Standard Issue Disclaimer:
Welcome again! As usual I'm the one and thankfully ONLY Lance the
Flamesniper. In case you've forgotten I'm the guy who gave people a glimpse into
the mind of Suboshi. Well anyway, ready for my second work in the field of
Fushigi Yuugi ficdom? Too bad, here it is. ^_^
I don't own Fushigi Yuugi, nor am I going to take credit for it. Yuu Watase
however can take credit. Pioneer can take a little credit, though I think that giving
Tasuki an English accent in dubs was tacky. I don't work for either of the above so
it's safe to say I'm not making any money off his work. All I get is e-mail, which I'll
write responses to when possible.
On with the story.

Remembering Suboshi

Yui woke up in a cold sweat. She had dreamed about him again.

The dream was always the same. There he was dressed in clothes Miaka
had told her belonged to Amiboshi, a Seiryuu warrior that she'd never met, and
wielding a ghostly version of his Ryusensui. His last act in life was saving her. It
was at this point right before his proclamation of love to her that she woke up.

"Why? Why do I always dream about that moment?" Yui cried. "Weren't there
any good moments between he and I?"

As if the words were a trigger, memories began to crop up. Her first thoughts
about him: A warrior, not more than a boy really, even though in truth she was not much
older. He had knelt before her talking of his brother and the soothing music that he would
use to ease her heartache. Holding him while that tough facade that he kept while around
Nakago and others fell away with his brother's death. Him being attentive to her while they
traveled, working as both her bodyguard and at times her errand boy. Sometimes she
wondered why he put up with that, now she knew.

Then came the memories of her throwing snow in his face in Genbu and his coming
to her "rescue" when Tamahome held her mere moments later. It was a kind of Naive gallantry she supposed. He cared for her, the only person he had left to care for, and she didn't notice or seemingly care.

Just then a new thought came to her. She had noticed that he cared when he sacrificed
himself and his new life to save her. It was only then she noticed he loved her. But that still didn't tell her why she dreamed about his death. Why couldn't it have been dreams of the way it COULD have been. In hindsight she realized that had she seen this sooner she could have had the kind of romantic ending Miaka had had. Unfortunately all she had left was memories and visions of what could have been. Maybe that was the point.
"I'll always remember you Suboshi. And the love I couldn't see until it was gone," Yui said
as she lay back down. Someone once told her that a person doesn't really die if they are
remembered. And maybe that's what the dream was, her way of reminding her that she'll always be remembering Suboshi.
