Miaka's brow was furrowed with worry as she paced back and forth in the second floor hallway of the inn. The doctor had been in the room treating Tasuki's wounds for quite sometime now and Miaka was growing anxious for word. When she was just about ready to stomp right on in and find out what was taking the doctor so long, the wispy white haired old man opened the door and walked out with his medical bag in his hand.

"So? How is he? Can I go see him now?" Miaka stammered, taking a stance that barred the doctor from leaving before he told her what she needed to hear.

"That arrow was not a nice one," the doctor sighed softly. "I took a bit more work to get it out without causing major internal damage."

"But?" Miaka prodded quickly.

"But after a bit of careful fancy maneuvering, I was able to get it out. Them boys that attacked you use some mighty wicked tips for their arrows," the doctor brooded. Miaka quickly nodded, but a look on her face said she was getting irritated. The doctor took heed of the message and quickly got to the point, "Though he lost a fair amount of blood, there's nothing that stands in the way of a full and speedy recovery. Given, of course, that he takes it easy for a few days and gives it a chance to heal."

"I don't know. This is Tasuki we're talking about, but I'll see what I can do to make him obey doctor's orders," Miaka answered.

"Make sure and do that. He doesn't need to be getting all active and taking a chance on ripping it back open again."

"Right. So can I see him?"

"He's resting now, but, sure. I mean, you are his girlfriend aren't you?" the doctor said with a wry smile before turning and leaving her be. Miaka blinked in shock at what he'd said, but by the time she'd come up with the words to answer him, he was gone. She sighed heavily then stood up straight as she walked through the door and shut it behind her.

The sun had set and the last bands of deep orange were fading into the dark of night that shown through the window as Miaka entered the room. A single large lamp on the nightstand between the two beds provided the room with just the right amount of light, casting deep shadows along the walls and floors where something prevented the light from going any further. And then, finally, there was Tasuki. He lay sound asleep on the bed closest to the door. His chest was bare with a bandage wrapped tightly around his upper torso and over his right shoulder. His shirt was tossed onto a chair in the corner with his jacket and tessen, and his boots were dumped beside the chair.

Miaka whimpered at seeing him, once again, hurt because of her. Even if it was because he was protecting her, she still felt an overwhelming sense of guilt over what had happened. It was one of those things she could never get rid of. No matter how honorable the act was, she always felt guilty for people getting hurt on her account.

The girl's vision blurred as her mind drifted back to the event earlier that day. They had been traveling through one of the more unruly parts of Konan when all the sudden, a storm of arrows began raining from the sky, howling with fury as they plunged themselves into trees and earth. One of them screamed as it chose Miaka for its target. But, at the last moment, Tasuki had screamed out her name as he dove on top of her, knocking her to the ground and hissing as he took the arrow through the right side of his back at a strange angle just beneath the shoulder blade.

"Tasuki!" she'd screamed in horror.

"Dammit! Just shut up and RUN!" he said as he got to his feet, lifting Miaka up with him with his good arm and pushing her along as he ran. She shut up and ran as he told her to, and a moment later, they slid beneath an outcropping of rock to hide and the soldiers stampeded by. Luck was with them as not a single soldier noticed them. Once the coast was clear, they took off running another direction. Eventually, they reached a small town where Miaka found a doctor and an inn to stay at.

Miaka blinked and shook her head, as she found herself back in the present and standing inside the hotel room staring at Tasuki asleep on the bed. She wiped a tear from her eye as she walked over and knelt beside the bed. The tears just kept coming as sobs racked her body.

"Tasuki.. I'm so sorry you got hurt because of me. I hate it when these things happen! I try my best to avoid them and keep you and everyone else from getting hurt, but it just keeps happening!" she sobbed into the mattress by his side.

Hearing the heart wrenching sound of Miaka's tears, Tasuki opened his eyes. He gritted his teeth at both the pain of his wounds and the sound of his miko crying. "Miaka…" he hissed through the wince. "Please.. don't cry. I can't stand it when you cry," he pleaded softly.

"I'm sorry Tasuki! I can't help it. It tears me up when I see you or someone else get hurt cause of me," Miaka said, looking into his gleaming amber orbs.

