pretty bad,' Genrou observed as he saw the blood that was caked on the guy's face and that stained the uniform. "Ya need help?" he called.
Houjun looked in the direction that the light was coming from, blinking he shook his head, "Iie, I can handle it." He grimaced as he moved and put weight on his right arm. Then he quickly moved his feet under him to stand up. He wobbled as pain over took him," Argh!" he grunted and cursed at this, most of it barely audible. Loosing his balance a bit he stumbled back into what had been the ceiling of the bus, "I-itai," he breathed out raspily.
Genrou watched the man a moment and then carefully stepping over the bodies of the guards he made his way to the prisoner and offered him a hand, "Looks ta me like ya could."
Houjun looked up at the flamed haired boy who stood in front of him, "I've been baring pain," he winced as that pain shot through him, "I think I can handle it," he grunted, ignoring the hand as he leaned against the ceiling of the bus.
Genrou studied the prisoner for a moment, having this odd sense that he knew him from some where. He frowned thoughtfully, a fang sticking out of his lip. His amber eyes brightened a bit as he remembered, "Hey yer that guy that killed his best friend and fiancee, aren't ya?"
The blue headed boy scowled deeply, his one chocolate eye glaring at the boy in front him. He nodded his head slowly.
"Shit! I knew, I knew ya from somewheres." Genrou grinned at him, "Well, I need ta go check on the guards. Ya jus' stay here." He turned away but stopped at the sound of the other's bitter filled voice, "Why would a guilty man run?"
Genrou looked at the older boy a moment and shrugged, "Hell, I don' know, why mos' would run I guess." He then walked over to the guards, feeling the eye of the prisoner follow him, he shivered under the intense gaze but tried to ignore it as he bent over the still bodies of the guards. He put a couple of fingers to their throats to feel for a pulse, he grinned triumphantly as he felt a faint movement from both. "Kouji! They're all alive!"
"Awright! That's cool!" Kouji grinned from his perch, where he had only caught Genrou's part of the conversation with the prisoner.
"Well, go tell the coppers!"
"Nani? Don' ya want outta there?"
"Hai, demo probably shouldn' leave the injured unattended. We're goin' ta need an ambulance right quick though. They all have lost a lot o' blood."
"Okay," came the reply, "I'll go tell 'em."
Houjun listened to the conversation in between the other boy and probably what was the other boy's friend. He then could here the boy that was obviously on the side of the bus, that was facing up, crawl across it and then nothing.
Turning Genrou walked back to the prisoner, "Well, there should be a ambulance here soon."
Houjun looked at him with a dull eye, "What does it matter if I live?" he grunted out in between clenched teeth, as he fought the pain to speak, "I'm going to die anyway. It's what I deserve for what I did." He then fell silent as he tried to stay upright, more waves of pain washing over him.
The flame haired youth scowled, both fangs sticking out the corners of his mouth, "Well, ain' this jus' peachy. Ya live through all this an' yer not even grateful fer it." He snorted and turned his back on the man, not caring to further the conversation, still having that feeling as if he knew the other boy and not just from TV and newspapers.
------------------------------------------------------ -------------------
Kouji looked around for the cops, cursing the fact that he hadn't asked for the flashlight back. Feeling his way to the end of the bus the boy looked around and saw a light bobbing a few yards away, "Oi!" The light turned on him, "They're all alive!"
"Okay!" came the reply, "Wait there!"
Kouji did as asked and looked questioningly at the cop as he came up.
"This is what is going to happen, I'm going to go up and radio for more squad cars and you're going to call for an ambulance. Got it?' Kouji nodded. "Good, then lets get going." With that O'Malley started to make his way up the incline.
Kouji shrugged as he followed the cop, wondering how long Genrou and him were going to be stuck helping out with this mess now.
Once at the top O'Malley turned to look at the kid, "Well, best get to work. It's going to be a while before this mess gets cleaned up." He walked over to the squad car and started to radio for back up and for someone to get him some information on the transport.
In the mean time Kouji walked over to the Mustang and somehow found the cell phone where he had left it on the trunk in the dark. Picking up he bent down to use the light of the flashing taillights to find the power button, making the numbers light up as he punched it. Standing up he leaned against the car as he dialed 911 and waited for an answer. "Hello," he said calmly as someone answered the phone, "Yeah, I got an accident ta report out here on David Highway…..It was a prisoner bus transport…Well there's only three left so that's all I know that's alive. Demo they all have lost a lot a blood…okay aritgatou." Hanging up the phone he clipped it to his pants, glad that the lady had been cooperative.
O'Malley finished with his contacting came over to where the youth was still leaning against the car, "Will you wait here until people start showing up? That way you can show them where the accident is."
Kouji nodded, "Hai, I c'n do that. It's not a problem."
"Very good," O'Malley answered as he went back to the car to look for some road flares. Finding them he gave them to Kouji, "Set these around the cars, it will help them find us." After getting an okay, the officer went back down the steep bank.
Kouji looked at the flares, "Damn, these things c'n be fun ta play with. Too bad it's such a bad situation." He frowned a moment and then set each flare as he lit it on the ground around the cars. After that was done he went back and sat on the trunk of the mustang to wait.
Which he didn't have to o for long, because a few minutes later a couple of ambulances pulled up. He had just got over to it and said hello when a couple more squad cars pulled up and a few minutes after that a TV crew. He blinked, "How the fuckin' hell did a TV crew get here?"
A paramedic looked at him and shook his head, "They seem to have a sixth sense about these things. Now where are the injured?"
"Down th' hill on th' other side o' th' rail, trapped in th' bus."
Nodding the paramedic went and got his emergency kit, "Alright then show the way. By the way you can call me Jean and this," he motioned to his partner who hadn't spoken, "Is Leon."
Kouji nodded a hello, "I'm Kouji." He was about to lead them away when a couple more Paramedics came up with their emergency kits in hand, "Where are they?'
"Kouji will show us," Jean replied simply as he nodded at the teen.
Kouji waved at the four of them, "Come an' I'll show ya," He looked at the cops that were standing a few feet away, "Ya c'n follow too if ya wan'." Not waiting for any answers he led the group down the hill, with flashlights bobbing.
The cops that had been standing in a group nodded and pulling out their flashlights followed the paramedics and teen down the steep embankment.
Upon reaching the bottom the cops quickly walked over to their comrades to start setting up a search area and to decide what they were going to need exactly to continue the search for the fugitives.
Jean looked at Kouji, "Well, show us where we can find the injured boy, they need our attention."
------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------
Houjun had been studying what was now the floor of the bus ,not caring to talk the pain was enough, when he heard more voices outside. He raised his head to see the other boy looking at him.
"Looks like help has come," the boy's voice was almost relieved.
Houjun just nodded he didn't really care at this point.
Genrou ignored the prisoner and gave a fanged grin when he heard people climbing on top of the bus. Walking to the back he waved a bit, "Oi!"
"Hello!" Jean called down, "You want to take this?" He held up his med kit. Getting an affirmative he handed it down to Genrou before lowering himself in. "You guys just stay up there for the moment," he called. Then turning to Genrou he gave a small smiled, "Well, it's time to get to work."
