Fushigi Yuugi Fan Fiction ❯ The Girl and the Curse ❯ What’s this? ( Chapter 3 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Author's Note: I have three readers! I'm so happy! (thinks) I'm such a dork. Any ways sorry about the wait for any of you on this chapter, I was having a slight case of writers block. I just couldn't think of a way to start the chapter, but I figured it out so no worries. I am very sorry about any spelling and/or grammar mistakes there are in this chapter. (I do use spell check but words that sound alike or are spelled alike totally mess me up, I'm slightly dyslexic) I don't think that's spelled right. (gets depressed)

Emily: Izumi you get to do the disclaimer this time.

Izumi: (sarcastically) Yea and you can go screw yourself while you're at it.

Emily: (glares at Izumi) If you don't do it I'll make you do something in this chapter that you really won't like.

Izumi: (snorts) Like what?

Emily: (grins evilly) Maybe I'll make you sleep with Genrou, or Kouji.

Izumi: (turns pale) Gross, Ok ok I'll do the stupid disclaimer.

Emily: (big smile) Good girl.

Izumi: Emily aka antyem13 dose not own F. Y. or almost anything else for that matter, hell even her own characters get away from her.

Emily: I really don't like you right now Izumi. (Izumi grins) Now then on with the story. (people cheer in the back round) (Emily looks around with confused look on her face)

Chapter 3:

What's this?

0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0

When Izumi's injury to her leg finally healed (it felt like forever to her, but it was only two weeks) she was outside of the stronghold every day. She trained with the bandits when ever she could, she loved being able to beat almost every one of them in fighting. True most of the bandits where not so pleased to learn that she was indeed a better fighter then them, but they knew they didn't have to worry about her getting hurt. Most of the bandits had started to feel rather protective about her, she was the only girl there, being so they almost started to see themselves as older brothers (despite the fact that several where younger then her). If she had ever been hurt wile she was there, revenge would have been a group effort. She was happy, something she could hardly believe was true. Some how this crazy bunch of bandits had gotten into her heart faster then she could stop them.

Despite all her closeness to the bandits she still didn't tell them anything about her past. She was sure that they would turn on her and force her out. She knew she would have to leave here on her own will and she would have to do it fast when the problems started to occur.

She found herself thinking on her situation one day while sitting under the willow tree, when she noticed someone walking towards her. She could tell who it was from afar, that red hair was unmistakable. Why would he come out here to talk to me? Usually he just waits until whoever he wants to talk to goes to him, it's almost creepy the way the bandits always can tell if he needs to talk to them. She found herself starting at him as he walked over to her.

He waved his hand in front of her face “Anybody in there?” She snapped out of her trance.

“What do you want?” she snapped trying her hardest to act like nothing strange had happened.

“I was wondering if you wanted to go on a raid with us,” he said casually.

Her eyes took on a mischievous glint, “Who are we robbing?”

Genrou's face took on a sour look “It's not robbing its raiding.”

“You're still taking what's technically theirs and that's robbing, but who cares. Just tell me who already.” She said in a rush to get the information he had.

He just raised an eyebrow at her “Never mind we don't need you there.”

She was kind of expecting something like this and already had a plan to get him back. She quickly kicked his feet out from under him, hearing a satisfying grunt as he hit the ground. She ran away for all she was worth knowing he would get her back for her little stunt. She had only been running about 30 seconds when she felt something hit her feet resulting in her going down with a loud `thump.'

“Itai,” was all she said after she stopped skidding across the ground. She looked behind her to see Genrou looking at her with a smirk. She was thoroughly confused how in the hell did he catch up to me so fast. I'm a fast runner, even most of the bandits can't keep up with me, so how did he get me so quick. “How are you so fast? I've never met anyone who could catch me so quickly.”

He smirked at her “I'm a Suzaku shinchi seishi. So I can do some things other people can't.”

This didn't help her much, she still didn't know what he was talking about. She gave him a look of confusion “Nani?”

“You really need to learn about legends.” Was all he said to her, while walking back to the willow tree to get comfortable to explain some things to her. She fallowed out of curiosity.

After hearing all about Suzaku and a short summery of what had happened with Miaka and the rest of them, she just sat there still letting it sink in.

