Chapter Seven… The new member of Kougaijis

< We switch from The Sanzo-Ikkoku to somewhere in a forest far to the west >

“You're such annoying stubborn bastards!”

“We'll teach you you're place you evil youkai!”

“Geez! First off I'm not evil second off… what do you have against demons?”

“KILL THE DEMON!”

“I take it we can't work this out”

“DEATH TO YOUKAI!”

“You guys are so racist. Fine then… You should know you're fighting against a master of alchemy and transmutation! Suzaku! Come to my aid!”

Out of the clear blue clouds emerged a phoenix of fire. It smothered the bounty hunters in smoldering hot flames… they're ashes were incinerated. Once the Phoenix vanished the woman fell to her knees.

“Damn, I used to much energy… that sucks… I have to get out of here before the hunters friends show up…”

She pushed herself to her feet and headed deeper into the woods. She had no energy left in her, whenever she summoned one of the seven gods she lost almost all of her powers for about five hours. Her long silver white hair rustled in the wind as she stumbled and tripped over roots and branches. She had received a bad wound and that was holding her back from being able to run faster. She clenched the gash at her side that bleeding badly.

“Damn! They're catching up! Shit!”

She collided into something roughly and fell backwards to the ground.

“Shit…”

“Are you okay?”

She opened her eyes to find a young male demon with long red hair and gray eyes. With him was another male youkai except he was taller and larger shoulder span he had brown short spiky hair, a female youkai with purple hair in two ponies and a young female youkai with bright orange hair and green eyes.

“Who-“

“THERE SHE IS! LET'S GET HER!”

“SHIT! SORRY BUT I HAVE TO RUN!”

As she went to run around them the taller male grabbed the back of her collar. He smiled at her.

“Kou can handle this don't worry about it. The names Dokugakuji”

“Uhhhhh… Amiraya…”

“Pleased to meet you. So what are they after you for?”

“ Some asshole put a tag on my head for a wanted reward, preferably they want me dead because I cost the guy his enterprise.”

“Well don't worry about it… Kougaiji can handle this. They won't bother you anymore.”

“That wound looks awful let me take a look at it.”

“Uhhhhh… okay sure.”

“I'm an apothecary so I know what I'm doing.”

There was a bright blue glow at where her hand was covering the gash and a tingling sensation and the pain was gone.

“Holy-! …That's one damn useful trick, how did you do that?”

“Oh it'll take forever to explain it.”

“I have all the time in the world, I have nothing better to do and nowhere else to go… I'm an alchemist and talented in transmutation and summoning the seven gods.”

“Say what?”

“I can summon the seven gods”

“You mean?”

“Suzaku Byakko Seiryu Genbu… etc etc etc? Yes.”

“Holy shit! That must have taken years to learn!”

“Can we continue this lovely conversation somewhere else? I'm not in the mood to hang around this place…”

“Kougaiji-sama. That was fast”

“They were weak, I picked off one guy and they all turned tail and ran.”

“Wimps…”

“Indeed…”

“Kou… I think that it would be a good idea to have her join us.”

“SAY WHAT? NO! No No NO! We can't just allow every youkai we help join us”

“Why not? She is rather powerful. She could be a great comrade. Besides, would it hurt to help her out?”

“…”

“Come on Onni-chan! Quit being boring!”

“I am not being boring I'm just being logical… Seeing how you guys won't leave me alone if I don't… fine.”

“Better Ally then enemy if you know what I mean”

“Huh… what just happened here?”

“You said you had all the time in the world… so we've integrated you into our team.”

“Uhhhhh… okay… cool. Is that a good thing?”

“Let's go back to the palace to give introductions.”

“Sure Kou. Whatever you say”

Amiraya followed them in confusion. She had no clue who these people were yet they were so open to her almost automatically. She had never been so trusted by someone. She didn't even know their names and they brought her in with such warmth that it was almost impossible to exist. She was dreaming and any minute now she would wake up. She felt a hand on her shoulder, which brought her out of her daze.

“Hey relax, we're not gonna bite your head off.”

“I know that… it's just… who exactly are you guys… I've never seen you or heard of you before…”

“You've never heard of Kougaiji or Gyumaoh?”

“Nope… well I was a slave for most of my life so… I don't all that much”

“YOU WERE A SLAVE!”

“Yup. To humans… one day I thought to myself that it was all a load of bull crap and left”

“I can't believe youkai slavery still exists”

“Well believe buster… I had a twin sister who ran off and left me with our sick mother who passed away three days after she left that self-centered bitch”

“Geez! You had it rough!”

