Gensomaden Saiyuki Fan Fiction ❯ The Story Of Tanpa ❯ Chapter 1
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
This story is about a lesser-known Gaiden character. She usually preferred to stay in the background due to her golden eyes, so not many even knew her. Out of those who did, only four liked her, no, loved her. This is the story about Tenpou’s younger sister…
The Story Of Tanpa
Tenpou, a three-year-old at the time, wished to see his younger sister who’d just been born. “Daddy, can I see her?” He was hoisted onto his father’s shoulders. He saw his mother holding a tiny baby girl. “My sister?” She must be! “What’s her name?” The name he heard was Tanpa.Little Tanpa opened her eyes for the first time. Gasps of shock and disgust erupted.
Tenpou might’ve been really young, but he could tell how everybody there felt about his sister. He could see they hated her because she had golden eyes. He didn’t care though, she was his little sister.
As Tenpou and Tanpa grew up, things weren’t easy for Tanpa. He was always by her side to protect her from everybody. Adult men would knock Tanpa to the ground then tell her to watch where she was going. Tanpa, being such an innocent child, would always apologise before the men walked off insulting her. The children weren’t any better. The girls ostracised her while the boys would throw rocks.
Tenpou put a bandaid on his sister’s knee after she’d been pushed down again. “You shouldn’t apologise to creeps like that. They pushed you on purpose.”
“Big brother, why doesn’t anybody like me? Even Mommy and Daddy hate me.”
“People don’t like golden eyes.”
“What about you? Do you hate me too?”
Tenpou was shocked at the question. “Of course not, Tanpa!” He pulled her into a tight hug. “I don’t care if you have golden eyes! You’re my sister and I love you.” He tightened his grip. “Tanpa, all of this must be really hard on you and I’m sorry you have to deal with it everyday. I’m trying really hard to protect you, but I can’t be there for you all the time.”
“Big brother…”
A couple of boys walked over. “Isn’t that sweet? Tenpou’s hugging the heretic,” one of them taunted.
Tenpou clenched his fists in his sister’s clothing. He gritted his teeth and narrowed his eyes sharply. “Don’t you dare call Tanpa that,” he growled in a low voice.
“Or what? What are you gonna do about it? Sic golden eyes on us? That would be good for a laugh!” the other replied.
The first boy grabbed Tanpa’s light-brown hair and broke into laughter as he roughly pulled her towards him. He then pushed her to the ground.
“Tanpa!” Tenpou exclaimed as he saw his sister hit the ground really hard. He went to help her, but kept getting pushed back.
“That’s enough!” a young boy with blonde hair yelled. “You two had better beat it right now!”
“Konzen Douji! We’re leaving now!” the boys exclaimed in fear as they ran off.
Konzen stepped over. “Are you okay now?”
Tenpou nodded before he went over to his sister. “Tanpa? Tanpa? Can you hear me? Tanpa!”
“Roll her onto her back so she can breathe.”
Tenpou did so. He gasped in shock. “Tanpa’s really hurt! But, nobody will help her.”
“I know a nurse who doesn’t isolate herself from anybody who’s different. Pick her up and I’ll take you to her.”
Tenpou gently picked up his sister. “Thank you for saving her, Konzen. My name is Ten…”
“Tenpou. I know. You defend your sister from everybody who tries to harm her.”
“You’re different. Why did you save Tanpa?”
“All people are the same to me. Now quit stalling!”
“Oh! Right.” He followed Konzen.
Tanpa slowly opened her eyes. “Where am I?”
“You’re in a first-aid station.”
“Tenpou? Is that you, big brother?”
“It’s me, Tanpa. Are you okay?”
“I’m sorry. It’s because of me you don’t have any friends.”
“No, sis, I should apologise. I couldn’t protect you this time.”
Tanpa sat up and looked at her brother. “You tried to.”
Tenpou hugged his sister. “I’m so sorry you keep getting hurt.”
“Big brother? Are you…crying?” Her brother was always so strong, it was a surprise when he’d started crying.