“Wow,” she said. “So where are the other 6 seishi,” she asked. (he left out the deaths of his friends and yes this is the part where the sentence in the summary came from, well sort of)

His face became clouded “There are only two left me an' Chichiri. Tamahome ended up goig' to Miaka's world and others well they all….” his voice trailed off. She already knew what the last word was. Her eyes widened for an instant, and then she did something very out of character for her. She put a hand on his shoulder, in a comforting way.

“I'm sorry. I know too well what its like to lose someone.” Her eyes grew dark with sorrow, at the memories that her train of thought brought up. They sat like that for short while, each unknowingly helping the other. That was the first time she had even mentioned her past, and the first time she learned of his. After a few minutes of drawing comfort from each other she slowly got up, readying to go back to the stronghold.

“You gonna come with me to lunch or ya gonna sit there all day?” she asked in a voice that was gentle yet strong at the same time. He snapped out of the trance he had been in, and looked up at her. She had an odd look in her eyes it was almost like… sympathy? Maybe it was just understanding but ether way he found the look strangely comforting. He jumped up, regaining his normal composure, and followed her to the stronghold for lunch.

Later that night Izumi lay in bed unable to find the sleep she needed. Her mind kept replaying the conversation she had with Genrou, or Tasuki the other name she had learned for him that day. She felt something different in him, it was a side he had never shown to her before, and she instinctively knew that not many had seen that side of him. She didn't really know what to think of the fact that he had chosen her of all people to trust with his emotions. It made her happy yet very depressed at the same time, and she couldn't figure out why she felt ether feelings.

There is no reason for me to feel like this, so why do I? She was more confused then she had ever been, quite a feat for her. During all of her life she had never felt like this, true she had never let anyone get to her like the people hear, but why should that matter? Maybe because that means you're starting to let yourself feel again, said a deviant voice in her head.

“I don't need any input from you dam it,” she said aloud. She sighed loudly “I give up maybe if I stop trying to sleep I'll be able to.” She got out of bed and opened her door, the hall was empty. She quietly walked past the other rooms and almost ran to get outside. She sat on the steps that lead to open ground from the covered porch like area on that side of the stronghold. She took a few deep breaths ah this is better. She just sat there for a while enjoying the peace of the night. For some reason she felt like she was being watched but when she looked around she could find nothing.

“Must just be paranoid,” she said to herself as she stood up. She walked out from under the porch. She stood in a ready position. She turned to her right and started forward. She made a complicated pattern with her hands; it was a dance her mother had taught to her. She executed a series of different spins and even a back flip at one point. She was almost done when she suddenly felt like someone was watching her again. She stopped in her tracks looking around as fast as she could.

“Who's there?” she tried.

“Don' worry its just me.” She spun around as fast as she could to the source of the voice, but she spun a little too fast for her feet to keep up. She ended up falling ungracefully onto her butt, facing the person who had spoken.

Of all the people it could have been, why him? She could already feel herself turning red from embarrassment. Genrou was leaning on the railing of the porch you could tell he was trying not to laugh. She let out a sigh thinking he would never let her forget what had just happened.

“What the hell are you doing out here?” She felt like strangling him.

“This is where I come when I can't sleep. What about you?”

“I couldn't sleep ether,” she replied feeling rather stupid. She walked back to the porch and sat down where she had been before. Then she remembered what it was she had been doing before she noticed he was there, she almost blushed again at the thought of him seeing her dance.

“Ano, how long have you been out here?”

“I was out here before you were.” Unfortunately that answered her question. She was mortified why, why did it just have to be him that saw me. Why not any of the other bandits, hell Kouji would have just laughed. Oh dam this is gonna be miserable.

“So what were you doin out there?” She herd the question but was too shocked to answer at first. She was expecting a snide remark about how clumsy she was or something like that. Genrou took the silence as her not wanting to answer his question.

“You don't have ta tell me,” he said in a rather… soft voice?

“Sorry, I was just surprised is all. It's a dance that my mother taught to me when I was little. I remember her telling me that the dance was very old and that if I didn't teach it to at least one of my children, she would come back to haunt me till the end of my days.” She smiled slightly at the memory, giving a small snort that would have been the beginning of a laugh if not for the pain that came next.

