Sunrise Reminiscing

.Chapter 4. Friends - Old and New

By: Gator Ri

I woke the next morning to the sun in my face and the snoring of my, I frowned, roommate. Sighing I opened my eyes and was greeted with not the empty desk a and dresser that I had been for the last week but instead of the mess and untidiness.

I thought about yesterday, I normally wasn't cold and rude in fact I was usually quite friendly, especially around family and friends. But there was something about the fiery boy that angered me. Although, I was usually a bit cold strangers but this was bit more than being cold. Could it be that I was protecting myself?

Shrugging my shoulders I pinched the bridge of my nose to stave the migraine that I could feel starting, as I shoved the thoughts away as well. Then with a soft groan I sat up and rubbed at my eyes to get the sleep out of them. Swinging the covers back I swung my legs over the edge of the bed and stood up stretching as I yawned.

I made my way to the bathroom, scowling as I entered and saw Tasuki's discarded clothes on the floor.

A few minutes later I came out of the bathroom and went over to my desk. Turning on my laptop I turned and looked at my still snoring roommate, shaking my head I turned back to my computer and sat down.

I had been clicking away at my computer for sometime when I heard a groan and a yawn from the bunks behind me. I sighed softly, wishing that he could've slept the rest of day. Looking at my clock, my eyes widened slightly, I was going to be late for meeting my friends if I didn't hurry.

Saving the document that I had been working on I shut my laptop down and walked over to my dresser to dig out some clothes to wear.

"Well, good morning to you too," I heard Tasuki grumble at me as he jumped to the floor.

I gave him a shrug and a cool look as I turned around with clean clothes in my arms, "Would you mind stepping aside?"

He let out an aggravated sigh as he moved more out of my way, although there had been plenty of room for me to pass by before.

I gave him a nod then as I walked by closing the bathroom door behind me.

Putting my clothes on the floor I turned the shower on to get the water warmed up. A few minutes later as I was stepping into the shower I hear Tasuki bang on the door.

"Hurry up! Some of us hafta us th' toilet! How long ya goin' to be?"

I pretended not to hear him as a smile played at my lips guess he should've went when the bathroom was empty. Thus I took my time in the shower, as much as I dared that is.

Finally shutting off the warm spray I picked my towel off the rack and dries off as I stepped from the shower.

"Come on! I gotta go!" I hear yelled from the room as I dressed in my boxers, a comfortable pair of khakis, and a white T-shirt. I ignored it as I stepped in front of the mirror and brushed out my waist length hair.

Grabbing a yellow hair band I brushed my hair back into a neat ponytail and secured it. Then switching my hairbrush for my toothbrush, I gave my teeth a good scrubbing.

Done I replaces all of my stuff and picked up my sweatpants and dirty boxers as I opened the bathroom door. As I stepped out I was greeted with a very uncomfortable looking Tasuki.

"Bout time you're out," he grumbled as he got up and walked past me and into the bathroom, slamming the door behind him.

I ignored him and dumped my sweatpants on my bed before going to my closet and dropping the boxers in my laundry. Flipping through the clothes that hung there, I selected a navy blue button up shirt with short sleeves.

As I was buttoning it up I heard the bathroom door open. After a coupled of minutes of feeling Tasuki's eyes on me I turned to him, "What?" I asked in an irritated fashion.

"Nothin'," he mumbled as he walked over to the TV and turned it on.

I blew out a rather frustrated breath as I tucked the shirt in and grabbed my wallet and keys. Then as I was about to go out the door I turned to the boy, "Have this place cleaned up by the time I get back tonight."

Turning on my heel I went out the door to the sound of Tasuki's grumbling. I just shrugged it off as I made my way towards the commons across campus to meet my friends.

I glowered at the TV, "Who does Chichiri think he is? Telling me to pick up my stuff. He's not my mom."

Scowling deeply I grabbed my clothes from yesterday and headed into the bathroom for a shower.

A while later I emerged with my hair plastered to my head from the water and my stomach growling. Looking at the clock, I frowned deeper, it was getting rather late in the morning. If I didn't hurry they wouldn't be serving breakfast.

Grabbing my keys and wallet from the pile on my dresser I flew out the door and across campus.

Reaching the commons I sighed in relief as I entered the building and saw that people were still getting breakfast. Now the only problem was to decide which restaurant to get food from, there were so many choices, from Mexican to Chinese.

Shrugging I just got in the shortest line and looked around the bustling room with all the students.

After getting my food I stood a moment looking for an empty spot. Seeing one I made my way to it and sat down at the table with my tray.

As I was cutting my pancakes, which were drowned in syrup, I saw Chichiri sitting with some other guys, they were obviously friends from the way they were all alughing.

I blinked my amber eyes at this for he didn't look to be the same person he looked friendly.

I gave a shake to my head as I noticed that someone was waving their hand in front of my face, "What?" I grumbled not caring to be interrupted as I looked at a boy with unruly curls.

He frowned slightly, his smile dimming, "I was just going to say hi. You don't have to bite my head off."

I gave him a sheepish grin, "Sorry, I wasn' paying attention."

He grinned at me, "It's okay I just wanted to congratulate you on catching Chichiri off guard yesterday."

I quirked an eyebrow at him, "What d'ya mean?"

"When you threw that stuffed tiger at him. The look on his face was classic," the boy gave a soft chuckle.

I suddenly grinned as I thought about it, "Yeah it must've been, I didn' see it. You're the boy with th' mop aren' ya?"

He nodded, "Yeah, the name is Derek."

"I'm Tasuki."

"Nice to meet you. Oh! Hey you want to come and eat with us?"

I nodded, "Sure," was better than eating alone.

"Great! I know the guys will love to meet you."

"Why?" I as I stood and picked up my tray.

"None of us care much for Chichiri. Although, lots of people thinks he's okay. But he's never been very friendly to us," he said as he stood and started walking.

I gave a soft chuckle, "Yeah, he is a bastard. Why is he cold to ya guys?"

"Aw, we played a joke on him last year. Ruffled his feathers pretty good, the thing is it was meant for his roommate."

My eyes widened, "No shit. Well, at least he has a reason fer not likn' you guys me he jus' hates."

---------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------

"So, Chichiri, has your new roommate come yet?" Anda asked, his almond shaped eyes looking at me curiously.

The smile immediately disappeared off my face, "Unfortunately yes," I ansered.

"What's he like?" asked Kurt, taking interest.

I frowned a bit deeper, "Well, he's loud, obnoxious, a pig, and a troublemaker. And that's only after one night."

"How do you know he's a troublemaker?" the Chinese boy asked.

I told them the story of what had happened in the bookstore yesterday.

They laughed a little but mostly agreed with me.

"Sounds like you have it rough this year," Brent broke in.

I nodded, "Yeah, it will e a long year. But as I am the oldest I have some authority. I just hope that he keeps out of trouble enough that no pranks are played."

The other three nodded, "Yeah, don't need anything like last year, "they said.