“Yes. I’m crying for you. People are such jerks! All they see of you are your eyes. They don’t see you like I do, they don’t see you as a person. I thought the grown-ups would know better, but they don’t! They’re worse than most of the kids.”
“Most of the kids?”
“One boy helped us today. He led me here so you could get help.”
“Where is he?”
“He’s sitting outside.”
“Can I see him?”
“Okay. I’ll go get him.” He let his sister go and went to the door. “Konzen, Tanpa wants to see you.” He and Konzen entered the room. “Tanpa, this is Konzen Douji. He’s the one who got rid of those boys.”
“So, you’re finally awake, huh? That’s good,” Konzen stated. He didn’t smile as he remarked on Tanpa’s awakening.
Tanpa smiled. “Thank you, Konzen. Those boys hurt me.”
“I know.” He left the room. “I’ll let you rest now, Tanpa.”
“Bye, Konzen,” the siblings called before they had another conversation.
Years had passed since that day. Tenpou was the field marshal of his squadron in the Heavenly army. He made a special friend in the squadron, the general named Kenren. He was still friends with Konzen and the newest in the group, a monkey named Goku. Tanpa was also friends with her brother’s companions.
While having some rice wine, Kenren spoke to Tenpou. “You know, your sister is pretty cute. You’d better keep an eye on her.”
“What exactly are you implying?”
“I’m just saying some guys may hit on her, even if she has golden eyes.”
“You wouldn’t be counting yourself, would you?”
“Of course not, she’s like a sister to me as well, and no matter how much of a troublemaker I am, I’d never do something like hitting on my ‘sister’.”
“That’s good then, because I’d have taken you down to the lower world and killed you if you even considered doing anything inappropriate with my sister.”
Tanpa was on her way to Konzen’s office to visit him and Goku. She wasn’t paying much attention and so she bumped into someone. “Oh, I’m very sorry. Please forgive me.” She looked up and her eyes widened in fear. “Li Touten! Oh, I really am sorry.”
Li smiled wickedly. “Do you really think your apology is enough to make up for bumping into me?”
“I honestly didn’t mean to do so, sir, really.”
“Whether you meant it or not makes little difference to me, you heretic. You deserve to be severely punished.” He grabbed her arm and dragged her into a nearby room. The door was shut behind them and all that could be heard were Tanpa’s sobs and screams.
Tenpou and Kenren arrived in Konzen’s office. “Has Tanpa stopped by?” Tenpou asked.
Konzen shook his head. “Not today.”
His smile faded and his eyes were filled with worry. “She hasn’t?”
“I just said that.”
Kenren put a hand on Tenpou’s shoulder. “I’m sure she’s alright. Maybe she’s using the restroom.”
“For two hours? I doubt it,” Tenpou replied. “We should go look for her, she doesn’t have what it takes to defend herself. She hates to fight.”
“Then let’s go find her!” Goku exclaimed.
Just as they were about to leave, the door opened. Tanpa entered the office. Her clothes were torn and she was bruised and bleeding. “Big brother…” she whispered before she collapsed.
“Oh my god!” Tenpou caught her before she hit the ground. “Tanpa! Tanpa, who did this to you?! Tanpa!” He didn’t get a response. “She’s unconscious.”
“What happened to her?!” Goku exclaimed.
“She’s been attacked.”
“Who’d do such a thing?!”
Konzen narrowed his eyes. “Nearly everyone in the Heavens.” He got to his feet. “Let’s get her to the nurse.”
The nurse shook her head as she treated Tanpa’s wounds, just as she did years ago. “Tenpou, I’m afraid that your sister took more than a beating this time.”
“What do you mean?”
“Tanpa had been raped.”
He paled. “This can’t be. This just can’t be. Who would do such a thing?”
“That I can’t answer. Tanpa will have to tell us when she comes to.” She bit her lip. “If she comes to.”
“What do you mean ‘if she comes to’?”