"Miaka, it's because I love you that I get hurt! No matter what happens, I'll ALWAYS guard you with my life. Nothing you can say or do will ever change that," he replied with deep emotion appearing in his voice and his shimmering eyes. Miaka whimpered and tried to bury her face in the mattress, but Tasuki lifted her chin with his index finger till he could look her square in the eye. "Don't ya EVER forget that. Got it? I would die a hundred deaths if it meant saving your life. Without a second thought I would die a hundred of the most painful deaths anyone could ever think of if that's what I had to do to keep you alive. My getting hurt to protect you is not and never will be you're fault. So, god dammit, stop treating it as if it were. Ya hear me?" he said clearly with words spoken from the bottom of his heart.

Miaka trembled as his words registered in her brain. She finally nodded and he softened. "Please don't cry. I'll be fine. Just as long as ya please don't cry," he said softly. Miaka sniffed and wiped the tears out of her eyes. "Thatta girl," he purred, hugging her lightly despite the shooting pains it produced in his shoulder.

"I'm still sorry you got hurt," she said softly as she sat on the edge of the bed and wrapped her arms around his neck in a gentle hug, trying her best not to hurt him in the process. He sighed deeply at her response and was just about to say something more, but Miaka quickly put an end to it as for some unexplainable reason, she found herself being drawn to his lips. He gasped in surprise as she suddenly captured his lips with her own and kissed him for all he was worth.

When the two were finally forced to break for air, Miaka caught herself and quickly backed away. "I.. I.. I'm sorry Tasuki. I don't know what came over me," she said quickly with a face of shock over what she'd just done.

"Miaka…" Tasuki started with uncertainty.

"Good night, Tasuki," Miaka quickly countered, cutting him off as she raced to the table between the two beds to blow out the lamp before leaping into the other bed and burying herself in the blankets with her back to the wounded seishi.

"Miaka…" Tasuki growled. He then relented with a sigh, though what she had just done set his soul on fire. Despite the storm of flames raging inside the depths of his heart, Tasuki let it be as he gingerly snuggled into his bed and attempted to go to sleep.

The rest of the night and the next days were pretty much uneventful. But then again, neither of them were bold enough to bring up the subject just yet. They left then inn and traveled down the road on horseback. They managed to take the scenic route and thus were forced to spend a night under the stars, but nothing happened. Miaka avoided it and Tasuki didn't push, though his heart told him to do otherwise. By the next evening, they reached another small town just as a large ominous storm front began to move in.

Dinner was spent making casual small talk as the two exchanged stories about their regular lives. Afterward, they went up to the room they had been given by the inn to discover it only had one bed.

"I'll sleep on the floor over there," Tasuki said, pointing to the throw rug by the window.

"Are you nuts? Tasuki, you're hurt! You can't sleep on that floor!" Miaka argued. "I'll sleep on the floor. YOU sleep in the bed."

"You are NOT sleeping on the floor, Miaka."

"Well neither are you!"

"Then I guess we'll just have to share it."

"Fine. But not making any passes at me."

"Who ever said I was gonna make passes at you? You were the one who kissed ME, remember?"

"What? Hey, wait a minute! I was confused! I was over wrought cause you got hurt. I didn't know what I was doing. And besides. You started it!"

"And just HOW, prey tell, did I start it?" Tasuki countered with his hands on his hips and a scowl on his face.

"You tried to kiss me first, back in that shack on Mt. Leikaku. Remember?"

"Pah-WHAT??!! Grrrrrrrrr…" Tasuki growled in frustration.

"Just shut up and get that shirt and jacket off so I can take a look at wound and redress it," Miaka groaned softly in annoyance.

"You think I can't f*ck'n do that all by myself? This isn't the first arrow I've been hit with, god dammit! I'm a big boy. I can take care of myself!"

"I don't give a damn! The doctor entrusted ME to look after you. Now off with the shirt!" Miaka said with a flaring temper. Tasuki swallowed hard and sighed.

"Fine!" he said as he did as he sat down on the side of the bed and did as he was told. "Girlz!" he grumbled with a fussy face and he allowed Miaka to begin figuring out how to undo the bandage.

"Oh hush!"

"…….."

Miaka ignored the hot tempered seishi as she began to slowly unwrap the bandage. He hissed as the last sections were carefully pulled way from the ugly purple scab encrusted flesh of the wound. Miaka made a wincing face with a slight whimper as she gazed at the site. She set the old bandage aside with one hand as she gently prodded the wound with the index finger of the other hand.