“ You could say that and be safe”

“Che yeah!”

“How did you keep your sanity”?

“That's my own little secret”

“… Okay”

“I actually had a reason I came out this way as well…Do you mind if I go look for something just for a second”

“…What?”

“Ohhhh you'll see”

She smiled mischievously at them and then vanished into the darker part of the woods.

“I don't get that girl…”

“Geez, who would of thought they still had youkai slavery? That was made illegal ten years ago.”

“Yeah…”

She brushed quietly through the bushes as she came upon her destination. There in the middle of the darkest part of the woods was a mythological safe haven for a rare breed of youkai. They looked like fairies and were small enough to sit in your palm. The problem was that they're type was on the brink of extinction, only seven all together left. She was determined to find a way to help them. All she needed was to find them. She entered a clearing in the middle.

“Hello! Are you here?”

Her voice echoed and died, as there was no response she tried a couple times more before flopping down on the ground to sit.

“Damn- I was sure there was at least one or two here.”

She felt something tugging lightly on the back of her hair, she turned to see a little fairy girl that was no longer then the distance from her middle finger to her wrist. She didn't look all that happy.

“What do you want from us, the extinction of our kind? Your kind keep rampaging into here and destroying all of our habitat and food sources, we have nothing left yet you are so determined to torture my people!”

Amiraya put her hands up to settle the fairy-youkai down from her rant. She smiled kindly

“I didn't come to destroy anything of the sort. I came to help you out.”

“How could YOU help us?”

“First off I need to know a couple of things and in exchange I want just one thing”

Two hours later

 

“A second she says! A second! Where the hell did she go!”

“Gomen! I got a little lost.”

“What the hell is that thing?”

She smiled and childishly pointed at the creature that sat on her shoulder. It looked like a cat with angel wings. It let out a mew and licked its paw and began to clean its face.

“It's called a Kariban and it's an endangered breed that lives peacefully alongside with the fairy type youkai. You've heard of them haven't you?”

“…Not really… but whatever. Are you done here?”

“Yup!”

Lirin smiled and patted the cat it purred and rubbed it's head against her hand.

“What's her name?”

“I don't know yet…”

“How about Harukami?”

“…Isn't that a that a type of food?”

“Yup yup!”

“…Sure. Why not? Harukami it is.”

It let out what sounded like a cross between a chirp and a mew.

“I guess she likes it.”

Amiraya laughed happily with Lirin.

“I'm Lirin! Kou-niichan's little sister.”

“Pleased to meet you Lirin. I've come to the conclusion that you are Kougaiji-sama?”

“Yeah.”

“I'm Yaone.”

“Thank you for all your help. I was in a right bit of trouble there.”

“What the hell happened?”

“I kind of got into some stupid shit and next thing I know I have a huge bounty on my head.”

“Well you don't have to worry cause this is the last place they'll manage to get into.”

“Cool thanks a whole bunch I owe you major league big time.”

“Don't worry about it. It was nothing.”

“Still thank you. Oh! And thank you Dokugakuji-san and Yaone-san. For your help as well.”

“It was nothing”

Harukami let out a chirp and flew around in figure eights in the air. Till it crashed into a wall. It fell to the floor with a thud. They laughed as she sat up and shook its head and looked around in confusion. Amiraya scooped the little creature into her arms and cuddled it. Dokugakuji stared at her in wonder she was something else. Not like any women he had ever met before. She was different. She smiled at them such a warm smile it smothered the darkness that filled that castle.

“Well let's get some rest. We'll deal with what we're going to do about The Sanzo gang later.”

“Hai!”

“Yaone can you help her find a room to stay?”

“Yes Lord Kougaiji.”

 

…

 

“So… this sure is awkward… I try to go find Harukami and I manage to somehow get lost in the middle of the night… just great! Damn it all”

She wandered through the empty halls, this was a larger castle then she had thought. So far she had run into a freaky gross psycho with a bunny rabbit teddy bear. It was really beginning to creep her out. It was the middle of the night who the hell would be up in the middle of the night. Just as that thought crossed her mind she found herself in the presence of another. Dokugakuji sat in front of a bay window, his features bathed in the moonlight. At first she couldn't help but stare at him in amazement, but slowly she came back to reality and let out a soft cough to let him know she had joined him. He was startled at first but managed to relax when he realized it was just her. She smiled shyly.

“Uhhhhh… sorry `bout barging in on you. I kinda got a little- lot lost trying to find my way back to my room. Don't think you could help me could you?”