“After this brutal attack, she might not want to wake up.”
“Oh god…”
“I’m going to have to ask you to leave now so I may treat her other injuries.”
“Yes. Of course. Thank you.” He left the room and walked over to his friends.
“What did the nurse say?” Kenren asked gently.
“Tanpa’s injuries are really serious. On top of that, she’d been raped. Because of what she had to go through, she might not want to live. I know there’s no death here, but Tanpa may be…”
“NO!!! STOP IT!!!” Tanpa could be heard screaming.
The nurse was at the door. “Tenpou! Come and try to calm your sister down! She just regained consciousness, but she’s in a state of delirium!”
Tenpou rushed to his sister’s side. “Tanpa! Tanpa, calm down. It’s Tenpou, you’re alright now. The one who hurt you isn’t here.”
“NO!!!”
“Tanpa, please snap out of it.”
“YOU’RE HURTING ME!!! I’M SORRY, LI TOUTEN!!!”
Tenpou and the nurse exchanged looks. “Li Touten? I should’ve known, only he would do something like this,” the nurse whispered.
It took ten minutes for Tanpa to come to her senses. She saw Tenpou sitting by her side. “Big brother, I’m sorry.”
“You have nothing to apologise for, none of what happened was your fault,” Tenpou whispered gently.
“But, if I was paying attention to my surroundings, I wouldn’t have bumped into him. I wouldn’t have bumped into Li Touten.”
“And that’s why he attacked you so brutally? That bastard went way too far this time. We’d better report this to the Jade Emperor, what Li Touten did to you is not acceptable anywhere. The nurse left a wheelchair so we can get you to the royal hall sooner.” He helped his sister out of the bed and into the chair. “Let’s go.” He wheeled her out of the room.
“Halt! You may not go further!” one of the guards posted at the entrance stated.
“We request that we may report something of a serious matter to the Jade Emperor,” Tenpou replied. “My sister had been brutally attacked.”
The guards exchanged looks. They didn’t trust the injured woman, yet were inclined to believe the field marshal. “Very well. Follow me.”
Tenpou and Tanpa followed the guard into the hall.
“Sire, Field Marshal Tenpou and his sister wish to report a serious matter.”
“Hmm…very well. The two of you may step forward,” the Jade Emperor stated.
Tenpou wheeled Tanpa closer to the Jade Emperor then knelt beside her. “Sire, please pardon Tanpa for not kneeling. As you can see, she is unable to.”
“I can see that clearly. Now, you wished to report something?”
“Yes. Earlier this afternoon, I was brutally attacked by Li Touten,” Tanpa stated.
“Li Touten attacked you?”
“May I explain the whole story?”
“Very well then.”
“I was on my way to visit Konzen Douji and his charge. As I wasn’t focusing on my surroundings, it was possible that I’d accidentally bump into somebody. When I bumped into Li Touten, I tried apologising, but to him, it wasn’t enough. He dragged me into a nearby room and started to beat me. He then raped me when I was too weak to fight back.”
The Jade Emperor narrowed his eyes. “Guard, bring Li Touten in here right now!”
“Yes, sire.” The guard ran off in search of Li Touten.
“Sire, you wished to see me?” Li Touten asked as he knelt before the emperor. He didn’t fail to notice Tanpa cringe in fear and Tenpou glaring at him.
“Tanpa here claims you attacked her brutally. Is it true that you beat her and raped her?”
“No, sire, it is not true at all. This heretic is just trying to gain attention. And I have something to report about her. She has been plotting to overthrow you and take over the role of emperor.”
Jade Emperor got to his feet. “Tanpa, is what he’s saying true?!”
“No, sire,” Tanpa replied.
“Sire, who will you believe? This no good heretic or a faithful servant?” Li Touten asked calmly.
“How dare you call my sister a heretic?! And how dare you deny what you did to her?!” Tenpou yelled at Li Touten.
“Tenpou! Step down!” Jade Emperor ordered.