"Ow… ow.. oww.. HEY! Dammit! Cut it out!" Tasuki whined. Miaka glared at him. He shot her a fussy face right back.

Miaka just ignored the fussy face as she produced the extra bandages and ointment the doctor had supplied her with and set them on the bed. Then she went over to the wash basin and soaked a rag and the water. Wringing it out, she walked back over to Tasuki and sat down beside him on the bed as she proceeded to clean the wound. Tasuki winced, gritting his teeth, but didn't complain. The pain from the wound was still strong, but the coolness of the wet cloth seemed to soothe it somehow. And then there was the fact that it was Miaka who was the one doctoring him. For that reason, he kept quiet. Even though he pretended to be annoyed by her at times, deep inside his heart, he didn't mind it at all. Secretly, he cherished every moment he spent with her. Whether it be good or bad, it didn't matter. He still cherished it, burning what moments he could into his memory forever.

Once she was finished cleaning the wound, Miaka set the rag and the bandages in the basin of water to soak. Returning back to Tasuki's side, she opened the jar of ointment and scooped some of the cream onto her fingers. Tasuki yelped quietly as her fingers met his sore skin, but he held his tongue as she began to rub the cream in. He yelped a few more times, indicating when she'd rubbed a little too hard, but still he said nothing.

Finally, she got to the bandage and by this time, he was getting a little irritated at the pain as she began firmly wrapping the strip of cloth around him. "Ow.. ow-ow.. ow.. Hey! Ow.. Hey! Miaka! Dammit, go easy, will ya?!" he whined as she dressed his wound.

"Calm down! Baby! Ya want it to fall off?" Miaka countered.

"Dammit! You can still wrap it where it won't fall off without wrapping it so hard ya cut off the blood flow! Geez! And besides that, yer wrapping an arrow wound for cry'n out load!"

"Whiner!" Miaka said with a groan. Tasuki winced hard as she tied off the bandage. "There. All done," Miaka announced once she was finished.

"Hmph," was his response as he crossed his arms with a fussy look once again present on his face. Miaka grumbled and stood up, taking the jar of ointment with her as she went over to the wash basin and started to wash the blood out of the rag and bandages. As she did so, Tasuki scooted up on the bed and sprawled out on the left side close to the door and across from the basin in the corner with his right leg casually bent up as he closed his eyes and relaxed.

A few minutes later, half way between wake and sleep, Tasuki felt the mattress depress beside him as Miaka climbed into bed with a soft sigh. She laid down and closed her eyes, but a moment after she began to relax, lightning flashed outside the window and was instantaneously followed by a clap of thunder that shook the building. Miaka let out a short screech of surprise as she jolted into a sitting position along with Tasuki. They sat frozen like that for a moment before the rain began to pour from the sky and pelt the earth. The two relaxed with a sigh of relief as the torrent of rain began to fall. Tasuki groaned as he got up and walked over to the window. He reached out into the rainy night and pulled the shudders closed, then flipped the latch on them and returned to the bed.

Tasuki climbed back into bed, this time kicking off his boots before crawling beneath the covers, and laid back down. Miaka sighed again as she worked on calming down her nerves and laid back down as well. Tasuki blinked behind his closed eyelids, "Miaka.. You forgot the light."

"Oh! Duh!" Miaka said, smacking herself in the face. Tasuki opened one eye and slipped a quiet chuckle as Miaka leaned over and blew out the lamp. He quickly shut it again just before she turned back around.

Miaka once again laid down and snuggled into the bed as she pulled the covers over her shoulders. She closed her eyes and attempted, once again, to go to sleep, but the storm raging outside would not allow it as first a distant rumble sounded, then a brief flash of light registered and an even bigger crash of thunder rattled the inn on it's foundation.

"ACK!" Miaka screamed as she bolted into a sitting position again, this time up closer to Tasuki who sat up just after she. He looked over at her to see a look of fear fade to one of extreme annoyance in the ambience of the lightning flashing outside as she produced a low grumble. "Dammit! This storm is NOT gonna allow anyone to sleep till it's finished!" she growled angrily.

Tasuki turned away with a look of pity on his face, but a moment later, he lost the lid that held the laughter at bay in his giggle box and his body quaked as soft chuckles floated into the air.

