Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel, Different Batman
by Dragon'night Wolfday
An Alternate Universe story about the Saiyuki characters. Lots of changes in names, only slight
changes in personalities. There will be sex in this one. Lemons upon lemons after a while. There
will be both homosexual and heterosexual (to my everlasting horror) sex in here. All heterosexual
sections will be written by a friend (no offense, ladies, but I won't write what I don't do), whom
will be named when the time comes. I know next to nothing about Saiyuki so I had to get some
details from Dan and Olivia. Go ahead and review it and comment. I am more than happy to hear what
you have to say. If you find grammar problems, please blame my boyfriend, as he's the one in charge
of corrections (among other things *smirk*).
As my beloved Wolf would say: Cheers,
Dragon
"Enter."
The youthful brown haired, green-eyed man smiled as the new guy entered his office. He took in the
easygoing smile and casual air with an assessing eye.
"Lieutenant Shawn? Welcome to the 22nd precinct. I'm Captain Valentine Cho."
"Please, call me either Cat or Sha, sir. I can't stand being formal all the time."
"Sha?"
"We had another Shawn at my old precinct so I was Sha."
"I see. Well, unofficially I'm Val. Officially I'm Captain Cho or That Bastard."
They exchanged a grin.
"You've been assigned a partner and we have a desk ready for you. I just need to you sign these and
we can get things going."
"No problem. Glad to be here. I hear you get a little more excitement than down at the 14th." Sha
replied.
"Oh, I'm sure you'll have your hands full." Cho assured.
"Great. I could use a little action." Sha said with an easy grin.
Cho blinked and briefly wondered if that was innuendo but then decided that Sha was too much of a
playboy to have directed that comment at him. He watched as Sha signed the papers.
"Excuse me a second." Cho apologized as he picked up the phone and pressed a button. "Trapper, is
Genjo around? No? Okay, get in here then."
Very quickly a small, stocky man entered the room. He had a ready smile.
"What's up, Captain?" he asked.
"This is Lieutenant Cat Shawn, he's going to be Genjo's partner. Sha, this is John Trapper, my
semi-official brownnoser."
"I'm good at my job." Trapper said cheerfully. "Come on, I'll take you to your desk."
Sha nodded at Cho and followed Trapper out. The other officers gave him polite, curious nods.
Trapper stopped at a pair of desks, one was cleared of all space and one had neatly stacked papers
on it.
"This is your desk and that's your partner's," he informed.
"Thanks.' Sha said.
"Hey! Is that Genjo's new partner?" someone called out.
"Yeah." Trapper replied.
"Kiss him or kill him?"
Trapper eyed Sha carefully. "Kiss him," he said finally.
Sha gazed at Trapper blankly.
"We always bet on whether the new guy befriends his partner or not. 'Kiss him or kill him' is what
we call it." Trapper explained.
"Ah, well, I'm so charming everyone wants to kiss me." Sha replied as he sank down into his chair
and made himself comfortable.
Trapper grinned. "Well, aren't we self-assured," he teased.
"Always." Sha replied with an easy grin. "That's how you gotta live, man."
"Are you sure you're a cop?" Trapper asked.
"Yeah, I like to live dangerously."
Trapper shook his head. "You're working with the right partner then."
"Why do you say that?"
"Well, Genjo's just a little-"
"Shh, heads up."
Trapper shut up and glanced around nervously. "Ah, hey Genjo," he said with slightly forced
cheeriness. "Got your new partner here."
Sha's eyes widened as Trapper moved out of the way. Striding confidently towards them was a
gorgeous blond. The short hair was slightly longish around the neck, framing a breathtaking face.
Mesmerizing purple eyes framed by thick lashes snagged one's attention. The lips were a little too
thin and the chin was a little too strong, but that was okay. The body was also a little thin under
the loose blue shirt but that was all right as well. The legs were long and thin and encased in
formfitting black jeans. Sha grinned as he stood up slowly. He hadn't expected a woman but damn
was he glad he got her. She looked like a tough one, but he was sure she'd melt under the sheets.
They all did after a few nights with the Cat.
"Cat Shawn, this is Rahiti Genjo."
"Hey there." Sha said with one of his charming smiles. "Feel free to call me Cat."
He got a hard look and a snort. "Call me Genjo," came a deep voice.
Sha's smile faltered slightly as he realized his error. But then again, who wouldn't, he reasoned
to himself. Just because Genjo was a guy, he wouldn't begrudge him a first reaction. After all,
Sha knew he turned heads too.
Genjo was giving him an assessing look. Sha knew what he saw, a tall, lanky man with long red hair,
exotic red eyes, and dashing good looks. Sha wasn't conceited; he just knew what he was.
Genjo frowned and then sat down at his desk. He pulled out a file from the pile and tossed it to
Sha.
"This is the current case," he said shortly. "Read it fast because we've got a stakeout at seven.
If you can't make it, tell me now."
"I'll have to cancel my dates for tonight." Sha said dryly. "But I think I can squeeze it in."
He gave Genjo a lazy grin but was ignored. He was a little put off by being ignored but he knew
that it would just be a matter of time before Genjo warmed up to him. No one could resist the
Cat's charm, after all. He opened the folder and began reading the details.
Sha arrived at the warehouse to find Genjo already there.
"I brought popcorn, I hope you brought the porn." Sha joked.
Genjo gave him an unfathomable look and turned back to the binoculars.
"A deck of cards?" Sha tried.
"We're here to watch."