Genrou sat next to her on the steps, nether of them looked at each other, instead they both kept gazing in front of them.

“So what is your family like, or do ya' wan' ta' talk `bout them?” She stayed silent for a moment not sure what to do. Before she knew what she was doing she was speaking.

“I had one older brother, we were pretty close. I used to think of him as my best friend when we were still kids. My father was a blacksmith, he loved to make weapons, they where his specialty. My mother made fans, that's where I learned how to fix my fighting fans and how to make them. She taught me how to fight with fans too. Both my parents where strong, they used to say that they had to marry each other because every one else was scared of there strength.” She was smiling at the memory that where coming to her head, but there was sadness in her smile.

“My brother's favorite weapon was daggers. He didn't like swords like my father, and he wouldn't touch a fan to save his life,” she snorted softly at the memory. “I used all three. My father taught me how to use the sword, my brother taught me how to use daggers, and my mother taught me how to use my fans. They've been dead for a long time now. It happened when I was 15.” She said the last part with no emotion. It sounded strange, even to her. She wanted to change the subject so she said the first thing that came to mind.

“Can I… call you Tasuki instead of Genrou?” she asked sounding a little shy.
He looked at her oddly “sure if you want to, but why?”

“It just… seems to fit you better then Genrou,” was all she said. She was quiet for a moment.

“What about your family?” she asked quietly.

“I had five older sisters. My mom and them used to boss me around all the time. My dad is never noticed. He doesn't exactly stand out among them. I left when I was 15 to become a man. If I stayed there I think I would have gone insane. I ended up joining the bandits. The old boss taught me a lot, how to fight with a sword, and my Harisen. He was more like a father to me then my real one. It was hard when he died. I ended up not being here when he did, right when I got back was when I met Miaka and fought for Konan. It was two years later when we had to fight Tenko, and that was a year ago.”

They sat there in silence for a while. Each lost in their own thoughts. After thinking for far too long in her opinion, Izumi started to feel tired. It was starting to get hard to keep her eyes open. I should get up and go back to bed. Thinking that was the last thing she remembered.

Tasuki was still lost in thought, he was about to say that they should get some sleep and go back to bed when he noticed that there was something wrong. He looked closer at Izumi she's asleep. He laughed silently. I guess she'll be able to sleep now. He carefully picked her up bridle style. He carried her to her bed and made sure she was covered with blankets and silently left. He went back to his room to sleep for the rest of the night.

Izumi woke up very confused how did I get back to my bed? I don't remember walking back to my room. What happened after I feel asleep outside? She was still confused but figured she would just have to ask Tasuki.

Oh man he's gonna tease me to no end about that dance, and then she remembered that she had told him about her family. Oh shimatta why did I open my stupid mouth. She was sure that she shouldn't have said anything bout her past let alone her family. This is not good if I get too attached to these people it will be harder to leave when I have to. I should be especially careful to avoid getting attached too him, I bet even if I was a normal girl having a relationship with him would be hard.

She paused for a moment. RELATIONSHIP!! Where did THAT come from?? I must be losing my mind, yep I have officially gone insane, that's simply the only explanation. She felt like trying to scrub her mind until all thoughts of the odd red headed man where erased from her memory. Unfortunately for her she didn't have that particular ability.

She dressed with more care then was necessary, thinking that maybe if she was able to focus enough on what she was doing she would be able to act like nothing had happened last night. She was far from anxious to get down to breakfast but she didn't really have a choice, not if she wanted to pretend that there was no reason to be nerves about a certain someone. She walked to the largest room in the stronghold slowly, she didn't really want to go there but she felt like she had to somehow show that last night was no longer something she was willing to remember, it was gone now, and never would she think about it again. With her mind now made, she quickened her pace wanting to get it over with as soon as possible. She turned a corner fast not really looking where she was going.

Before she knew what hit her, literally, she was on the ground, “Itai,” was all that she could think of to say. She looked up to see who it was that she had run into. Her eyes grew big, wonderful just the person I wanted to see, she thought sarcastically.