He smiled at her a friendly smiled and grabbed a white shirt to throw on and got up to help her.

“Heh, it's easy to get lost in a place as big as this. It's smarter to just stay in one place once night comes around because there are scarier things here other then us youkai.”

“If you're referring to bunny boy… I met him and he freaked the shit out of me. He's just-just-just so creepy!”

“You could say that again. There are three others but one of which you should keep away from because she would kill you if she saw you cause she's a heartless bitch. She's called Gyukomen Koushi and she's the leader of this little humble abode. She's the essence of evil.”

“Yikes, that bad huh?”

“Let's just say, she once tried to brainwash Kou and luckily was unsuccessful with it. They tried to do shit to Lirin and Kou beat the crap out of them. He's very protective of Lirin and all of us.”

“That's cool. Geez I must have wandered a far ways away”

“Nearly half way across the castle”

“Jesus! That far! I wasn't even paying any attention I just… well… let my legs lead me…”

“Well they lead you rather astray. Heh, so why are you up?”

“Couldn't sleep.”

“Same.”

“Heh, bad memories?”

“You could say that”

“What happened?”

“My mother went insane during the last month of her life and said nasty things to me, she forgot everything and started saying really horrible things such as I'll burn in hell and other stuff. Then she committed suicide, you know it's not fun to have your own mother insulting you.”

“Yeah, I had to kill my own mother to save my half brother. He is still one little conceited bastard.”

“You've seen him recently?”

“Yeah you could say so. You're sister?”

“Not since fifteen years ago.”

“Oh that sucks yeah. He and I still don't get along that well.”

“Sorry about that. Personally I wouldn't mind kicking my sisters ass.”

“Well that's sweet of you”

“I utterly despise her for leaving me alone to suffer.”

“Here you go”

“It was nice talking to you Dokugaku-san”

“Indeed I enjoyed talking to you all the same. I shall see you tomorrow morning.”

“Yes. Thanks yet again for everything.”

“Anytime”

She smiled sweetly at him as she closed her door and placed Harukami on the floor near her bed. She glared at the creature that had a mischievous look in her eye.

“You planned that all along”

“What It's not my fault you have the hots for each other”

“You are such a conniving little!”

“I know you love me”

“I'm tempted to deep-fry you and serve you with stir fried vegetables.”

“Don't blame the messenger”

“Messenger of what?”

“Love”

“YOU LITTLE!”

Suddenly she heard a knock on her door. It was Dokugakuji.

“Are you okay? I heard some shouting.”

“Sorry `bout that I stubbed my toe and it hurt.”

“Well, be careful”

“Sure thing thanks!”

She glared and cracked her knuckles and proceeded to tie the cat creature up and lock her in the closet with a silencing spell.

“Now to get some well deserved sleep”

She laid down to get the sleep she had been missing out on.

“HEY!”

Amiraya sat up in shock as she was knocked out of bed by a ball of energy with orange hair. Lirin smiled happily at her, her eyes sparkling.

“Get up! We're gonna have so much fun!”

She smiled back at the girl

“Indeed. Now can I get dressed?”

“Kay.”

Lirin sat there on the table staring at her with a smile.

“Alone?”

“OH! Gottcha! I'll go see if breakfast is ready yet.”

“Good idea”

“KAY KAY!”

Lirin leapt out of the room. Amiraya groaned and looked at her clock… She had gotten around six hours of sleep tops. She used to sleep in until eleven and stay up till three. Her life had officially been thrown upside down. She was in a living hell; she had a headache and just wanted to sleep. She flopped back into bed and curled up asleep. A half an hour later Yaone entered to see if she was ready yet.

“Are you okay Ami-chan?”

“I'm tired and have a headache I think I'll grab a few more hours of sleep.”

“Let me see if you have a temperature”

Amiraya didn't even bother arguing at all she just let the fellow demon give her assessment.

“Well you indeed have a fairly decent fever and I'm not surprised. I'll bring you some medicine and breakfast and you stay in bed. Kougaiji-san and Dokugaku-kun are out taking care of some business right now they'll be back soon. Lirin is with them as well since she wouldn't stop bothering them. You'll have peace and quiet.”

“Arigato Yaone-san”

“Anytime. Now get some sleep.”