“Forgiveness, sire, but I can’t just stand by and do nothing while my sister is being accused of lying and treason.”
“Do you have any proof of Tanpa planning to overthrow me?” he asked Li Touten.
“Only her golden eyes. She is a scheming heretic,” Li Touten replied calmly.
Tanpa was in a dungeon cell. She started crying for the first time in her life, but her tears weren’t for herself, but for her brother. He’d tried his hardest to defend her, but in the end Li Touten’s word was believed over hers. She was to be banished the next day and her brother would be forced to watch.
Tenpou slammed his fist into a wall. “Damn it damn it damn it!”
Goku was a little frightened, he’d never seen Tenpou so angry. He looked up at Konzen and Kenren. “Shouldn’t we stop Tenpi before he hurts himself? Konzen? Ken?”
“Let him get his anger out,” was Konzen’s response.
“Damn that Li Touten! How dare he say such things?! He hurt Tanpa and she’s the one getting banished!” Tenpou shouted as he slammed the wall one more time.
Kenren stepped over to Tenpou and rested his hand on the field marshal’s shoulder. It was all he could think of doing to comfort him.
“It’s disgusting how you’re being forced to witness your own sister’s banishment,” Konzen remarked.
“And it’s because I defended her,” Tenpou added. “Li Touten is just so…”
Goku looked down. “So, big sis Tanpa is leaving us tomorrow?” he whispered. He especially bonded with her because even though they both had golden eyes, they never let it get them down.
“Yes, Goku, she is.”
Tears were in his golden eyes. He ran over to Tenpou and wrapped his arms around him. “I’m sorry, Tenpi.”
The time had arrived. Tenpou had ‘front-row seats’ for this moment. “Tanpa…I’m here for you.”
Tanpa was pulled onto the podium. She caught sight of her brother. “I’m so sorry, big brother,” she whispered.
“Tanpa here has been accused of treason. By order of the Jade Emperor, she is to be banished to the lower world where she will die and be reincarnated,” one of the guards stated. “Tanpa, any last words before you leave?”
“Kenren, Konzen, Goku, it’s been a pleasure knowing all of you. Tenpou, big brother, this isn’t our final farewell, we’ll see each other again someday.”
Tenpou felt tears in his eyes. “Tanpa…” He watched on as Tanpa’s unjust punishment was served.
Konzen stopped signing documents and closed his eyes. ‘Goodbye, Tanpa.’
Goku had been crying since Tenpou had been summoned. “Bye, big sis Tanpa.”
Kenren sat in the cherry blossom tree. ‘Bye, Tanpa.’
“TANPA!!!” Tenpou shouted.
The four of them met in Konzen’s office. Goku had finished crying, but nearly burst back into tears when he saw Tenpou. Once again, all Kenren could do to try to comfort his friend was rest a hand on his shoulder. Konzen appeared stoic, but even he was feeling upset about what happened to Tanpa.
“Tanpa said it was a pleasure knowing all of you, and this isn’t her final farewell,” Tenpou whispered as he removed his glasses.
Tanpa was right, as five hundred years later, Hakkai (Tenpou), Gojyo (Kenren), Sanzo (Konzen), Goku and Tamamura (Tanpa) were all reunited and were fighting to halt the revival of the bull demon king Gyumaoh. Hakkai and Tamamura couldn’t really understand why, but they had a really strong brother-sister bond. Maybe the dreams they’d had since they met could explain it all to them.
The End
I do not own Saiyuki or any of the characters, they belong to Ms. Kazuya Minekura. I do own Burutsu Tamamura and Tanpa.
Thank you ever so much for reading this fic. I tried to keep folks in character as best as I could, especially that bastard Li Touten…argh, that guy makes me fume every time he smiles so calmly while his only son is being forced to kill and subdue demons in the lower world. I so cheered for Tenpou when he gave that guy a smack in the chops!
Anyway, thanks again. Please review, please don’t flame and please don’t sue as I already mentioned I don’t own the original Saiyuki characters.
