~One day later~

It would have been impossible to identify the tall, dashing figure in uniform as being one and the same as the picture of debauchery that had picked up a strange man at a bar less than 48 hours ago.

However Gojyo took his duties very seriously and his appearance cemented that notion. His uniform was spotless, the medals and oak leaf that told of his rank of Lieutenant-Colonel gleamed and his wild hair had been tamed and tucked neatly under his cap.

His footsteps on the linoleum made a sharp staccato as he searched for the room where he was going to receive his new orders. Stopping at a nondescript brown door, he frowned momentarily before glancing down at the paper he was holding.

`Well this is the place,' he muttered under his breath as he reached for the doorknob. Before his hand could even touch it however, the door suddenly flew open colliding into him and knocking him back a step.

`Ouch! What the hell?!' he cursed nursing his bruised hand.

`Oops, sorry about that,' a cheeky voice apologized to him.

Looking down slightly, Gojyo found himself staring at a pair of remarkably wide golden brown eyes that were gazing at him quizzically. Gold eyes that belonged to a rather good-looking boy with a shock of messy brown hair that seemed to defy gravity standing straight up from his head.

`Sorry isn't going to cut it,' he snapped, `why don't you watch where your going clumsy ape.'

Those eyes immediately narrowed.

`Don't call me that! My name is Goku. Son Goku!'

`Ape is good enough. Don't you know how to show respect to an officer?'

`We're the same rank! See.' Goku proudly tapped the silver oak leaf on his sleeve. Gojyo cocked his eyebrow in surprise. The way it shone told Gojyo that Goku hadn't had it for very long.

`Ever heard of seniority dumbass ape,' Gojyo sneered.

`Don't call me ape you red headed cockroach!' Goku retorted.

Gojyo blinked.

`What is this feeling of dejavu? Why do I feel like I've done this before?'

Even so, Gojyo wasn't going to let that comment pass him by and was working himself up for a really snide reply when a polite voice from behind made them jump.

`Ano…'

They turned simultaneously and came face to face with the owner of the voice, who turned out to be an extremely handsome young man. His dark brown hair was short and neat and he possessed a pair of intelligent forest green eyes that peered out from behind wire-rimmed glasses.

`May I introduce myself.' He bowed lightly. `I am Cho Hakkai.'

`Cho Hakkai…why does that name sound so familiar?' Gojyo thought to himself. Yet he could have sworn they had never met before. But there was something eerily familiar about him. About the way he moved, the sincerity of his smile. Like with Sanzo he felt an almost instantaneous attraction towards Hakkai, but these feelings were less tempestuous.

Before he could say anything else though, all three of them were ushered into the room.

There were already two people inside, one of them Gojyo recognized as the commanding officer of this division, General Bosatsu. He couldn't see the other as his back was to him; all he could see was that he had blonde hair.

Blonde hair?

Gojyo's heart almost stopped as the man slowly turned around. There in front of the room was the man that Gojyo had just passionately fucked just a couple of days ago.

`Gentlemen,' the voice of General Bosatsu filled the room. `Welcome to your mission briefing. Since all of you have never met before, could you please stand up and give out your name, rank and specialty.'

The handsome brunette chose to go first.

`Cho Hakkai. Lieutenant-Colonel. Specialty: medical and intelligence. I am also in charge of transport.'

Gojyo cleared his throat and stood up.

`Sha Gojyo. Lieutenant-Colonel. Specialty: ground tactics and operations.'

Goku bounced up at his turn.

`Son Goku. Lieutenant-Colonel. Specialty: Hand to hand combat.'

`Genjo Sanzo,' his deep voice did not shake, did not falter as he looked at all of them, `Colonel. Specialty: covert operations and firearms.'

`And he is the person in charge of this mission,' General Bosatsu added.

At the announcement Gojyo's heart sank to the bottom of his polished shoes.

`Oh fucking great, not only is he a Colonel, he's my superior too. I wonder what's he going to do first. Torture me and then have me court-martialed….. or court-martial me first THEN proceed to torture my sorry ass…'

`I have been told that you three are the best at what you do,' Sanzo's deep voice took on a commanding tone, `good because you'll need every bit of your skill to handle this mission.'

In cool, clipped tones Sanzo outlined the point of their mission. To stop a terrorist known only as the Demon Ox and his organization from rising. To do that, they would have to travel west. Sanzo also emphasized over and over again the dangers of the mission, how it wasn't going to end anytime soon and how it was not going to be a picnic.

However Gojyo barely heard anything. All he could feel was his own personal sword of Damocles hanging over his head and getting closer as the minutes ticked by.

`The code name for this mission will be "Journey West", understood?' Sanzo didn't even wait for their reply before he began to gather his papers. `Good, go get kitted, we leave in two hours.'

They all turned to leave but before Gojyo could make his escape a command from Sanzo stopped him.

`Lieutenant-Colonel Gojyo, wait for a moment.'

Gojyo froze and cursed his luck. He turned and foud himself staring into a pair of cold, authoritative violet eyes that had been so full of passion and feeling only a few hours before.

For a few minutes, Sanzo just stood there as still as a statue. His mouth suddenly curved into an evil smile that was also surprisingly seductive. Gojyo braced himself for the worst.

However nothing could have prepared him for what happened next. Sanzo simply put his hand on his shoulder and whispered into his ear.

`You owe me a shirt soldier,' he breathed. He then dropped his hand and left.

At first Gojyo was so stunned he couldn't move. He spun around and just stared at Sanzo's retreating figure. But soon a wry smile spread across his face as it dawned on him the game that Sanzo wanted to play. And he had just made the first move.

`Well well, perhaps there are some things in life worth living for after all,' he chuckled softly to himself.