“Hai…”

Amiraya slipped into silent dreams that echoed with pain and horror and sadness. Where she was even running from her own shadows among all else. Her demons of her past haunting her mind, She felt herself slipping farther and farther away into a realm of no return until she was suddenly dragged back to the world of the living with a gasp of air. Her eyes darted around the room scanning everything and rested upon a friendly sight of that brown haired demon sitting at her side in her chair his eyes closed in slumber. His arms crossed as if guarding her. She smiled softly until Harukami leapt at her licked her face and mewled in happiness. Dokugakuji's eyes snapped open immediately at the sound of the creature and gazed over at her. She smiled at him and he smiled back.

“Welcome back to the world of the living.”

“What happened?”

“You're fever sent you into a critical state, we lost you for a second but Yaone managed to work her wonders and drag your stubborn spirit back to us.”

“Arigato. I'm sorry if I worried you but you need not worry upon my count I just cause others trouble.”

“Not yet, It turns out my brother has hooked up with some chick with blonde hair. For once he seems dedicated to this girl. Not just floundering around. She's called Miriyai”

Amiraya's eyes open wide, her hands clenched thee blankets so hard that her knuckles were white.

“Did you say… Miriyai?”

“Yeah… why what's up?”

“How long was I out?”

“Almost a week”

“Shit. When did you see her?”

“Why does it matter?”

“Cause I swore that if I ever found her again I would kill her.”

“Your sister huh?”

“Yeah. After she dies I can rest at ease. Then I'll take my leave of this earth”

“You're gonna commit suicide!”

“That's the plan”

He glared at her angrily

“Don't be an idiot you fool!”

“Why? What does it matter to you?”

“Damn it! What about those that you leave behind after you leave? What about those that care? Will you leave them to suffer?”

“I don't have anyone that cares so much that they would cry if I died”

“YES! YOU DO!”

She starred at him in amazement as he took a deep breath,

“Are you insane? What about us? You think that those past six weeks meant nothing to us? You're a friend and a comrade and we will miss you especially me you damn dunce!”

Are you-“

“Telling you I love you… I don't know I just know I care about you… I don't know if it's called love but if you must call it that… then yes…”

She blushed and looked down at her hands. He let out a deep sigh.

“Geez now I feel weird”

“I-I- gomen nasai Doku-kun!”

“Why? You didn't do anything wrong”

“I…I…”

Tears streamed down her cheeks

“I'm so confused”

He placed a hand on her shoulder and she gazed at him with watery eyes before clinging to him and crying. She was happy and sad and upset and confused and just all over the place. He held her as she sobbed all her pain away. His embrace was comforting and warm. She found it relaxing to be simply held. He just admitted his love for her. She just wanted to tell him that she felt the same. Except everyone she ever loved left her or died because of her and she couldn't stand any more pain.

“I-I-I loose anyone I truly care about because of me. I'm a walking curse. Everyone dies. I can't control it. I can't stop it. It just just just happens and I don't know what to do anymore Dokugakuji”

“Calm down… I'm not one to die easily, so I won't be leaving you any time soon. I'll never leave you alone.”

“I-I …aishiteru yo”

“You know what you remind me of?”

“What?”

“A stray dog”

“Is that a good thing?”

“Yeah. You have all the freedom in the world yet you cling to what pains you in life. All you need is a good companion or two or three to help guide you through life. You've got us.”

He kissed her brow gently and held her to him it was such a perfect moment… which of course was ruined by Lirins sudden appearance shortly followed by Yaone. The two stared at them. The moment was as awkward as it could get.

“It's not what it looks like! You see she fell off the bed and I caught her and…”

Yaone raised an eyebrow and smirked

“Do you honestly believe I'm that stupid? I knew you two were going to end up together since the very beginning.”

“Uhhhh…”

“If that wasn't awkward and random I don't know what is.”

“MEATBUN!”

“…how about that?”

“Kay so I was wrong.”

The four laughed openly together till they were in tears. Kougaiji entered shortly and gave them a look of confusion.

“What the hell is going on here?”

“Do you want to know the truth or just part of the story?”

“Will the truth scare the shit out of me?”

“You'll find it rather shocking”

“Sure why not”

Yaone whispered something in his ear and his eyes went wide

“Say WHAT? No freaking way?! You've gottah be kidding me right? You two are as opposite as it can get! Besides it's only been six weeks and it's-“

“Drop it Kou”

“But-“

“We're not going anywhere. We're still loyal to you a hundred percent”

“I know but…”

He let out a deep sigh

“Fine whatever. Just get ready all of you. We have a visit to pay the Sanzo party”

“Looks like you'll get to see you're sister sooner then later.”

“I can't what”

She said sarcastically

Isn't it just too funny that both brothers fall in love with a girl that just so happens to also have a sister? That just so happens to be the sister of the brothers' boyfriend?
