Sunrise Reminiscing
.Chapter 2. Work and Chaos
By: Gator Ri
I would appreciate to know what you all think of this so far. Thanks to those who have given me feedback, no da. There will be lemon but that will be later just wait for it. ^_~ Okay enough of my babbling.
It had been a week since I had arrived and settled into my room on campus and there was still no sign of my roommate. I smiled at this, perhaps he wouldn't come and I could have the room to myself. I wouldn't mind being alone, for it meant that I would have privacy.
I looked at the clock on my desk and realized I needed to be at work soon. So grabbing my keys, I put them in my pocket as I walked out the door locking it behind me.
The walk across campus was enjoyable for the sun was shining down warmly but there was a slight breeze that was blowing, making the air pleasant.
Reaching the campus bookstore I walked in and went to the back, noticing on my way through that my co-worker was talking not working I frowned slightly at this. After punching in I checked myself in the full length mirror everything was in place; from my neatly groomed ponytail, to my white button up shirt and khakis, to my clean brown leather loafers.
Turning from the boy with the chocolate eyes in the mirror, I walked back out into the store, making my way to the large counter near the front.
Walking behind it I gave a nod to my co-worker, who was a second year, and picked up the list of things to do. The frown on my face deepened a bit as I noticed that my co-worker was still talking to his friends, I was getting a bit irritated.
"Have you seen the list?" I asked in a low cold voice.
The boy looked at me and nodded before turning back to his friends.
My frown deepened, my irritation rising, "Then perhaps," I consulted the list for his name, "Derek, we should get started," my voice had become colder, "There is plenty of time to talk later."
Derek's friends noted my tone and quickly made their way out the door. He turned to me with a frown, "Who do you think you are to be ordering me around," his auburn curls flopped with his irritation.
I pointed to the list of employees on the wall behind me, "Perhaps you haven['t noticed that I ma one of the student assistant managers."
He gave me an uncertain smile, "Uh, yeah, I se it now."
I gave him a cold smile as I showed him the chores that he would do, naturally I gave him all the cleaning, he was a little bug that needed discipline anyway so I didn't feel bad.
While he was cleaning I walked around and took care of the other part of the list, stocking, and straightening.
I was just finishing stocking the pencils when I heard someone come in with a rather loud sigh. I frowned, for to me this spelled troublemaker.
"Ah, so this is the place!" he said loudly.
Leaving the box of pencils I motioned Derek to keep working, while I made my way to the front of the store. I frowned at what I saw there, a guy, younger than me, with unruly red hair, his T-shirt half tucked in, jeans with holes in the knees, and dirty tennis shoes completed the whole untidiness of him.
I gave him a smile with out warmth, "May I help you?"
He looked at me with fiery amber eyes, a smile crossing his handsome face, causing pointed canines to poke out at the corners, "Naw, ch' I was jus' comin' ta see the' place where I buy my books."
I nodded my head, a first year, "I see."
"Can I take a look around?" he asked.
I shrugged my shoulders, "I don't own the place."
"Ch' could've fooled me," he grumbled as he walked off.
I narrowed my eyes at the rude boy's back, taking an instant dislike to him, as I went back to work.
I was just coming out of the back room, from putting the box of pencils away, when I heard laughter near the front of the store. Frowning at this and wondering what was going on I made my way there only to see the red head prancing around in front of a group of students with Derek's mop, holding it as if it were a woman, and a stuffed animal of our school mascot strapped to his head.
I closed my jaw suddenly, realizing that it had been hanging open, as I clench it in irritation.
Striding over I stopped in front of the boy, arms across my chest and frown in place.
"What do you think you're doing?" I asked in a low chilly voice.
He immediately stopped, as did the crowd, and looked at me as he shrugged, "Tryin' to raise school spirit."
My eyes bore into him like daggers making him flinch, although he tried to hide it, "Not here you don't. This is a place of business not a place of game. You either clean with that mop and buy that tiger on you head or leave."
He seemed to regard me for a few moments, his amber eyes sparking in quiet anger. Then shrugging he shoved the mop back at Derek and pulled the animal off his head throwing it at me, before he stormed out.
A bit off guard I almost missed the stuffed tiger, as well as almost losing my balance, catching it and with it now safely in my arms I glared at the others who quickly cleared.
Derek glared at me before going back to work.
Sighing I replaced the tiger and went back to my own work, only a couple of more and I could go back to my room and relax.
----------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------
I stormed back to my room, a string of curses coming past my lips, 'Who the hell did that guy think he was!? Telling me to leave the bookstore, not like I hurt anything.'
My mood didn't improve on getting back to my room as I looked at my stack of half unpacked boxes and then to the part of the room that was arranged neatly in perfect order, the bottom bunk made neatly as well.
I groaned as I raked my hand through my unruly flame colored hair, "What n' the did I do to get a neat freak for a roommate?" I grumbled to myself.
I by far was not one of the neatest or most organized of people and it showed in the little bit I had unpacked. My desk was piled with supplies for school, while his was clear and organized with a laptop sitting on it. My clothes were shove in my drawers with pieces of them sticking out and my personals in a jumbled arrangement, his had no clothes sticking out and the pictures of his family was neatly arranged. I peered at the pictures, wondering if one of the people was he but in my anger I honestly didn't care.
Blowing at my bangs in anger I started unpacking the rest of my stuff, trying to put it in some sort of order, hopefully before whomever my roommate was returned.
-------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------
I looked at the clock it was finally time to close the store. Taking the box of notebooks back in to the storage room I then moved to the front of the store and flipped the sign to closed.
I would take a bit before I could leave though with me being the only one to close, Derek having left an hour ago. I had the drawers to take care of, as well as a bit of cleaning to do yet.
About an hour later I was stepping into the commons and locking the doors, finally. It had been a long day and I just wanted to grab a snack from the vending machine and go back to my room, maybe even fall asleep while reading a good book.
I was just finishing off the candy bar that I had got when I reached the building where my room was. I frowned upon noticing that a light was on in my window, I shrugged it off thinking that I just may have left it on when I had left for work.
Walking into the building I walked down the hall towards my room, ignoring the people in the lobby.
Pulling out my keys when I reached room seven I unlocked it or rather noticed that it was unlocked. Brows furrowing in confusion I stuck my keys back in my pocket and then taking the door knob in hand I entered and was met with complete and utter chaos. My once tidy and orderly room was now covered in clothes, bedding, CDs, and cords.
I blinked my eyes in shock as they roved around the room, finally coming to rest on the cause of the chaos, who happened to be hooking his playstation to my TV.