"Tasuki! That's not funny!" she hissed as she swatted his head. But the effort only made him laugh harder between winces for the flashes of pain it produced in his right shoulder. Miaka grumbled and crossed her arms as he laughed. A few moments later, he became quiet again. Though a few moments after that, another couple of loud claps of thunder instantly brought Miaka away from the window and up tight to the seishi.

Tasuki sighed and bowed his head slightly as he wrapped his good arm around the girl. Miaka tensed at first, but then relaxed and allowed him to hold her. As the lightning flashed and the thunder rumbled again, this time, Miaka found herself, rather than tensing up with fear, burning with some new source of energy. His touch, his embrace, his affection, his protection… it lit a spark of a different kind deep within her soul. The longer he held her, the more she stared at him, the larger and hotter the flame became. Within moments, she relented to its will, the will of her heart, and snuck in to, once again, steal his lips.

Tasuki gasped again as he found her lips sweetly attached to his. He wanted this more than anything, never wanted it to end, but he knew he had to play advocate in order for it to become right. He gently pushed Miaka away just enough to break the kiss then looked her square in the eye, "Listen Miaka. I can't do this unless I know that it's absolutely what you want. Back out now if there's even the slightest bit of uncertainty. I won't be mad or hurt if you do. Because once I've gotten you, it's forever."

Miaka gasped as he stared through her eyes and into her soul to say the words he said. His amber eyes seemed to glow under the flame of passion that burned inside his heart. With one look into his eyes, she could tell he had meant what he said. If she stepped any further, it would be forever. There would be no turning back. For if she did, it would clearly tear him apart and put an end to him. She gave his words some deep thought, knowing that what ever decision she made would be permanent. But no matter how hard she thought about it, no matter how hard she thought about how her decision would effect Tamahome, her heart kept calling out to her and drawing her right back into the flame that Tasuki had thrown into her heart and soul. Through her mind's eye, she recalled all the times that he had risked his life for her, including when he allowed the evil Tamahome to beat the shit out of him just because she told him not to hurt the boy. She remembered all the times Tasuki had fought with Tamahome and whined because the other seishi had made Miaka cry. She though about all of those rare times with his heart was opened and his deepest emotions were there for her to see. Emotions that provided the reason why he was one of her strongest seishi, if not THE strongest. After a moment, all she could see in her mind was how she felt about Tasuki. It was then that she realized the choice she must make.

Miaka bowed her head and sighed, and Tasuki thought he'd lost. But then the softest whisper met his ear, "Then it's forever." The moment those words registered in his mind, Tasuki blinked in surprise as his body trembled slightly in realization that he had actually won. She was his. He could hardly believe it. She was his, forever.

"I.. I've.. never done this before," he said timidly in the moment before their bodies met.

"Neither have I," she whispered softly as she closed her eyes and returned her lips to his. This time, he closed his eyes as freedom allowed him to quickly become just as much involved as she was. Their lips met in a blissful union, and their tongues reached out to intertwine for the very first time. Miaka whimpered into his mouth with the strange feeling as if she had been kissed for the first time all over again. Warmth spread throughout her being like it never had before and it was then that she realized the decision she had made was the right one.

The kiss broke and met again after a breath of fresh air as clothing began to shed and pool up together on the floor. The thunder crashed, the lighting flashed, the rain poured, and the winds roared. Yet the storm that raged outside found a backseat as the storm that burned inside, within the hearts of the two lovers and in the air around their mingling bodies, flared up and became the only thing in the universe besides them.

Warm trembling hands roamed hot and sensuous bodies, seeking to learn every curve in the stormy darkness that now became so right. The breath of the seishi and miko quickly leapt up to tell the tale of a marathon as miko was coaxed to the bed with her chocolate hair pooling around her and the hungry wolven seishi followed her to the mattress. He used his good arm to prop himself up over her as his lips strayed from hers and began to travel her body.

The miko's fleshy earlobe became the first target and victim of the bandit wolf's attention, producing a whimper from the earlobe's owner. The seishi's lips left the earlobe to meet with the side of her neck where the wolf's tongue licked wet spots and his fangs nibbled lightly. Miaka arched her back and whined pleasantly with a shiver that raced through her body as Tasuki's mouth trailed down her neck to run further down her collar bone to meet with the center of her chest.