"Well, since you're so good at it, I'll let you keep watching while I sit here and look pretty."
Sha said, easing into a chair next to Genjo.
"Why bother." Genjo muttered.
"You never know when a pretty lady will come around." Sha replied breezily.
"There will only be three people in this room tonight." Genjo informed.
"Who's the third?" Sha asked curiously.
"Your ego." Genjo replied.
Sha's eyes widened in surprise and then he grinned. "You can joke after all," he realized.
"Who said I was joking?" Genjo retorted.
Sha's eyes narrowed slightly. "Do you have a problem with me?" he demanded, getting irritated with
Genjo's attitude.
"I don't have anything with you." Genjo said.
"Ah, could that be the problem, then." Sha pondered to himself. "We need to work well together
before you'll treat me with respect."
Genjo made a noise. Sha turned to glare at Genjo and paused as Genjo held up a hand for silence.
"Got something," he said. "Looks like the woman."
"Is she changing?" Sha asked, turning his attention to the window.
"No."
Genjo handed him a pair of spare binoculars and he took a peek. The binoculars weren't as good as
Genjo's, as they were lacking night vision capacity, but Sha could make out the shadowy forms.
"What are they saying?" he asked.
Genjo turned up the volume. Sha listened and then sighed at the predictability of criminal
conversation.
"You think they'd come up with new lines," he said. "Gah, I feel like I'm watching a bad movie."
Genjo didn't comment but Sha could have sworn he saw a tic at the corner of Genjo's mouth. Sha
grinned, he knew he could make anyone like him.
"They're on the move." Genjo said.
"Let's go then." Sha replied.
The two darted out of the room and ran down the stairs. Bursting out the door, they hid against
the corner of the building before peeking out. The tall man and the woman were talking leisurely,
looking as if they were ready to part ways.
"I'll take the man." Sha said.
Genjo gave him an appraising look and snorted. He strolled out towards the suspects. They froze at
the sight of Genjo and Sha coming towards them.
"Hey, gorgeous, got a light?" Sha asked calmly.
The woman's lips quirked upwards involuntarily at that. "No," she said, somewhat regretfully.
Her companion looked more nervous then relaxed at Sha's offhand tone.
"No? Pity." Sha said, looking regretful. "Can you tell us how far we are from the Demons'
nightclub?"
"I don't know that club," the woman replied.
"You sure? It's this big club with flashing green lights and a picture of a sultry she-demon."
"I'm sure," the woman was looking a little bored now.
"Do you know?" Sha tried for the man.
The man started and then shook his head. He was looking a little too nervous...like he wasn't
buying Sha's act. Genjo sighed and pulled his shirt up to reveal the badge on his belt.
"Police, sir, please put your hands up," he said.
Predictably, the man bolted. The woman gave a shriek and bolted the other way.
"Get the woman." Genjo snarled.
He ran off after the tall man. Sha darted after the woman. He knocked her down easily and pulled
her up to handcuff her before she could react. He looked the other way and saw Genjo trip the
taller man and handcuff him with ease. Sha leisurely dragged the woman towards Genjo and the man.
"Well, that was easy enough." Sha commented.
Genjo snorted. He pulled out his walkie-talkie and radioed for the local unit to come in. A sudden
shot rang out. Sha reached out and shoved both suspects to the ground while Genjo ducked and drew
out his gun, scanning the area. Another shot rang out and Genjo fired back, pinpointing the source
with eerie accuracy. There was a startled cry and the sound of running.
"Watch them." Genjo ordered as he sprinted off after the shooter.
Sha watched in admiration as Genjo easily chased down the shooter. He hadn't seen anyone run that
fast before. Not any cop anyway. Genjo bowled into the shooter, knocking them both to the ground.
As Sha watched, the tall man next to him tried to make a break for it. Without taking his gaze
away from Genjo, Sha elbowed the man in the back.
"Stay down," he ordered.
Genjo raised an eyebrow at the display. "Get them up," he said. "Let's get out of the alley."
"Whatever you say." Sha agreed breezily, hauling the man and the woman up easily.
He followed Genjo out into the open street. They waited for the squad car. Sha was just starting to
feel the itch for a cigarette when it arrived. Two young cops jumped out and wrestled their
captives into the car. One of them even saluted Genjo before they drove off. Sha snorted at their
youth.
"What is this, the army?" he asked himself.
"Some of them did a brief stint in the army." Genjo said. "They couldn't cut it so they left."
Sha glanced over at Genjo. "How do you know that?" he asked.
"Some of them were under my command." Genjo replied.
"Shit, you were in the army? What were you? Marines? Green beret?" Sha commented, feeling a brief
moment of pity for Genjo. Being a pretty boy in the army caused all kinds of problems.
"Yeah." Genjo replied vaguely.
"Why'd you leave then?" Sha asked. "Wait, let me guess...too many fights with your superior
officers?"
Genjo gave Sha a sidelong, calculating look and Sha grinned, knowing he had hit it on the button.
"You can call me Sanzo." Genjo said abruptly.
Sha blinked but recovered easily enough. "Yeah? And what are you going to call me then?" he asked,
guessing he wouldn't have a choice in the matter.
"Gojyo."
The end of chapter 1
Wow, no sex in this one! So far that is. We'll have to see how the rest of it turns out. But I
assure you, there will be sex after a while. The next chapter probably won't be up for a little
while so please bear it. And if you don't like the story, tough. I couldn't care less.
I made a minor adjustment: I can't see Sanzo smoking in this one.