Tasuki smirked at her “I was wondren when you'd get up.” She glared at him as she got up and walked past him.

He was left in the hall wearing a confused expression. What's wrong with `er, and why did she glare at me? What the hell did I do to `er? “Dam woman,” he muttered under his breath as he also got up and walked to get his breakfast.

For the rest of the day Izumi didn't even look at him. She did what she usually did, trained with the other bandits. She ended up knocking most of them to there asses at least once. She stayed out there all day not bothering to take a brake for lunch. Most of the younger bandits stayed out with her, she was giving them pointers while fighting her.

It was a few hours before dinner when she noticed a commotion of some sort going on, it was about some bandits that had just come out of the woods. She decided to go see what was going on. With a wave to the bandits she had been working with she dashed off. Something just didn't quite feel right to her, it wasn't really wrong ether, it just was different.

When she got there she saw that the bandits had a strange looking girl on one of there backs. She had on odd clothing, it was like nothing Izumi had ever seen before. Then Kouji and Tasuki arrived.

“We found `er just liyin' in the forest. She don' look hurt but, we didn' check under her cloths,” the one with holding the girl said.

Kouji looked at Tasuki for a moment before telling them what to do. “Take `er inside to one of the empty rooms.”

“Maybe I should be the one to check her for wounds,” said Izumi knowing that she would hate to have any of these guys check her for wounds under her cloths when she was unconscious.

Kouji just stopped for a moment then nodded “yea tha's probably a good idea.”

Izumi followed them inside of the stronghold, they ended up taking the girl to the room that was right beside Izumi's. She walked in and looked at the girl. She looked like she might be a little younger then Izumi. She had dark brown hair that was slightly curly, just enough to make her hair seem frizzy. The girl was definitely breathing that was for sure and she didn't seem to be in any pain. Izumi was about to start taking off the girls shirt to see if she was injured, when she looked around the room. She had failed to notice that Tasuki and Kouji were both still in the room.

“Are you guys gonna' leave or do I have ta' throw ya' out?” Her face told them that if she needed to she had no problem kicking there asses just for this. They both scrambled out of the room as fast as they could.

“There much better,” said Izumi to her self. She turned to the girl on the bed. First she looked under the girl's shirt and pants. There wasn't a mark on the girl a few small scrapes but, not a thing that might cause her to pass out. Is it possible that she's just asleep? If so she must be a deep sleeper. Right after finishing her thought the girl began to stir.

The girl looked at her with confusion showing in her amber eyes. Hay, her eyes look just like Tasuki's, She mentally noted.

“Where am I?” asked the girl rather groggily.

First I would like to thank every one that reviewed my story, you guys are the reason that I end up finishing my chapters.

Thank you very, very much:

Queen of Monkey Magic: yea that is pretty silly to give you a class where you don't have to do much and then give you internet access

Kristall: I do use spell check I promise (my spell check doesn't really like your name), and yea Kouji has fallen for her just not in a romantic kind of way (more like he thinks of her as a very close friend or sister), and as you see in this chapter Tasuki may be starting to fall for her, and yea I wish I was that lucky too (starts day dreaming)

caspercat22: I'm glad you liked it, I tend to think that things made by me aren't all that good compared to stuff made by other people, and yea it is nice to see a woman in the stronghold

Expi00962: hmm… I never thought of that and I went back and tried to fix the separations they got erased when I submitted them so I had to fix that sorry about the spelling I unfortunately seem to have a talent for misspelling things in a way that my spell check can't catch… go figure

TeenAnimeLover: thanks for just taking a look at it that is good enough for me and I have tried to fix the spacing on this one. Is it better??

Author's Note: Well I finally finished this chapter (it seemed like it took forever). It may be a little while until the next chapter. I have to make sure I have my info correct on some spellings of things in the world of the book and some other stuff. I really wish I owned all of the manga that would help me soooo much right now (I only have #3) I am sorry to all of the readers out there and if you think you can help pleas don't be afraid to try. Well that's all for now. Your strange authoress, Emily.

P.S. If you have bothered to read this story, then please bother to review I realize it may not seem like it helps any but believe me if there where no reviews encouraging me my story would never get done.