The wolf's tongue bathed the young priestess's right breast, causing the girl to giggle. Then he boldly licked the hardened nipple before taking it into his mouth and nibbling on it with the gentlest touch. Miaka arched her back and moaned, and her seishi grinned a fangy grin before kissing down to her belly button, revealing in the softness of the silky creamy skin that met his lips. He kissed his way back up to her left breast and gave it the same treatment as he gave the right. Then, he proceeded to kiss up the left side of her collar bone.

Miaka whimpered and shivered as Tasuki made his way up the left side of her neck. He kicked her ear before turning to whisper into it in the softest of voices, "This might hurt the first time."

"I'll be brave," Miaka whispered back. Tasuki licked her ear and trailed kisses slowly across her cheek as he positioned himself and brought his tip to touch her hot wet tunnel. She gasped softly while he kissed her cheek a few moments more. Then, in one fluid, motion of the gentlest degree, he covered her mouth with his, twining his tongue with hers, and his manhood slipped deep into her tunnel with a gentle jerk of his hips.

The moment he reached all the way in, Miaka felt something give way, and she hugged him tightly as she screamed into his mouth from the pain. Tears wet her eyes, and the whole ordeal of causing her this pain made Tasuki tear up as well, but he held her tight with soothing tenderness, releasing her mouth as she fought for breath that would make the pain go away. A minute later, she relaxed beneath him, her chest heaving as the pain disappeared and the pleasure of him inside her began to overwhelm her.

A moment after Miaka relaxed in Tasuki's arms, he returned to attack her mouth with gentle, yet still hungrily flaming passion as he began to pump inside her. The pain in his shoulder flared in annoyance, but he simply ignored it as he made love to the woman of his dreams with increasing intensity. His tongue played games with hers as his member worked its magic within her with increasing power and delight. Lips ravaged lips and teeth teazed flaming skin as the storm of passion raged on parallel to the element's screaming their fury outside.

The breath of the to lovers puffed like the chug of a freight train as bodies mingled and merged in an intimate ballet of passion amongst the sheets. Skin became a raging inferno of scorching flesh, fed by the hearts of the young dancers. Sounds of pleasure rolled out of their throats in time to the rhythm of the beat set within their squirming bodies.

Then, Miaka felt the climax arrive as a rush of intensity raced through her body and tighted every muscle she had. She wrapped her legs around him as the climax finally arrived, paralyzing her stiff, then producing an echoing scream that was swallowed up by the rainstorm's thunder as her body finally released with a shudder the moment his manhood reached as far as it could go.

Miaka's chest heaved as Tasuki thrust a few more times before it became his turn to climax. With a final gasp and a loud grunt, he exploded deep into her body and soul, his seed spilling into her and merging their souls together through the act of love. Exhausted, the seishi collapsed atop his beloved miko to catch his breath. A minute later, as their bodies calmed, he wearily raised up and withdrew, then laid down on his side beside her and attempted to roll her over onto his chest as he moved onto his back. He was instantly rewarded with a stunning flash of pain in his shoulder as a consequence of trying to lift her in his injured state after such a taxing event.

Tasuki growled with a wince at the pain as stars briefly danced before his eyes, "Arg! Dammit! I forgot! I'm not suppose to do that! Grrrr…"

"Tasuki! You baka," Miaka scolded as she rolled over to lay her head on his chest of her own accord. "You need to learn to be a little more careful with that shoulder."

"Yeah, I know," Tasuki pouted in a softer voice.

"Tasuki?"

"Huh?" came his voice softer still.

"I love you."

"I love you, Miaka," he said at almost a whisper.

"Forever."

"Forever," he agreed with a whisper that was quickly stifled by Miaka's lips in a soft, pleasantly sweet, slow, and deep kiss. His body slowly relaxed beneath her as his breathing became rhythmically slow and deep. Miaka broke the kiss and pulled away. The peacefully closed eyes along with the arrival of his soft snores told her he was fast asleep. She smiled adoringly and kissed his cheek before laying her head back down on his chest and closing her eyes. A minute later, she too found the land of sleep, with him already waiting there to catch her as she fell and hold her close to him in their dreams alongside reality for the rest of the night.

I hoped ya liked it. Personally, I would have been cowering in his arms during that nasty ol' storm, but that's just me. LOL I tried to make it as in character as possible and make it work. Yall will have to be the judge on whether or not I succeeded. So please review. ^_^ I can't get any better unless ya do. ^_~
